The cupcake fad is dying

Cupcakes are not doing so well, at least for one of the bigger cupcake chains. It looks like there is a push to get you into crossaint-donuts, dubbed cronuts or crumbnuts.

Cupcakes not broad enough to base a business on--and you're a cupcake chain? That's like Krispy Kreme admitting that hey, it's been a good run, but donuts aren't really a sustainable business market.

What's wrong with becoming an actual bakery these days? You can make other shit with cake flour and sugar.

Reminds me of the "Spatula City" commercial from UHF.

My guess is that Instagram got to saturated with cupcake pics, so women cut down, then started on cronuts. In Canada the big trend was Red Velvet cake and cupcakes. I guess it looked cool with the Instagram filters so women started filling their mouths with that.

Now that it's getting warm out it will be easier to see what girls are snacking on while out on the streets.

But lately though I have gotten women to admit they salves to eating emotionally. They either are candid or shameless, not too sure. After their truth telling I troll them by telling them the crazy ladies an the Mental Ward I used to work at did the same thing.

Meh. I'll always love Georgetown cupcakes when I make it to DC. As a whole though, cupcakes were popping up all over the place for grossly inflated prices.

Girls love crumbs and baked by melissa. One girl at a bar was bitching at how she bought 2 dozen cupcakes and her roommate had a bunch of hipsters crash at her place, eat all the cupcakes and turn her alarm off. [Image: lol.gif]

I'll take Rocco's on Bleecker: good custard and espresso among other noncupcake things.

was offered a cupcake at a friend's house on Sunday - I declined. Given what's been going on and how 'foodies' (i.e. fatties) love 'em I don't plan on ever eating another cupcake again. Stupid fad for sure. Unfortunately 'Cronuts' might be just as bad, if not worse, for you.

On a separate note, it was depressing as hell to start seeing Dunkin Donuts and Cinnabon's popping up in Moscow....there's also now a "Krispy Kreme' flagship store right around from the Kremlin...

Amy's Bread is carb heaven in NYC. It's a bit hipster and faddish, but there's nothing I've run into that beats it.

The worst aspect of globalization is the food. Because foreigners still look to foreign dump food like Dunkin Donuts as high class. I read somewhere that for India's middle class Mcdolands has almost become a staple for them now as they view it as a classy thing to eat.

Don't worry, it will be replaced with something even worse.

Fuck "Bear Claws", fuck "Sticky Buns", Fuck "CrumbNuts". How can people eat this stuff. I even look at this stuff in a "Coffee" Shop and it makes me nauseous - reminds me of lard, fat, and lethargy.

How can one eat a whole bear claw or sticky bun, and if you try it once, who the fuck goes back everyday to get more every day.

Give me a nice small fluffy cupcake, with soft "cake" and buttery-milky cream on top. Give me one of those once a week with my coffee [black, no sugar] and I'll be in heaven.

Hmmm. Possibly because you're a native and not a tourist, so you ignored it...but it was common to find long lines in Greenwich Village at this place:

Magnolia Bakery

Quote:Quote:

The bakery is credited with starting a 1990s "cupcake craze"...

The exterior of the bakery downtown, as well as its cupcakes, were featured in Lazy Sunday, a Saturday Night Live digital short broadcast in December 2005. The bakery was also featured on Sex and the City, in the film Prime, in which one of the characters throws Magnolia pies at his ex-girlfriends, and in The Devil Wears Prada, in which the character Andy says at one point that she needs to get to the bakery to pick something up for her boyfriend. The sitcom Spin City also has Charlie Sheen's character bringing Magnolia Cupcakes to Heather Locklear's character.

I can second the Magnolia thing. When I work at the Javits Convention Center, show managers are always ordering from there - exhibitors too.

Saw the thread title, had a fist in the air moment "finally a small victory against obesity!"

Then read the thread and realised that cupcakes are simply being replaced by worse junk foods.

McDs is also very popular among Moscow hotties. One of my girls here said the other day "girls are starting to get bigger here" when I was complaining about american women. I don't think the cupcake trend will make it here before they're obsolete though.

Please don't tell me this I'd rather have blissful ignorance that this isn't happening.
