Match.com

I joined Match.com 3 weeks ago in the hopes of connecting with someone. I'm 61 and 5'8". I'm looking for a 7 1/2 to 10/10 between the age of 30 to 40 for a sexual relationship and maybe more. The women are mostly looking for men over 5'10" and 40 years old tops. I've contacted about 70 8/9/10s with not one response. Because of my work and life routine, I just don't come into contact with babes. So my only possibilities right now are Facebook and Match.com. In the 5 years I've been on Facebook I only met 2 women I've been interested in and my interest has not been reciprocated. Any suggestions?

Assuming you are not a troll and really are 61yo, my advice is move to the Philippines or something try using the same criteria there. No money to do that? You're out of luck.

I thought it was all about game. Should I try in something in person? Again, I thought it was all in the attitude.

Hey TPD, I'm all for helping men that seek out the help that they want. The advice that I would give you, as a fellow poster like you that's relatively new, is not to take away value right off the bat in multiple post.

It's not match.com, but there's an OK cupid thread that's about 50+ pages long that can give you tips on how to proceed with your situation. If you keep on your current pace of wanting us to give you info right away without you proving that you've put some effort into it...well... you ain't gonna get the advice man!!

I appreciate that. But to be fair to me, doesn't 5 years on Facebook and some time on Match.com with 60 contacts count for a little effort?

I am not a game denier, but just as an illustration, look at this couple.

It is my belief that no amount of game would help this dude score with a girl like that in the US. No fucking chance. In Asia, these guys can still get much younger women either by using some game and offering financial support or with no game by going the p4p route.

Ouch. Now way. Let's just say I take very good care of myself. I run 5 to 7 miles a day, lift weights and maintain a tan during the summer months. I can easily pass for 10 to 15 years younger. I was expecting someone to say lie about your age by a few notches like others in this forum have been advised to do on dating sites.

Assuming you're not a troll, here is my take:

Match.com is filled with the kind of older women who don't realize their "sell by" date has long since expired and think they can get guys like they did at 25 (see Law Dogger's excellent post "Stacy's Sculpture" for an allegory about this). Since you have to pay, that's their signal that they'll be getting the "best and brightest." And richest. And tallest. Perhaps even a romance novel cover model! Even if you do meet one, she'll likely be a gold-digger or have an aberrant personality, so don't bother.

You'll do better on OKCupid, a non-paying site, where the older women don't usually behave as if they're the pick of the litter anymore. If you're lucky, you can find a nice woman who was married her whole life, didn't ride the carousel (look it up), and has charm, looks, and some modesty (hence her being on a non-paying site).

If you want to go bit more "bottom of the barrel," try Plenty of Fish. Just be prepared to use eyewash afterwards. Haha.

All that said, you need some game. If height is all that mattered, no one below 5'10" would be getting married or getting laid and I see shorter guys with women all the time -- and sometimes they're short and fat, or short and "ethnic" (I'm throwing that in because a lot of Asian guys have hang ups, but where I live they seem to be doing quite well).

So you need to work on your approach and personality when you write. A good example would be to start with your posts like this, which come off as rather cold and calculating for a newbie. Try adding in a dash of humor and warmth and see what happens.

Thanks. Much appreciated. And thanks for taking me at my word.

Based on some of your posts it sounds like you've got some deeper issues than just girls. Get your head on straight. You have challenges. Everybody has them. No amount of money or fame or youth or looks will fix that for you.

Also, it also sounds like you're looking for the "magic phrase" that will work. It doesn't exist. Like in your Liam Neeson / Olivia Wilde post, Neeson gets that reaction because of who he is - not that he's famous, but that he's a fucking alpha dog. You could have a recording of what went down, repeat it word for word, and still get blown out epically. There is no magic phrase. I know the feeling, man. I wish that there was a magic word. It'd be worth $10,000 to me to know it. But IT DOESN'T EXIST. Don't bother learning lines. It's one thing to have a couple snappy openers in your back pocket, but don't fucking memorize scripts. Nobody wants to date a robot who can't react when real life doesn't go exactly as planned.

There's tons of resources out there you can get, but nothing that anybody says online can beat the actual experience of getting out and meeting real women. Not online, in person. So what if she answers your email? If you aren't sitting next to her, how are you going to get in bed with her? I don't care if you live in a place that makes that difficult. You do, or do not, and you make time for what's actually important to you. Our priorities always organize themselves, whether we like it or not.

As far as your "out of your league" post, I'm going to add a caveat: really attractive girls have been getting hit on daily since they were teenagers. Don't let that stop you if you get the chance (even a blind dog catches a squirrel sometimes), but if you're waiting around for a drop dead gorgeous woman to drop your perfectly crafted and thoroughly rehearsed lines on, you're just waiting a long time to fail quickly. Fail RIGHT NOW with a woman you don't care about, and LEARN from that. Learn to reflect on what happened. Maybe it's your fault. Was your line bad? Was your body language off? Vocal tone weird? Maybe you're just boring and talking about shit that doesn't push her buttons. Or maybe it's her fault: she's a lesbian or a bitch or she's only attracted to tatted-up skate punks or just having a bad day. Learn to tell statistical variance from the actual trend. A statistical sample size of 10 means nothing, and online, you divide everything by 10 because it's that fucking easy for every schlub to spam every chick online, so at this point you can say you've approached 7 girls. Approach 50 girls in person or 500 online and THEN come back here and tell us all how you can't meet girls, and maybe someone can help you.

Don't tell me there are no women out there. You need to be more resourceful.

That deal must be expired; I can't find it anymore.

Anyone else try this?

Nope, but I sure wished I could. There's a 25% off code out there. Google it.
