Does ROK have a Youtube Channel?

I've got a couple of answer-to-the-music-answer-videos to upload, but don't want to deal with the now-required hassle of signing up to Google anonymously, which will mean waiting until the 3rd of Jan my end. Is there a quicker way?

It's to [Image: troll.gif] this... thing.

No worries, shoot me the details privately.

No go. Google has collected enough data on you to know my anonymous US IP isn't in your normal log-in area, so wants to send you an SMS or phone call to continue, which is exactly why I want nothing to do with the fuckers.

Nah, google remembers.

Too much money to be made in selling user's data to bother with still allowing anonymous users I guess.

Thanks anyway.

Context: it's her response to this ROK article. She tagged it under 'comedy'. Girls are shitfully-unfunny.

Nah, Yahoo requires you to use a phone to verify now too.

So, basically, I spent 20 minutes editing her performance into steady time.
10 minutes rehearsing with the band after a drinking session.
3 minutes doing a rough take.
40 minutes doing another solo version by myself.
30 minutes editing her video to lipsync both versions.

Time spent trying to upload either of them onto Youtube without giving google my phone number, trying various web and programme proxies: 4 hours.

Time spent thinking "Screw it, i'll try Dailymotion" and trying to get any of their three upload methods to actually work: 2 hours.

It's not worth expending any more effort over, for something only moderately-amusing at best.

There's no way in hell I'm giving google my phone number either. Needless to say, their "privacy" practices are insulting. The outrage can be seen in the comments here.

I created a Gmail account just for a video to upload, I ignored the prompt box for a phone number, and answered the Captcha (sp?) underneath, and that was good enough. When asked AGAIN when uploading to GoogleTube, there was a "skip for now" sort of option, which I obviously clicked.

My little video took 6 hours. ( crazy for mild amusement ). But, here's what I learned.
-how to download video and split audio from video
-how to modify audio in separate editor
-2 hours of experimenting with different effects to get required results in Vegas and Audacity
-how to glue audio back into Vegas and line it up with video
- Rendering.....Argh. SIX attempts and Vegas kept shutting down.
1.5 hours at least. Searched the net for a solution and found that Vegas often does this. It's apparently caused by overheating. So, I tried tilting my laptop on the corner of the screen and body so air would dispense easier, and kept the cd/dvd drive drawer fully open for air flow while rendering. It seemed to work. Go figure.

Anyways, a lot of work for some goofs.

Oddly, I felt a bizarre indirect sort of rapport with the Pizza Lady through working on her voice so much. Ha. I wish her no harm at all and undertook the process as a purely creative challenge.

I wonder if you're being forced to provide a phone number because you're coming in through proxy?

Sorted it.

Considering how friggin' out of time she was in the original, I'm surprised it worked so well. And, yes, I could have easily-autotuned her, but it's funnier that I didn't.

Urban solo version:

Hipster punk version with the band, barely-rehearsed, whilst drunk and swapping our instruments around:

We're much better than this, but, in both videos, the idea was to sound as amateurish and anonymously-generic as possible. I think it illustrates the difference in the results between a girl putting in low effort and men doing the same.

How did vimeo treat you? They use it a lot for game art and sculpting and it seems better visual quality than youtube. Not sure about how invasive it is compare to youtube/google-. If its good I might start up an account and start doing my digital speedsculpting again.

I hope they promote your work on ROK. Hilarious work.

That's funny stuff. The video ads a lot to the overall aesthetic, specifically the contrast between the antagonist, who is wearing a dreary cardigan, hasn't brushed her hair or ironed her t-shirt, against up-beat and happy indie-sounding music. The cats are cool too.

The urban version has that synthetic-cheese image inducing bass sound, good arrangement too. The choir is a nice faux-dramatic touch. You're obviously more than a hobbyist. You'll have to put together another Rok band, just for this forum.

I think "Not Zooey Deschannel" is a great name for some kind of punk band, it's probably illegal to use though. So props for all the work, I know what went into those. It's not exactly like making a gif, or snapping a pic where there's almost an automatically complete composition.

I have to get serious about learning DAW software now. It's like pulling teeth, can't stand it, but after hearing your stuff I realize I really should be able to sync to tempo by now. Good job.

Thanks guys.

I could use Vimeo through a proxy shield, and it uploaded more reliably than Dailymotion. The quality seems solid, and it's far less intrusive than Google / Youtube.

I wasn't after promotion from ROK, I just wanted to give people a chuckle, and thought they might have had a video channel to speed uploading.

It honestly wasn't much effort or time expended as you'd think. Just a simple intellectual exercise: can I put a diferent musical backing over her godawful song, considering it was poorly mic'd, with the voice and instrument on one track? Huh. It worked. Then: could I change the chords and filter out her ukelele playing into something moodier so it didn't sound like the Taylor Swift song at all? Could I do both in a way that anyone who knows me or the band would never recognise me or us? OK, that worked. Then: could i make a video and lipsync it? I have Vegas somewhere but had never gotten around to using it and have no idea where I put it.

I figured if the Windows Live Moviemaker software is easy enough for teenage girls to use to create their godawful tv character shipping videos accompanied by Evanescence, then how hard could it be? Result: it isn't.

Give it a crack Zep. I didn't read anything. Just trial, error and 'what does this button do?' My tip would be look for any rhythm in the imagery. For the edits, I generally was watching her mouth starting to shape the syllable as she was about to start the downstroke of each chord. I could only do so much - her sense of timing really terrible.

I realise I also screwed up. I never noticed she had a different final chorus about eating pizza and being an ugly feminist, but her video was dragging by about the two minute mark as it was, so I hacked out a lot of redundancy.

Here's a famous one I remember back from the pre-internet days that used to make me laugh.

Yea, I've got to get down to business now, I keep procrastinating.

Ha, The Sex Pistols. Twenty five years ago or so I had just watched a movie featuring tons of the Pistols and I was stoked on their tunes, so I asked a band I was in at the time to learn "Bodies". It was a sight to see, preppy self-conscious nice guys playing this nasty tune during the day in the presence of suburbanites.

I really liked the Pistols, which is odd because I don't like punk, and never have ( although punks and goths and what have you are some of the nicest people I've ever met )

The opening line is just killer.
