Jaco Costa Rica Mini-Data Sheet

Jaco Costa Rica Mini-Data Sheet

Another one, from a trip less than a month ago...
Jaco

Overview
Jaco is a little town nestled between the mountains of Central Costa Rica and the Pacific Ocean. I wouldn’t think it worthy of a full data sheet, or perhaps even a mini-sheet, but this one was requested by a NN Forum Member soon traveling to Costa Rica. In the interest of obliging, here it is. Its a frequent stop in Costa Rica for tourists, particularly those looking for night-life in a more beautiful setting than in San Jose, and surfers.

Geography

About ninety minutes, depending on a number of factors, mostly traffic, from San Jose’s international airport, Jaco is basically one main street commercially, containing multiple restaurants, shops and assorted night-life spots. From the main street brand a few other less populated roads that have some local housing, less crowded and often higher end hotel/spas. Down the coast roads in either direction out of town, one can find more restaurants and hotels catering to eco-tourists and sportsters.

One block west of the main road is the beach, which is a black volcanic sand beach. It attracts locals for picnics and camping, and tourists for basically everything else, such as surfing (despite smallish waves its a popular destination even for experienced wave-riders, and especially for those seeking lessons), smoking weed, getting sun, etc.

Nearby is Herredura, which receives an influx of middle to upper class Ticans getting out of San Jose for the weekend. Herredura’s beach had no tourists to be seen on the Sunday I was there (for a boat launch and a fishing trip with my friends).

What to Do - Daytime
There isn’t really a shortage of tourist girls in Jaco. You’ll see them pretty much everywhere you venture. Many of them are of the unkempt backpacker variety, and/or right around drinking age. There are Scandinavians, and Americans/Canadians. Neither category really floats my boat, so I didn’t engage at all.

The real attraction of Jaco for daytime activity is sport. Along with the aforementioned surfing, which some of my group did to great satisfaction, there is four-wheeling on ATVs on dirt roads through the Costa Rican countryside. Its quite exhilerating, and at least our tour group took us to a thirty foot waterfall that can be scaled and jumped off. Make 100 percent sure your bike is totally functional before heading out of town (also done on your ATV) or you’ll be potentially stuck with a malfunctioning ATV. Mine had terrible misalignment until i switched after complaining, and others in our group had brake problems, helmet issues, etc. No injuries though, and the waterfall swimming was great. You’ll likely stop at a roadside place for ceviche (good) and beer (always good), so bring a bit of money. You can bring a cooler with as well - though we brought one, we didnt do anything but buy from the bars.

Another thing to do it go fishing/boating. For a half day on a decent but cabinless boat, five of us (could have been six) caught a bunch of fish, no big game fish however. We spotted swordfish, saw whales breaching, loads of dolphin swimming around and through the wake of the boat, and generally had a good time. If you want to know the outfit we used, I’ll find out - just PM me. They even cut sushi for us on the boat, complete with soy sauce and wasabi. Tip about 20 percent on top, max.

The Girls
Aside from the gnarly backpackers, there were paired up tourist girls (good luck), local non-working girls, and working girls.

The non-working girls are pretty hard to even open, as they don’t want to be seen by other locals with foreign guys, for risk of being thought of as a pro. They tend to keep their distance. There is one bar in town that was full of fat ticas, but I didnt go there (two of my friends did) and if thats you’re thing, I imagine you’d get a better receiption. Maybe. I don’t know. The only girls who were non-pro we spent time talking to were girls who worked for the company that manages the compound we rented, and their friends. But even with that, and them being friendly, there is a normal amount of distance. The girl who manages the company and I hung out some, and despite some limited IOI, when we went to a bar called Le Loft (more later), and an ugly pro was trying to open me, when I asked manager girl to pretend to be my gf to disengage this pro, she told me no- her stated reason was that crazy pros would actually go after her if they thought she was competing with them for foreigners.

The pros, are well, all over the board. To be sure there are some very attractive ones, and some that fall squarely in the over-the-hill crowd, and others who were probably never any good. They are ticas, nicaraguans, colombians, and dominicans. A lot of the ones my group interacted with were ticas, who vary in appearance from looking mediterranean to looking brazilians. There is even a chinese ethnic component due to immigrants from China to San Jose, but its not particularly noticeable more than making a few girls look to be of mixed heritage.

Pipelining

For Jaco, I only checked OKCupid and it was basically useless. Even craigslist, which has some activity in San Jose, is empty for Jaco (which doesn’t have its own listing), except for pros who will be a girlfriend experience during a trip to the beach areas.

Nighttime - The Clubs (Incomplete)
Orange is a dance club filled precariously with fog from a smoke machine and cigarette smoke. Bottle service is 120 for a premium bottle, and from what I could see, they had literally one table. The place was a mix of all sorts, local guys, maybe a few local girls, backpacker girls, and pros. The music when we went was electronic, and the place was absolutely packed. There is an outside area where it would be possible to have a conversation, but the area is basically a glorified alley filled with smokers. I think if you want to get into the mix there, you’ll probably be able to open backpacker girls, though they’re often in possessive mixed groups. Still possible, though you might have to fight off the pros first before you get a clean shot.

The Monkey Bar is a place with two different areas, a VIP room that had a good DJ, but was almost completely empty except for a few locals, and a grungy front room with many pros and tourists. Its a big bigger than Le Loft, but definitely lower market. It closes earlier than Le Loft, so if you go to Monkey Bar first, you’ll see repeat offenders at Le Loft later that night.

Restaurants - just briefly, expect good food in Jaco (and in Costa Rica in general). We ate at Amigos, which looks like a sports bar and gets a bar crowd, but the food was quite good. Prices were comparable to an ethnic restaurant in the USA. I have to admit that I wasnt focused on money, because I was treated the whole weekend for my bachelor party. Another very tasty spot is Graffiti, which was all tourists and just off the main drag. Its more expensive and higher end than Amigos, with a moderately fancy wine list. Its not a party spot.

Le Loft
Down and across the street from Orange, this place has a cover (perhaps with a big group they’ll waive it, but probably not on weekends) of US$10 I think. Its small, with a few VIP tables, and absolutely crawling with pros. Le Loft is open later than the other places, and gets about as crowded as possible. If you head to the tiny dance floor (basically anywhere in the club that you have room to dance), you’re likely to get opened by a pro. There is a balcony outside where other pros may linger for conversation. Outside on the street, there are bunches of them walking up and departing at all times the club is open, and its the best place to see what they really look like (which you can do if you’re tall enough from the balcony on the second floor where the club is). One night I considered just grabbing a girl from out front of Le Loft, and maybe I would have, but I went downstairs during a lull for some reason, no one was around for a few minutes, and I taxied back to our compound.

There was a fourth club somewhere or other, but we never made it there.

A bit more about Jaco pros - the quantity of them in some of the bars (Le Loft in particular) rivals what I saw in Thailand. They are all freelancers, as prostitution is legal in Costa Rica, but pimping is not. Everything is open to negotiation, and if you choose to partake (ultimately I didn’t, not that I wouldn’t have but the timing didnt work out for what and how I wanted it), you should negotiate details, including price, services, protection.

Unlike Thailand, or the Philippines, the chance of shoring successfully in Jaco would seem to be quite low. In fact, these girls seem to gravitate vigorously towards older guys, likely because they have more disposable cash. Another thing to note is the rampant reputation for theft that Jaco pros have. You’ll be warned repeatedly to hide your belongings if you have one in your room, and most hotels have safes.

One night instead of heading out, we decided to cook our catch from fishing, and have one of the guys who had a pro the night before call his pro and tell her to bring five good looking girls to the house. She agreed to bring some girls down, and if we didnt like them at the door to the compound, or if no one took them, we’d pay them cab fare or a tip. She showed up with four decent looking girls, and four out of five got taken down by four of my eight friends staying with us in the compound. One girl, a plump Nicaraguan with a nice face and fat lips, I was ready to let step up to the mike, but when she insisted it be w/ condom for just that, I tipped her 20 dollars for hanging out for an hour plus and then she left. Then unsolicited, my friend’s previous night pro called another girl ostensibly willing to provide a girlfriend experience bj, but when she arrived she was an absolute tank. No chance, and so she got tipped out with cab fare and booted as well.

So as you can see, the prices aren’t cheap (my friends overpaid in my opinion, but US$100 is fairly common, though I think on weekdays I imagine 50-60 is quite doable). Condoms are de rigeur for all activities as well, unless you bargain otherwise. Some girls may want to stay the night if you took them late, otherwise they’ll head back out. One of my friends reported the lovely sight of a girl with paper towels jammed up inside of her and her friend (he took two at once)... a lovely thought about what she might have wanted to contain. I can’t even decide what’s worse. Also, again, if you let them stay, make sure all your shit is locked up.

All in all, I had fun, I didn’t come remotely close to flagging, I didn’t P2P, but many of my friends did and had fun. I did catch some nice fish (the kind in the ocean) and go ATV’ing, and it was a fun weekend and a good way to spend time with friends. Not cheap, but not horrendously expensive, especially if you keep your P2P spending in check.

I've referral links for most credit cards, PM me for them & thanks if you use them
Strip away judeo-christian ethics ingraining sex is dirty/bad & the idea we're taking advantage of these girls disintegrates. Once you've lost that ethical quandary (which it isn't outside religion) then they've no reason to play the victim, you've no reason to feel the rogue. The interaction is to their benefit.

This wasn't my experience, but nice data sheet nonetheless.
