Prep for Spring / Summer - NYC edition

It has been a brutal winter for those in the Northeast. This past weekend got into the 50s in NYC, which means spring/summer are just around the corner. Time to get ready for the best summer of your life!

Although I'm writing from a NYCers point of view, this thread can easily apply to those who have a warmer season coming up. That said...

Spring and Summer(along with early Fall) is the best time to be a single man in NYC. The girls are out wearing skirts, and are getting a tan in their bikinis in central park. Outdoor bars and rooftops are open, along with pool parties at the higher end hotel venues. Day game becomes a more viable option at farmers markets, parks, the Highline, in outdoor shopping venues like SoHo, and the numerous running trails throughout the city.

Sex is in the air and notch counts significantly go up during this time of the year. Lots of tourists, including foreigners will be in town. Girls want and need to get fucked.

To take advantage, I recommend the following:

1) Cut the body fat and get in shape if you aren't already, since you'll be dressing more casual and showing more skin in the heat. There is no more time to bulk up for a warm April. You can cut 1-2 lbs of fat(more is possible but this is what I've seen) a week depending on your current BF%. This means adhering to a good diet to cut, hard weightlifting 3x a week, perhaps fasted low intensity morning cardio, all in that order. Drop the booze if you can. I recommend a combination of intermittent fasting and reverse pyramid training. More info on rippedbody.jp and lots of info in the RVF.

2) Get clothes that you will be comfortable AND stylish in the heat. I like wearing suits and blazers as much as anybody but it gets fucking hot and humid in the summers in the northeast. Think fitted henleys, v-necks, linen and cotton suits, lighter fabrics in dress shirts, lighter colors, stylish tank tops if you have the body, and age-appropriate shorts. No flip flops as the city streets are gross and full of shit. Espadrilles, boat shoes, and low chucks are great in the summer. Check out masculine-style.com for ideas.

3) Do your research for venues and events. Keep your eyes and ears out, talk to connectors, and read Time Out, NYmag.com, and that NYC nightlife app which can clue you in to the fun parties. I've got my list and won't be sharing all of it at the moment. However, I can recommend Standard Biergarden, Beekman Beergarden at South Street Seaport, along with any of the outdoor spots I mentioned in the intro. Vanity Fair publishes an annual summer guide every year. Here is one of the old ones to give you an idea: http://promotions.vf.com/summerguide/con...e-2012.pdf

4) Day game day game day game. Take the headphones off and pay attention to whats around. Do as much as possible outdoors, even with your laptop or reading books.

5) Develop some fun outdoor hobbies. Whether its jogging, hitting up the water for kayaking, or my favorite, biking, outdoor hobbies lift your spirits and give you something to do besides work and drink. I totally recommend getting a bike or signing up for citibike. There are numerous meet ups around the city, it keeps you fit and out of the hot subways, its easy to bring your bike and park next to some cutie taking a rest so you can give her the good chat, and there are even group night rides through central park, where I've met legit 8s.

6) Get your logistics on point. If possible, situate yourself in Manhattan and preferably somewhere downtown. Think West Village, SoHo, East Village, and my fave, Lower East Side. Chinatown an option too if close to LES. If you have to get roommates for the summer, so be it. I lived in the UWS for years, recently moved downtown, and its like night and day. Trust me on this one.

7) Have fun and relax. Its summer and one of my favorite things is to roll out solo, take some beers, bring some speakers for the tunes, and lay out on one of the piers while grabbing a tan.

Hope this helps be sure to add whatever I missed.

Yessir, NYC is my absolute favorite place to be in the spring.

The first warm day/evening here, it is almost a guarantee you will get laid.

This afternoon, it hit 60 degrees and all I had to do was stand outside the coffee shop, smile and say "Isn't it beautiful out!" and opened 6 girls.

Thank you for the reminder sir!

Excellent post Clint! Good days is round the corner indeed. Nothing like a good motivational pep to get us out of the winters slump. Pretty soon the sun will be out and the libido will hang thick in the spring air as all the girls dose up on that little extra vitamin D.

I can't wait.

Great motivation. This city is going to be pumping after a hard winter. The sun feels amazing.

Damn it guys, why did you have to ruin it for those of us stuck in less desirable locations. I'm jealous, stuck in Washington, DC. Even the warm weather here could not bring anyone out other than the whales [Image: angry.gif]

The highs would not be as high without the severe lows that we endured this winter.

A while back I learned that weather should never be an important factor in picking a place to live. NYC winters suck but I'd still rather be in NYC in January than a lot of other places.

Amazing how much weather affects the energy in NYC. Last night the temperature dropped into the teens and it was a ghost town.

Hey players how did your summer go in NYC? This has been one of the best summers of my life, and it'll last a bit longer, since it recently became pretty hot. Actually went +7 since May.

I didn't get to go to the gym the past 3 months since I tore tendons in my right hand in early June, but I stayed in decent shape by competing in 400m and 800m track through NYRR, as well as getting my bike on.
