Essentially, the situation boils down to some young adults who seem to think the best way to seize power is to do so in a ham-fisted and clumsy way: release a document detailing an incredibly long list of demands -- with no care as to fiduciary concerns -- and then invade the President's office and insult him to his face.

While the above picture addresses white people, his observation on issues in America is spot-on. These fools whining about privilege on an Ivy League campus? YOU are privileged, numb nuts.

As mentioned before, this proposal is not about interpersonal interactions, but about restoring justice in an institution beset with a history of discriminatory and oppressive practices.

A bunch of grown children expect the administration to take them seriously after they threaten them with physical violence, then make a ridiculous claim that there used to exist a non-oppressive Eden where the gender binary didn't exist.

I can't take this sort of bullspit seriously. Most of their demands center around wanting more race studies classes taught by racial minorities. I find it highly interesting that they claim to be interest in seizing power, then demanding degrees that don't lead to power, just a fucked-up, rageful view of the world. Further, they don't seem to get that all these financial demands are not going to be made at the administration's fiscal expense - just passed onto the students with increased tuition costs.

You want power? Pick up "The Prince" by Niccolo Machiavelli, the "48 Laws of Power" by Robert Greene and books on human psychology. Learn how to adduce the motivations and psychology of those around you and how to manipulate them to your advantage. Hit the gym and learn to look good - looks matter. Educate yourself on economics, philosophy and other areas of study - most people are fucking retards and you can blow most people of out the water in arguments by having a general baseline of knowledge.

Network like crazy - don't be that idiot who hides behind ideology and rejects to interact with people that don't share their beliefs as everybody can potentially bring you value. Study the lives of powerful men like Bill Clinton and Steve Jobs - see what you can learn from their lives. Read up on master manipulators like Talleyrand and Rasputin - men who had access to far less resources to educate them than you.

In sum, don't be like these vapid, obsessed idiots who think power and its manipulation revolves around race, gender, blah blah blah. I'm not saying racism doesn't exist or whatever, but simply that those in power are predominately concerned with maintaining that power. If what slakes your thirst for power is more bisexual Asian studies professors, you are revealing yourself to be a rube and a fool. I would imagine they view these people's demands much like an infant forcibly demands a binky. They stay "rich, white and male" and you get a course, "Dicursive Performances Of Gender In Marginalized Lesbian Communities In Fargo, North Dakota."

I recall a passage from "The Culture Of Narcissism" in which Robert Lasch goes into great detail how standards for knowledge and intellectual discourse have collapsed on Ivy League campuses. This chatter reflects that. How many of these people -- when bitching about unconstitutionality of X, Y or Z -- can even name half their Constitutional rights secured by the Bill of Rights? We don't need more amateur professors of jurisprudence like Lady Gaga called bans on gay marriage "unconstitutional."

In the same chapter, Lasch carefully steps around issues of race and education. I won't get into it fully here as it likely merits its own thread, but consider that if you think blacks are equal to whites intellectually, why do you need black studies classes, much less majors/minors? Shouldn't they be studying science, economics, philosophy and other areas of interest? Race/Sex/Queer studies are all bullshit precisely because they don't create well-rounded individuals well-versed in the traditional liberal education, they create hard-line, radical ideologues. People that are not employable, not just for their views, but because they have neglected to develop their mind. You do that through consumption of knowledge and rigorous debate with others.

All that being said, I suppose this a self-selecting group of people who admit they are not long for anything remotely approaching true intellectualism or engagement in serious professions. What is most unnerving isn't their desire to for more classes that reinforce their paranoia, but that they want every student to not just hear their views, but have them presented as sacrosanct dogma. That is most unsettling.

The acceptance rate for Black and Latin@ students has stayed the same for the last 5 years even though the applicants have doubled and tripled, respectively.

Do the math. If the acceptance rate has stayed the same while applications have doubled and tripled, then you have 2x and 3x more black and Latin@ (lol) students accepted, respectively.

I'm sure what they actually meant is that black and latino students comprise the same percentage of admitted students as they did five years prior, but as written, those sound like the words of someone who has no business being at Dartmouth, or dictating who else the school should admit.
