Benefits Of Non-Intermittent Fasting

Just came off a week-long fast in order to cleanse/detox and I thought I'd share the experience. The first 4 days were fresh juice, followed by 3 days of just water.

Results

-Increased mental clarity. Eating food clouds the mine. For the first time in a good while, I was able to take a step back and examine where my life was heading and what changes I wanted to make. I felt an incredible peace of mind too.

-Internal cleansing. No one eats a perfect diet and with with daily exposure to atmospheric pollution, everyone is carrying their fair share of toxins. The more you have, the more miserable the detox process is. I had solid bowel movements on day 6 and I'm a lean fit guy. Shit was in my stomach that shouldn't be there...

-Clearer skin, brighter eyes. I naturally have bright green eyes but when you're fasting this is amplified x2. Funny story. I was in starbucks...when I realized this black barista chick was just staring at me. I looked at her and she didn't look away, so I just asked her what's up. She smiled and said, "you look like you got emeralds in your eyes" haha.

Negatives

-Low energy, I wouldn't recommend working out while fasting. By day 7, I was feeling kind of light-headed.

-Weight loss. I lost about 10 pounds. This could be a positive for some of you but I have a Lamborghini metabolism and barely any fat to begin with, so a sizeable portion of it was muscle.

-Sex drive crashes. When you're not eating, test levels plummets so no dates, you won't be able to get it up even if she begs you.


All in all, the benefits outweighed any of the downsides. With all the alcohol, weed and process food I had consumed on the regular, I needed an elongated detox. Having been off the fast for about a week now, I feel markedly better. I plan to do this on an annual basis from here on out...

I bought a juicer and made about 3-4 tall glasses a day. I used really nutrient dense fruits and vegetables: kale. spinach, beets, apples,etc.

The science behind this is, you mobilize/burn a lot of fat cells while your fasting. All the toxins stored in said fat cells are then released into your bloodstream and can actually wreck a lot of havoc. Fresh juice, particularly green veggie juice, is very efficient at flushing this stuff out of your system quickly.

Not to mention, it's a nice and easy way to transition into a water fast, which I believe has additional benefits.

That's cool and all, but if you wanted to do a thread about fasting, why didn't you just call it, I don't know....fasting? I'm pretty sure most people are familiar enough with that term to know what you are talking about without getting to in a roundabout way.

Saying "non-intermittent fasting" makes me think you are going to give benefits about not intermittent fasting, i.e. eating whenever the f*ck you feel like.

Also, why did you skip the juice for last three days? I'm not an expert, but forgoing any sort of vitamins, nutrients, or minerals for three days doesn't sound very healthy, no wonder you had no energy or sex drive.

*Sigh*

Within fitness/health circles, the only variant of fasting that gets any press these days is intermittent fasting(<24 hours). While I think that is a good way to manage your diet long term, it doesn't offer the systemic cleaning benefit of a longer fast. I was trying to emphasize this in the title, I'm sorry it confused you.

The premise behind fasting is your giving your body a break. If you live the bodybuilder life like I do, you're constantly cramming a lot of food down. Digesting food takes a lot of energy, energy that can go to healing the body. I had some minor skin problems which the fast took care of. It's an ancient proven way of recallibrating the human body.

Juice fasting is a very good start but you're still consuming calories. Water fasting is imo the only true form of fasting and the ultimate cleanse. I just eased into it gradually with the juice...

I know what the premise behind fasting or 'juicing' is.

I don't get the logic of a pure water fast. So are calories in any form toxins? You said earlier that the juicing was important in flushing toxins, are they all of a sudden bad now?

I understand the premise of not having a big meal, thus the juicing fad that's been going on now, but how does your body heal itself, function without proper (any) nutrients?

Juicing isn't really fasting, it's well...juicing. I incorporated it into the fast for the aforementioned reasons and to make the transition easier.

Going from a 4,000 calorie a day diet to straight water fasting would be brutal. With juicing, I was taking in about 1000-1500 calories a day.After 4 days of juicing, your stomach has shrunk and your metabolism has pretty much stalled. Water fasting simply offers a deeper cleanse. ALL the energy dedicated toward metabolism is redirected towards clearing toxins out of the body. It's the body's natural mechanism for healing. If you notice, when your sick you don't have much of an appetite. There are clinical studies showing the merits of water fasting, crazy stuff like people with cancer going into remission. I'd be happy to provide you with the links.

Anyone who hasn't done a fast, really doesn't know how beneficial it can be.

It is really difficult, especially for the first 3 days. After that it gets easier. I did a 10 day fast before and it was honestly such a great experience and makes you FEEL so much better.

Benefits Of Non-Intermittent Fasting

When you're fasting, (Especially the water fast) watch out for constipation. In serious cases, a Dr. will have to stick his finger in your butt and scoop the poop out.

One thing I am unsure of about fasting though regards supplements. Is it still ok to take a multivit, vit d3, fish oil and magnesium tabs while on a fast or does it defeat the purpose?

I did a salt water flush the last three days. It was brutal but it took care of business.

I didn't bother with them but I don't think it would make a big difference if you did.
