Games Of Thrones : Season 4

One of the few tv-series where characters regularly pay for idiotic decisions. The Red Wedding being a prime example.

Games Of Thrones : Season 4

Season 4 will be much better than season 3, which I think might have been the worst season. I'm happy that they're incorporating book 5 obviously which makes sense because the books are separated by geography, not time.

The political intrigue will grow, and the mystical intrigue - more importantly - will grow. I recommend any guys who have read the books to read the 3 short stories GRRM has written about the same Universe based about 100 years before the events of the books. "The Tales of Dunk and Egg". He's written 3 out of a potential 5-6, and they become more and more important towards what is the real end-game in the books, what the Others are, what the history of the Targaryans is, etc.

Knocked out all the books in a couple months after the first season ended. Couldn't help myself. At this point, I'd hate to watch this show and not know what's coming, but on the other hand I realize how quickly this show is outpacing Martin's writing speed. It will be interesting how far this season takes the timeline.

Games Of Thrones : Season 4

I love both the show and books to the point of near-obsession. I do see shortcomings in both, though. I think they both make the other better and complement each other in a way.

Season 4 should be excellent, but I imagine cheesey/frustrating at times too. I always feel like TV critics are somewhat over-enthusiastic about Game of Thrones. Today the LA Times called it the best TV show of all time. Although it's my favorite show, I just can't agree with that because it is too often clunky in its dialogue, slow in its character development, repetitive, and obviously cheating things for budgetary reasons. Even though I would never miss an episode.

I think ultimately, this show is even better in our HEADS thinking about it, analyzing all the different storylines, and remembering the big moments. What we see on air each week is great at times, good at others, and sometimes weak. I wouldn't compare it to the authorial greatness of Mad Men, for instance. But still endlessly enjoyable.

The plot gets so much more intricate after each book. I don't know how they're going to keep all the new characters in check, and on a budget, in seasons 5,6 etc

A lot of them will probably die.

And she will maybe fuck that up too, and become the main villian of the series. Wait and watch. GRRM is a very Red Pill author.

ehhh, I won't call GRRM red pill. I am guessing Sam the Slayer will somehow end up saving everyone.

What I like about Victarion Greyjoy is that we don't really know what he is up to. That and he is full on crazy.

I think you mean Euron Greyjoy, who is crazy but also a super dark triad psycho male. Sam will not end up saving everyone, but will provide important information on Other slaying and Dragon slaying.

GRRM is certainly red pill however. If you read the characters deeply, there's every kind, just as we predict here. I'd say however, look at the character of Petyr Baelish and his rise.

Tyrion Lannister's GF Shae in the show was a former porn actress named Sibel Kekilli.

I guess they decided that worked out well, they added three porn actresses to the cast this season.

Yes, Euron is more of a wild card and a far more interesting character. Victarion is just a grunt and Euron's pawn.

As for Sam the Slayer, I see a lot of George RR Martin writing himself into that character, it's one of GRRM's favorite characters, he has said as much. If there is anyone who is likely to kill a dragon before all is said and done, I think it is Samwell.

As for Petyr Baelish, I have no idea what he is up to except to create chaos: he tells Catelyn that it was tyrion's dagger used to try to assassinate her son to create a civil war with the starks and lannisters.

He gave specific instructions to Lysa Tully to keep the Vale neutral in the civil wars so that it will have a fresh army.

He is apparently in love with Sansa Stark, even moreso than he was with her mum. He realizes that she is the key to the North and manipulates her pretty easily.

He is apparently biding his time in the last couple of books, and collected Targarean banners to put up in case they succeed in their invasion?

I have always considered the "game of thrones" to be a battle between littlefinger and varys. They are really the only 2 players that I can identify, the rest are just pieces. (Euron could be a player, same for Jon Snow when all is said and done, and same for Stannis because none of them can really be controlled, same for the monsters in the north.)

Spoilery, but really more conspiracy theory-ish:

The game of thrones is nothing. It is the song of ice and fire. The Starks and the Targs, the Dragons and the Others. Bloodraven and Bran [again Targ and Stark] overlooking it all with their Weirwood trees and Ravens.

Amidst all this we have revenge stories. The faceless men plotting against the Dragons of old Valyria that enslaved them for example. The Blackfyres plotting against the Targs, and the Maesters doing something else entirely.

And then we have Euron, who is kind of the hedonist "Pin Head" Hellraiser figure.

This. I LOVE how this show doesn't have "Plot Armour" given to the main characters. If a character does something amazingly stupid (Red wedding example) He isn't goin away unscathed. I love that shit.

Solid start to Season 4.

Surely the Hound has to be the most Alpha of the show (although there are many Alpha's) - simply does not give a fuck.

He does Arya's bidding. The books and now the show have shown that she just uses him for protection and to take down Lannisters she can't (yet) kill herself.

Spoiler Alert: That girl is going to kill everyone. When Martin says, "All men must die", what he means is that that psycho little murder child is going to murder them.

If you are going to impose your will on the world, you must have control over what you believe.

He does Arya's bidding.

Agreed. She created the situation in which he either has to give up his gold (via her ransom) or get Needle back for her.

Once she ran up to the door and Polliver came out, he had to fight. If he had tried to walk away, she would have said 'My name is Arya Stark and I am worth a fortune in Kings Landing'.

As long as he doing her bidding she was fine with letting him pick the time and place of the fight. The only 'alpha' thing he could have done is deny her the rewards of her manipulation - taking Needle and not giving her a horse. He didn't do either.

Tywin Lannister, I think, is the most Alpha at this point in the show.

At 28min in to the new one, there's some game.. the queen asks Jamie if he's Jealous.. instead of saying "no" or getting shaken, he says "I'm surprised". Perfect retort and possible neg.

I'm pretty pumped for this week's episode! I saw someone point this out elsewhere:

The episode is called The Lion & The Rose and focuses on the wedding of Joffrey & Margaery. But since Joffrey is a Baratheon (technically), shouldn't it be The Stag & The Rose? Discuss.

I'm surprised they're doing the wedding this early. Non readers are in for some...excitement.

[Makes sense though because the show people want to make a lot of the season centered on Tyrion and his problems]

He's more of a Lannister, and it's his Lannister relatives who run King's Landing at the moment. Robert Baratheon is dead, Renly Baratheon is dead, and the most notable of the surviving Baratheons (Joffrey's "Uncle" Stannis) is at war with the Lannisters (and presumed defeated).

Given all that (on top of the fact that Joffrey is actually 100% Lannister with no actual Baratheon blood), I can see why the Lannister lineage would be emphasized a bit more. Joffrey is a (demented, sociopathic) Lion, not a Stag.

Yeah makes sense. Plus we, the audience (particularly the mass, less detail-oriented HBO audience) know that he is just a Lion. So it's like a nod to the audience and less confusing.

If you want to know who is responsible for the death at the end of episode 2 (not mentioning names here so as not to spoil it for those who havent seen it yet) take a look at who is the frame when the priest talks about cursing those who should render them asunder.
