So I was speaking to a friend that lives in Britain and according to him, Pubs (Known as Public Houses) are the better places to meet women in the UK.

According to his reasoning pubs are more calmer places to meet women in the UK compared to full blown night clubs or bars.

He says more than 75% of England’s adult population go to pubs, and more than 30% are “regulars”, visiting the pub more than once a week.

So what does that tell you?

Well for a start, the bar in a pub is among the few places in Britain where it is acceptable, appropriate and normal to strike up a conversation with a complete stranger. Even in London, which tells you something.

He says its more people oriented and a calmer atmosphere for non-english speaking foreigners, especially if you want to make friends and build networks quickly.

For all the Brits out there what is your opinion on this?

Is it true its easier to meet ladies in pubs? If so what do you need to do to pull?

Pubs are pretty good in London. When I was living in Cambridge, there were a bunch of pubs as well as clubs that you could hit up which made it easy to start conversations. The locals that were in both areas were really into striking up conversations with tourists. It seemed like they thought American culture was interesting (and probably stupid) but had a genuine curiosity. Everyone was a lot more friendly than they are in America (live in DC), and much more open. Had a very pleasant experience while I was there.

Pubs used to be all male spaces, were you can watch football, be rowdy, have men conversations. Now they have become centres for "yummy mummies" especially in the gentrified parts of towns. "Family based" and at nighttimes, you get a mixed crowd, with pubs becoming like bars, playing music. By all means student pubs and some of the city centre pubs you can pull in. In Central London, most defiantly.

When I was in London, Camden and around, I was very pleasantly surprised at the pubs. Very friendly and open enviroment and basically got opened by two girls alone in one pub.

Pubs in Central and Inner London are very different, they have been gentrified and yuppiefied (if thats a word). You will find some dodgy boozers around, but the main ones are now pre drink venues.

Traditional pubs are a dying breed, the crowd they cater to is older than the bar-club scene people. You can find young women at these places but for the most part they do not stay for long without friends.

Women love the gastro pub scene, think Weatherspoons and any pre-club action starts there. Good places to mingle but they start playing music above 90 decibels after 7pm.

So basically if your looking for a classy brit from maybe the middle up, then a pub is probably a good place right?

I have seen british pubs on TV based on TV shows I have seen (East Enders etc) and it seemed more like a cockney accent, working class slut type. Are there like different classes of pubs?

The typo seems apt considering how some of the British women I've observed behave when they're drunk.

On another note, is London really that madly expensive that a small studio in Shoreditch/Silicon Roundabout will cost £1000?

I've been thinking about checking out that area for business and then go partying in London, but if that's the cost then I doubt it.

There are dive pubs like there are dive clubs, choose your setting wisely. Eastenders has to be the worst British programme on TV

London is its own entity. For example a 25k salary outside the Greater London area for a job in say Leeds would net close to 30k in London due to excessive living costs.

A lot of middle class people buy second homes on the commuter lines to London because it is incredibly expensive to travel by train & car for long distances and it is very time consuming.

This pushes the prices up in satellite areas around London.

Pretty sure pubs in the UK are known as pubs

I wouldn't say it's any more or less acceptable to strike up a conversation in a pub than any other night time option. Unless you want to talk to the guy sitting by himself at the bar drinking.

In all seriousness though, it all depends on what you mean by "pub".
One pub can be an entirely different entity to another.

There are some 'old-man' pubs where you hardly see any women, let alone any young people.

There are other pubs where it's a 'local' for the people living nearby and you can spend all night there and not see a single girl walk in who you'd want to ever hook up with.

There are places like Weatherspoons which is a chain which offers decent food options (traditional British pub food style) which are popular but a lot people are sitting down at tables and it's generally not good for striking up conversations.

And then there are pubs where it's easier to meet girls but the more girls there are in a pub, the less of a pub it is in the traditional sense of the word. There'll be loud music, and even a dance floor.

It's all about location too:
Take a place like Oxford. Loads of great pub options with a young crowd.
Or a place like Edinburgh's Grassmarket. Again lots of pub options with plenty of young people/girls.
London is another good option for pubs in terms of meeting girls as long as you pick the right place (there are literally thousands of pubs in London, some of which are very nice but not necessarily good for meeting girls). There is a big popular 'pub' in central London called O'neills Irish pub which is open late. Loud music, dance floor, huge capacity, loads of people. Although one could argue it's not really a pub at this point.

Also, know that in the UK most pubs close at 11pm by law. i.e. very early. Even in London. People are often surprised to learn this.

I'd say this - if you're into pubs and generally enjoy being there, having a beer, and it suits your style of game then it could definitely be a great option for you. But I wouldn't say it's any worse or better than a bar or club, just different. If you're looking to meet a group of stunners in short dresses, then a pub is almost certainly the wrong place to be.

London property for buying and renting is insane at the moment. Shoreditch is pretty desirable now, £1000 sounds cheap for that area...

I live in Shoreditch. Paying £680 incl bills for 1 bedroom in 3 bedroom ex council house estate flat with 5 people. £1000 maybe would get you a room in a 2 bed flat share.

Pubs are shit for meeting girls. Unless you like trash

The only pubs that will be good for meeting women are the chain pubs i.e. Wetherspoons that are near bars/clubs. This is because people will pre-drink in these before they hit the bars/clubs as they are cheaper.

However I don't know if they are good for meeting girls because like people have said before they blast out music at night making it very hard to have conversations. So if you're style of game involves a lot of conversation there's probably no point.
