Last year I worked in a store where one of my bosses was an attractive girl. Let's call her Jane. She's just my type: light skin, brown hair, faint freckles, and just enough meat on her to give her some nice cushion but nowhere near fat. She's only a year or two older than me, but being that I'm still in college I was there part time as an hourly worker and she was/is a manager on salary. Needless to say, she wasn't attracted to me. I ran into her at a bar once when I was still working there and she was friendly, but there's nothing more to that story. It's not like I'm unattractive, but as you guys probably know better than I do, hypergamy and all that stuff. No way a girl like her with options would be into one of her peon workers, even though I am a good looking dude who does decent with women.
Fast forward to this Tuesday and I'm at one of my favorite bars. I run into a buddy I haven't seen in a long time ("Tom") and we're chatting, when suddenly we notice Jane. Apparently Tom got her number one time but never called her. We bullshit for a little longer, then split up since I have some women to talk to. A little later I'm at the bar ordering a drink when I see Jane on the other side. We make eye contact, I smile at her, then go back to flirting with different girls. Seed planted.
Later on I'm going out to smoke when I run into Tom and his friends talking to Jane and her friend. Apparently she remembered him. I talk to them for a few mins, telling a story and cracking everyone up, before I go outside for that cigarette. When I come back in, Jane and her friend are at the bar away from Tom and his friends, and Tom's saying goodbye to his friends, as his wingmen are leaving. Being the good guy I am, I tell Tom fuck it, I'll take Jane's less than attractive friend for him so he can have another shot. However, something unexpected happens: as we're talking to them, I quickly realize that they're not interested in Tom, and both of them are way more into me. Naturally, I exploit this and start escalating (first just fucking with her, then whispering in her ear to talk, then touching, etc). Tom is not taking this unexpected turn of events well and starts getting nervous. Apparently he doesn't read RoK. After about 15 mins of this, Tom says he wants a shot and says he wants to switch spots with me so he can order one. The way we were positioned was in a corner with the bar on one side and the wall on the other. Jane was at the bar and I was right next to her, hand resting comfortably on her hip at this point, while Tom was away from the bar and behind us. Not thinking about the implications, I agree to switch spots so he can get his drink. As soon as I take my hand off of her and walk away I realize, shit, that was stupid. The girls turn their backs to both me and Tom and I watch their body language go from open and interested to closed off in about 3 seconds. I casually try to interject myself back into their conversation, but I get a dismissive response. I take the hint and just walk away. I assume that's probably the last time I'm going to see her and consider it a learning experience. A few minutes later, I'm outside the bar with a cigarette when I hear Jane call my name. I turn around and she tells me she's leaving as she's walking out (ignoring Tom, who is standing right next to me). I wave goodbye and she hops into a cab.
Had she not said goodbye to me, I wouldn't be writing this post. But she put in that little bit of effort to try and end the interaction on a good note, and she ignored Tom, so clearly she wasn't doing it just to be friendly. My gut tells me it would be worth contacting her. I don't have her number, but I have her on Facebook. My question to you all is: how should I approach this? Due to the nature of how our last interaction ended (me basically cockblocking myself), I don't think I should waste time with boring hey how are you shit. My plan is to send her a bold/funny message and if she responds then push for a meet up asap. I was thinking of using the "love is patient, love is blind, love is better from behind" restart text that I picked up from this place. Worked well with 2 other girls, although with them I had their phone numbers, which according to what I've read is different than sending a message on Facebook.
