NewRetroWave is a bunch of modern bands who are trying to capture the sounds of the mid 80s. It is a lovely mixture of nostalgia and electronic eighties music. Think GTA Vice City.
If it's a new music genre, why is it replicating sounds of the 80s? How can a genre be new if it's carbon copying an old sound?
UK Garage, acid jazz, eurotrance and nu metal is dead. If I revive that, can I call it NewRetroWave2?
These hipsters making something that already exists, branding it as something new, and trying to make media hype off it. It's like when they revive old
tv shows and
toys. They did it with Mr Men, the Spider Man movie reboot, Andy Pandy, Bill & Ben, and more. It's a quick money grab.
Mark Ronson made a "NewRetroWave" album called Record Collection about reviving 80s sounds and sounds he used to hear as a child. He said so an interview. If you listen to his album, it sounds very retro and dated. I recommend you listen to it.
Look at the cover. It's made up of different vinyl singles and looks retro. In fact it's made up of the same amount of vinyl covers as there are songs on the album, one for each song. If you look it up on Wikipedia, it doesn't say "NewRetroWave". Instead it says inaccurate genres such as "synth pop" and "indie pop" when it's anything but that as they don't know how to classify it. Wikipedia has lots of inaccurate information.
