Must Have Experiences, Must See Places, Around the World

The Great Wall of China is something I've always wanted to walk.

I've done it, cannot recommend it enough. Too many travelers to Asia only go to SEA and Japan, mainland China is highly underrated. I wouldn't go for a pussy trip though.

Great article Fisto.

At it's core, exploring the world is about the most manly thing you can do. Call it 'alpha', call it 'red pill', call it whatever you want.

It's funny, as I've grown and evolved as a man I've begun to take great pleasure in working hard. That is both career wise and travel wise. I genuinely enjoy waking up early and working hard towards a better day. I equally enjoy surviving in difficult environments.

Of late, subconsciously I've found that I've been judging other men based on how hard they work.

I'm excited to see the direction in which the travel portion of the forum is going. I'm liking that other men are traveling with the mentality of 'I can go anywhere and do anything' AND 'I can walk into a club and bang hotter pussy than you'.

I've noticed the same thing. I'm always partial to a hard working asshole than a wimpy cool guy.

Everyone should jump out of a plane at least once. Should be alone, not one of these tandem jumps.

Be in a fight for your life and win, when on paper you would lose badly.
I got jumped by 7 guys, they had knives and i was unarmed.
It'll change your perspective on life and make you stop wasting it.

Welcome to the club.

That happened to you every week up at the roadhouse, didn't it?

Haha the roadhouse is actually not too bad. The Backalley was always the problem bar.

The situation was a combination of extremely good luck and training martial arts since i was 8.

My Sensei would tell us do not bring a knife into a fight unless you know how to use it better than the other guy. The other guys had zero training in offense or defense involving knives.

I wont pretend that it was easy and i never got stuck.
I have a few scars and a gratitude for my life.

I've seen them, but there is seriously absolutely nothing like seeing the northern lights in Lapland at all. Lost all sense of anything in life and just focused on the shimmering sky.

Must Have Experiences, Must See Places, Around the World

Nice thread idea OP. Places I want to see/go would mostly involve some degree of action or adrenalin, seems to be a common desire with most of us in here. It's funny because our grandfathers wouldn't need to run around the world and do stupid shit to feel satisfied. But maybe it's due to the fact that most of us live in societies where masculinity is under attack and people in general are wrapped in cotton wool by health and safety so travel needs to be an escape rather than just a sight seeing experience. Or maybe we're just more SWPL than we care to admit [Image: lol.gif]. Examples:
  • Nepal - Everest base camp with hiking and paragliding
  • Ecuador - Galapagos cruise with land excursions and diving
  • Venezuela - Angel falls (base jumping, though this is probably a long shot, maybe a 5-10 year goal as I will need to do hundreds of skydives and dozens of base jumps before I have the skill for this)
  • Peru - Machu Picchu
  • Bolivia - Salar de Uyuni & death road via 4x4 or motorcycle
  • Spain/Morocco - 4x4 trip from south of Spain across the Mediterranean on a ferry and through Morocco
  • Japan - Niseko for night skiing in unbelievable powder
  • Anywhere in Scandinavia - hit up those crazy naked saunas and natural ice baths. Northern Lights at the same time
  • Antarctica - cruise or fly in expedition
  • Fiji or Bahamas - dive with great whites (Fiji) or Tiger Sharks (Bahamas)
  • Mexico - dive with whale sharks
I plan to do 2+ out of these this year. The rest will take quite a bit of money so after doing them I'll stick to smaller trips or no trips whilst I sort my finances but I'll get there [Image: smile.gif].

Really good thread idea OP.

@Champ Lençóis Maranhenses is stunning. Looks like a place where if you can splurge for a day in a helicopter you'd have an unforgettable time.
@Ubietza and @Aliblahba I have a good friend from Nepal, he has sold me on going so if you plan to go Nepal PM me when you do, it's pretty cheap to live like a king from what he tells me.
@Sp5 have you skydived before or it's a plan also?
@Soma Bagan is incredible.

Niagara Falls - may not be a big deal to some but everytime I visit it makes me stop for a second and appreciate it's beauty.
Iceland - has some of the most amazing scenery you will ever see, oh and the ladies aren't too bad either.

Must Have Experiences, Must See Places, Around the World

I know it's a cliché, but sometimes the every day stuff really IS the best stuff (though not always). I've visited a lot of 'must-see' places, but a lot of my favorite travel memories are pretty 'trivial'. These are all things that will stick with me forever:

1) A Taipei rain storm: In Taipei, it can absolutely PISS it down for three days straight. Pick up an umbrella and walk through the streets at night, it looks absolutely beautiful, like a Japanese video game.

The city oozes a glow of red, and the roads seemingly move with the flow of water. The sound of rain hammering down on your apartment is immensely relaxing (for me anyway)

2) Winter in Seoul: I MUST go back here in the winter-time. Korea is about as bland as it gets architecture-wise, but the Siberian-influenced winter makes the place as grey as can be. In it's own way it's beautiful, you'll see shades of grey you never knew existed! The sky looks artificial and being there are this time makes the world seem awfully big.

In addition, the pavements have NO GRIT, so everyone falls over every ten minutes. Korea has a hot summer, but I recommend going there in the winter to really get a feel for the place. Photo attached:

3) Itaewon. Korea is the second most ethnically homogeneous country in the world (behind the North). They're extremely tough on immigration and the Korean way rewards conformity and punishes individuality. So, it's unbelievable to experience this TINY pocket in the country which is PACKED full of Turks, Ethiopians, Indians, Russians, Hookers, Transvestites and fighting soldiers.

I remember walking up the subway stairs to that place for the first time. I was transported to a different country.

4) Whizzing around Bangkok on a motorcycle in the low evening sun: I love being on the back of a motorcycle taxi during that period when the sun glows authoritatively ORANGE over the city. Impossible not to grin.

5) Thai students: An absolute joy to teach. Teachers are (bizarrely) shown a lot of respect in Thai society and the result is that your students are unbelievably polite. Walking through the corridors and being wai'd at is awesome. Also, during the breaks, you'll regularly walk pass a foursome of students who are deep in meditation on the floor.

6) The first 24 hours after starting life outside your home country. In my mind, I regularly try to go back to my first day in Korea. The feeling of being on the other side of the world and having a long life of travel ahead was overwhelming. Only then I truly realised that a lot of societal control measures are illusory.

Must Have Experiences, Must See Places, Around the World

I thought of a few more things from around China and SEA.

China--Chinese New Year in one of the big cities. I did it in Shanghai. Try to get high up in one of the skyscapers and be out on a balcony at midnight. The fireworks are absolutely insane. Literally fireworks everywhere you can see.---YES AMAZING

Harbin Cat Zoo--Take the Jeep out into the sanctuary and fork over ten bucks for the guides to throw a live chicken up on top of the Jeep. A full sized Bengal Tiger--or a Liger if you're lucky(yes, a motherfucking LIGER)--will literally hop on top of the car you're in and tear the chicken to bits. Make sure you get video. You can also pay about 400 bucks for them to do the same thing with a cow, but obviously they don't throw it on top of the car.---You can also give the pandas Coca-Cola bottles. They twist off the bottle and guzzle it like alcoholics.

Riding an Elephant in Thailand--Cool stuff but make sure you ask to "drive" the elephant and take the reigns. People's faces always light up when you tell them you drove an elephant. Plus controlling one of the largest land animals with your own two hands is pretty cool.---Feed them bananas too.

WIA- For most of men, our time being masters of our own fate, kings in our own castles is short. Even those of us in the game will eventually succumb to ease of servitude rather than deal with the malaise of solitude
