Vancouver (DO NOT BOTHER)

Vancouver isn't the kind of place you can just hang out on the streets in regular clothes and have a lot of success. As the OP states cultural and architectural attractions are very, very thin on the ground, so there are not a not of places to go to anyway. You really have to be into either the outdoors or fitness. Or to be honest, both. If you are out of shape and amble about while hiding behind street clothes it is not the city for you.

Apart from Kits Beach, which has already been mentioned, you need to do the Grouse Grind ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grouse_Moun...ouse_Grind ). It is not anywhere close to easy to complete at all, let alone do in a reasonable time, but to play in a lot of circles in Vancouver you need to be the type of person who can do it, and does it several times every Summer with friends. Biking or blading around the Stanley Park seawall ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seawall_(Vancouver) is also were all the attractive people you didn't see on the streets are amusing themselves.

That's mostly Summer and fringe seasons of course. In Winter check out the ski slopes on the North Shore, or better yet Whistler. If it's too expensive to stay in Whistler there is a bus that leaves very early morning and returns early evening, though this is obviously only good for skiing/snowboarding itself and not really gaming.

TL;DR: If you are not into outdoors/fitness don't bother with the city. If you are, check out the places mentioned.
