No matter what you decide to do, you'll always wonder what it would be like if you did something else. It's one of the big conundrums of life. There are no easy answers.

Go with what you know, at the time you think about it. Do the best you can with the information you have.

In today's world, you're going to have to reinvent yourself anyway every decade or so.

I think I would make a really good dictator for some small screwed up country like Somalia or the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Why a dictator?

I sell legal drugs for a living.

Im dreaming of becoming a plastic surgeon to give boob jobs on a daily basis but probably would be more work with accident and trauma cases.

But after a days pondering I would actually like to do what McQueen does for a month just for the experience.

If I could do it all over I'd do something with fitness and nutrition.

The chef lifestyle, especially at the high end, is extremely dark. Great chefs all look like shit, feel like shit, and die young. I've long since given up any dream of reaching culinary mount olympus. It's a sham.

If I could go back I would have started a fitness based lifestyle at 16 and gone from there. I'd take some nutrition and physiology classes, maybe get a degree in physical therapy, and become a health guru in L.A. I'd go around giving seminars and selling the latest fad diet, training a roster of A-list celebrity clients, endorse some gimmicky home gym equipment, be a complete sell-out.

After numerous scandals in southeast asia, I'd be ostracized from the Hollywood crowd. I'd go into hiding for a few years, maybe get a dual citizenship somewhere, and then come back after a few years and write a book about my road to recovery. It'd be a best-seller and my fortune would triple.

So what's stopping you?

Serious question. You're a smart guy and know your stuff.

Lately I've been thinking of getting into organic farming, permaculture. I'm tired of working with my brain, I want to learn how to work with my hands.

Wouldn't trade my job for anything. Wake up every day excited to go to work (unless sleep was shitty). Not for everyone though I'm a high strung guy and could never spend a day "on the beach chilling" wouldn't happen.

That said if I had to choose a different job I would go and become a pilot. That was what I wanted to be when I was 5 years old. I have way too much energy and the job would allow for me to use it and see different parts of the world.

Sadly though, the thrill of seeing a "new country" at this point has reached diminishing returns. You know you've spent too much time traveling when you don't feel any stress or anxiety landing in a new place solo with no connections. So the job may suck long-term.

Still though, always wanted to fly a plane as well.

Yes. I think, all else being equal, CR7 has the best situation of any man on earth.

It's a strong consideration and something I'm sort of working toward. I need to get in considerably better shape. I just started lifting just over a year ago. Another year of strength gains and get my BF down to 10% and it's something I may look into. Just not sure what exactly I would do...personal trainer, nutritionist, meal planner, all the above?

I know a good bit about nutrition, and being in L.A. I'm pretty attuned to the latest fad diets and such. I'm not sure what qualifications I'd need, if any, but I think I have a schtick down.

"Former Michelin star cook-turned-nutritionist/health guru". Something along those lines. I could even specifically gear it towards skinnyfat ectomorphs since that's what I've been my entire life.

Heres what I am seriously considering doing:

Take one year off from my job. I absolutely love my job (it's even been mentioned on this thread as what some of you would do), but everything has a certain level of bullshit that you need to escape from once in a while.

During that year:

1. Move to SEA
2. Live off 2k a month
3. Pick a technical field of study where skills are more important (and can be verified) that a college degree/piece of paper. Essentially the employer will pick whoever can perform the job the best, regardless of where that person was educated.
4. I would chose to learn two major programming languages. One front end and one back end.
5. Educated myself using online couses (udemy.com type stuff) and online resources (w3schools.com type stuff).
6. Spend ~3 months learning the basics of both languages
7. Spend the remainder of the 9 months furthering my knowledge by taking intermediate and advanced courses, participating in open source projects, and building a project of myself from scrap.
8. Booze and whore myself around. Travel. enjoy everything I can from SEA while there.
9. Maintain meticulous financial records and a journal recording my lifestyle and exploits while there.
10. At the end of the year, travel back home and apply for any type of job that my knowledge could get my hands. I want to see how many job offers I would get and at what salaries.
11. Go back to my current job while teaming up with like minded entrepreneurs to further my business and programming skills by bringing new ideas to the market at the fastest pace possible.

12. Remember all those financial records and my debauchery journal? Yeah, I'm teaming up with an author and we are going to make that shit public. A red-pill, anti-college, pro-game record of my Odyssey. That story would turn the college industry upside-down.

Well not really: The total cost of obtaining my new found profitable skills while maintaining a lifestyle that every frat boy would salivate over would have cost me only 24k and 12 months of my life total. The average college experience would have costed around 91k and 4 years of wasted time, especially when around half of your credits are electives(source:http://www.collegedata.com/cs/content/content_payarticle_tmpl.jhtml?articleId=10064). But you can't take the blue pill away from mainstream America.

That book would sell. And if it didn't, I would still have job to come back to with the crazy stories of a year pursing my own education on my own terms at my own pace.

Do you work in a Michelin rated establishment? If so, that's fuckin great, dude. You must put out stellar food. [Image: thumb.gif] I'd love to travel to France and do a stage at a Michelin spot but havent had the opportunity as of yet.
