The Number of the Beast | Quick Bicep Pump

You ever wear a shirt that is short sleeves and somewhat riding high on the biceps? Yeah, you know the one.

This is for that time when you land in another city and don't plan to get a full workout before going out (or don't want to). Maybe you already worked out today. Maybe you are just about to go out and you just want that extra pop, don't really want to break a sweat, and definitely don't want to screw up the progression of your normal routine.

The answer: The Number of the Beast.

You only need 2 sets. (3 if you have the extra 2 minutes and want a little extra...but 3 is the max).

You simply do a drop set of dumbbell curls (from Heavy to Light).

Here is my example (this is one set of 6-6-6):
- 6 reps of curls with 50lb dumbbells
- 6 reps of curls with 40lb dumbbells
- 6 reps of curls with 30lb dumbbells

You should feel swollen after one set. Two sets and you are good to go for the night. Three sets and your arms should feel like they are about to explode (only go 3 sets if you are basically displacing your bicep workout).

Key benefits:
- Keeps your biceps pumped for the evening
- Won't disrupt your normal routine
- Can be done in 5min
- You don't need to get in full workout gear. If at a hotel, just walk down there in whatever you are wearing and pump it up.
- If in a hurry and already showered, with 2 sets you won't likely break a real sweat but you will get benefit of "The Pump"

If you're already an avid lifter on the regular then this will give your already big sized arms that pump. Triceps however are much larger and will give you that extra bulk.

For newbies this is a gimmick.

Dropsets are okay, but personally, I'd concentrate on hitting about 20+ reps per set of a lighter weight (25 lbs).

+1 for the triceps comment, biceps are 1/3 of the arm, triceps are the meat and potatoes of a well built arm.

I don't know if you read my post properly. It didn't say "check out this new arm routine" or "this is the best bicep workout"[/i].

Rather, I specifically stated these:
- Won't disrupt your normal routine (Read: this isn't meant to be a routine - it is a just for getting you a quick pump)
- Can be done in 5min (again, not meant to displace a routine)
- If in a hurry and already showered, with 2 sets you won't likely break a real sweat but you will get benefit of "The Pump" (Read: not meant to be a workout)

If you want to add in triceps, fine, but that means you have the time. If you keep adding stuff, then we should just say "go do a full arm routine before going out for the night". No arguments here if that is what you want to do (I like it). Hell, if we are going there, then just get your normal full routine before going out (which feels great, and I like this to, just not the point).

@TheFinalEpic: Dropsets are okay, but personally, I'd concentrate on hitting about 20+ reps per set of a lighter weight (25 lbs).
- Fine. But, for the quick fix you do realize that this drop set is a total of 18 reps, which allows you to get all of heavy/medium/light in one sweep. At least try a taste test: Try doing just two sets of your 20 reps at 25lbs one evening. Then, on a different night, try just two sets of what I outlined above. I'd be curious to find out if held to only getting to do two quick sets that you end up with the same pump for the evening.

This is just my experience. (by way of background I'm a veteran lifter)

I read your post, and personally for me, just stating that a lighter weight for higher reps seems to be the balloon master for me. All bodies work differently, and respond to certain work better than others.

I also am a veteran, and if you watch videos of the guys in the pump-up rooms before a contest, they are doing just as I said.

Impressive you can curl 50 lbs with strict form as well, 95% of guys would be swinging that shit to no avail.

Yes, numbers are for example (I lifted competitively for several years). Hoping it is obvious these are meant to be scaled to the individual.

As to this being a gimmick for a complete newbie...well, perhaps the best solution is to buy a different shirt! [Image: smile.gif]

I alternate curls with hammer curls, three sets

"I alternate curls with hammer curls, three sets"

I actually like this. You can easily drop in a set of hammer curls with the number of the beast. I've done it. Especially if going for 3 sets.

@TheFinalEpic - Yo! You stated this "I also am a veteran" but in another post you say that you are a business student (which I'd guess puts you at early 20s). What am I missing here?

I've been pumping iron for well over 20yrs, and competed for 5yrs...that is why I mentioned the veteran comment. (also to get some slack from the 26yr old monsters that are still in the stage of life where the answer to everything is to go heavier on squats and deads...I was there!) [Image: smile.gif]

C'mon brotha...if you are as young as your posts indicate...save the veteran title for a few years...

Haha, fair enough sir! I've been at it for about 4 years now, I'll save it til I'm at a decade. I respect guys who've been in the game and have seen it all, I was just stating my opinions from what I personally have experienced and how my body works. (I'm only 21, so I have much to learn from the big boys.)
