I searched the forum but didn't find much info on the 3rd biggest city in China. I'll be spending two days there soon for Chinese New Year. Hoping to get information from others on hot spots to facilitate a one night stand.

From my research, I've heard your best bet for pipelining is Date in Asia or maybe some language exchange. Can anyone give me bars/clubs hotspots in Guangzhou?

I'm living in Taiwan now, so I can at least make a comparison of mainland girls to Taiwanese girls. I've heard different things. Some say mainlanders are hotter and foreigners will seem more exotic to them. But then Taiwanese girls might be a bit fancier and dress better. I'd love a datasheet if anyone could do it. If not I'll post more after my trip.

Sorry, I don't really know anything about the place. I've heard it's kind of a shithole and nightlife is abysmal. Most people seem to recommend against going and staying there long term.

But I'd love to hear a comparison of mainlander women vs. Taiwanese girls when you come back.

I guess everyone agrees Taiwanese girls are hotter on average.

Yeah living there might be questionable but I think it's worth checking out for a couple days as I pass through for travel. I guess there are a lot of foreigners in that city so maybe we lose our novelty value. I just really was hoping to find a good location to check out to try my luck at a ONS. I'll try some subway pickup maybe or just trying online pipelining.

I just spent the last 6 months in Shanghai and generally agree with that statement. While both mainlaind Chinese and Taiwan girls can look really hot, I felt that Taiwan girls had better personalities. Whether this is from being more Westernized, I have no idea. But Taiwan chicks were much more approachable and friendly at bars and clubs than most Chinese chicks. BUT that does not mean that the flake/date/bang rate is significantly lower with Taiwan girls. Still got to have tight game.

There's a part of the downtown that has a bunch of bars. The bars are probably at least half expats, but that's not surprising for China. Sorry I don't remember the name, but it's 2 blocks from a subway stop (yeah, I know that doesn't help much). Emm... look up the names of Irish pubs, as there was one on that street.

Ahh ok found it in my old messages. It's near Liede metro station, Exit D, then walk towards Cuisines Rendezvous. Look for Rebel Rebel, on Tiyu Dong street. There's a bunch of bars along there.

Also Martyr's Park metro, Exit C, had what looked to be a sort of trendy club next to it, but I only walked by it and didn't go in (I was there in the day).

In my experience, Guangzhou wasn't that full of expats. It felt more like a tight-knit expat community to me.

If you want to try university girls, take the metro to HEMC (Higher Education Megacenter), either stop. Then 1-2km from there will be a sort of mall, that's across the street from the Guangzhou Uni main entrance (read maps carefully -- there are 5-10 universities all next to each other). Ask a taxi driver to take you the KFC, as it's on the outside of that mall, and next to the Guangzhou Uni Business Hotel. In the evenings, the mall (it's sort of like an outdoor mall) will be packed with students, but remember a lot of them will rush home by 11pm or midnight because their dorms close. The place has a bunch of student-caliber cafes, and then there's a tiny lounge/bar on the outer edge, and a nightclub next to it. If you visit the lounge/bar, ask them if they remember the white guy who kept ordering his cocktails with double shots of vodka because he said they were making them too weak [Image: smile.gif]

The HEMC area has at least 20k students roaming around, so that's why I mention it.

The subway in Guangzhou stops super early like 11pm or something, so be mindful of that if you're trying to avoid taxis.

Sorry for bumping this old thread. But Im planning on moving to China next year for teaching English and I want to know what is the best city possible in terms of girls, culture, etc...

I basically want a big city that offers everything but at the same time is not overflooded with foreigners like Shanghai and Beijing and still maintain my foreign value. Is Guanzhou that city?

Thanks in advanced guys.

"Overall, northern China is much more polluted than southern China. Each of the top 13 most polluted cities were north of the Huai River, a traditional dividing line located in Henan.

Southern coastal cities are the least polluted. Each of Guangdong’s cities ranked among the 20 least polluted cities, and six of the nine average less than 50 micrograms per cubic meter. Both of Fuzhou’s cities, Fujian and Xiamen, met China’s standards, averaging 33.2 and 31.3 respectively. Finally, Haikou, on the paradise island of Hainan, south of Guangdong, was the least polluted of all, averaging 25.6 micrograms per cubic meter."

I'd take this is a very serious factor in your decision and do your research. Rumors about girls being more attractive or easier to game in this city or that city are just based off of random good luck or bad luck different individuals had when they tried gaming in different cities. They may or may not be true. But pollution levels are a guaranteed factor that will affect your quality of life.

I have a buddy teaching in China right now and he seriously hates the pollution in his city and wishes he went to a less polluted one.

MW, perhaps check out this (my) thread. Shenzhen isn't the only choice, but for many reasons, I think its a solid one.

Come to China only as a last resort. If you have a real degree from a real university, there are 100's of other BETTER options. I would love to tell you and forum just half of the wonderful things that happen here but likely I'd be jepordizing my wife's future immigration. So suffice to say there are much nicer places on the planet. Bangkok pays a bit less but the quality of life is 10 times better and they still have clean water. You have to be very careful what you say about China on the net, someone is always reading your posts and going through your emails, sounds ideal right.

Have you ever seen black or grey water before and I don't mean sludge or anything just in general? Sometimes the water is multicoloured... frequently the water smells of rotting fruit or garbage, I'm not sure which and you have to take a shower each day. I'm used to smelling faintly of rot though. Oh yes Guangzhou is famous for three : flying cockroaches, black centipedes and black mold. You will need to invest in an air cleaner for your apartment for 500 to 1000 dollars, they are very important not just for the 2.5's but also everything else that is floating around in the air. I have to change filters every 4 months because black dust is caked on my cleaner.

Cantonese are also some of the most arrogant people in China, both my friends, wife and I all agree on this. If you go to buy something, they will qoute you the usual foreigner price but when you bargain they will tell you point blank, to "get lost" or just wave you off. Up north, at least, they will bargain and work for your business, here they don't care. Infact most people here simply don't care about anything, by product of enormous wealth. Good luck trying to locate an apartment, I was told in one place by a particularily arrogant woman: "I have children in Canada but I have no desire to let a Canadian stay in my apartment". This while we were looking through rentals. More often than not, the agent will phone and people will just flat out refuse a foreigner. You will end up staying in a dump, they'd much rather have a Chinese who throws chicken bones under the couch then an ultra clean foreigner, this is the extent of blatant racism present in Guangzhou. You are only going to get the apartments that they are having a really hard time renting. If the people seem really genuine and smile at you alot, you can pretty much be guarnteed they secretly hate you. It's always funny to call them out when they are doing this. If you like being stared at like an ugly panda you should definetely take the subway, when I hold my wife's hand, I get stink eye from the locals. Anytime my wife tries to ask a local person for directions they just wave her off... I have one very good Chinese friend from here and he is leaving with his wife, for America in 4 months. At one point my wife and I were at a night club and I was up dancing on a podium, This Chinese guy and his friends come up to me, smile and shake my hand, telling me they like my dancing, then when I wasn't looking, they grab my wife and try to pull her out of the club, they were yelling something about her being a race traitor. Luckily I had an American friend and his wife standing nearby, suffice to say that my wife hates going to nightclubs now.

The north is so great in some places that you can't see across the street, fact. We stay here because this is the last bastion of clean air where the jobs are still plentiful. If my wife and I could leave together, I would be gone tommorow. If you must come to China, do not choose Guangzhou or Shenzhen as places to look for women, all you will find is spoiled tarts. Xinjiang is the place to hit if you are looking for quality, more specifically Urumqi. Look man, if you want to meet a decent woman, you are gonna need to go out into the 'countryside' areas and right now those places are nearly 10 to 1, men to women. My wife is nervous going back to her home town because she says the ratio of men in the town is so high that every woman, even the married girls are getting bombarded with offers 'for a better life'. There is something called a BRIDE PRICE here which is a set amount of money you must pay to 'wed' the woman. Right now the cheapest one is in LANZHOU and that runs for about $10k USD, so as you can imagine, women are beginning to have these enormous entitlement complexes. This is not the China of 10/20 or 30 years ago.

Anyway, if you do decide to come, despite all of this, I can take you to a great pizza place called PIZZA 2 PIZZA. Vacancier Permanent has been there once before already and he can atest to its greatness. [Image: wink.gif]

BW,
I love reading your thoughts and stories about China and specially about GZ.
Which part of GZ are you staying at to have flying coach roaches and multi colored water? Mind you, my experience in China and GZ is minuscule compared to yours as you've been living
There for a while now, but in my very short stay there, I didn't encounter any of the horror stories that keep up on being read about online.

I don't agree that only losers who couldn't make it in their home country are the only ones who come and live in China. Not that it is not true as there is a fair amount if those, but There is an ever growing number of smart and ambitious people, mostly young people, who are leaving the West in looking to capitalize on the endless opportunities present in China and starting a business there.

I guess the type of people you meet depends on the circles you gravitate around. In my very short time in GZ, I met guys who were doing and achieving very inspiring things in China. Building businesses in a variety of fields.

Just through Nick & Tim from the Elevator Life, I was introduced to their friends and network and these contained some of the smartest and most successful entrepreneurs I've met anywhere. From a former Nike Exec who started his own very successful shoe company, to big time local real estate developpers, to diplomats, to club owners, a major tea company owner, to big shot international law specialist, to a guy killing it exporting women accessories to his native country of Azerbaijan. Not to mention the obligatory models from Russia, Colombia, Japan, Mongolia, Colombia, Brasil and of course Chinese who were rotating around us all night in the VIP room of a brand new club.

My point is that who you meet depends largely on the people you frequent and the circles you are part of. As i told you when i was there, Get in touch with Tim & Nick, they are very friendly and cool, go have a drink with them and pick heir brains and go party with them. It will blow your mind. You will get exposed to a totally different universe than that of broke English teachers and other old sex pats "losers" and of flying cockroaches and multi colored water.

Regarding the usefulness of learning Chinese or not, if I were the Chinese government, I'd adopt a Putin like policy of making it a basic mandatory requirement to any foreigner who lives in China to learn the language. Vacationing is one thing but living, a totally different thing. Not only not making an effort not to learn the local lingo is a major form of disrespect to the host country, but it makes your life there tremendously harder. This is true anywhere but even more so in a country like China where the language barrier for non speakers is infinitely higher than elsewhere.

When I see immigrants here in Canada who have been living here for 10-20 years and they can hardly speak any English it pisses me off as these people are not respecting their host country. It's basic courtesy and decency to respect the host and their rules. When you go to someone's house, you behave properly and respect them. Same thing when moving to a new country. Heck, I'm an immigrant myself in Canada who since moving here, I've learned 2 languages: English and Québécois. LOL so all in all, anyone living in China and not learning or making an effort not to learn Chinese is making themselves a huge disservice by limiting and restricting their own experience and quality of their life there.

Yeah that pizza place is dope! Is it still open? I've rarely seen so much variety anywhere! Delicious pizza and very reasonably priced! We'd have to go back there when I return there in the fall man!

To the guy inquiriying about options in GZ, check my thread from my time there:

theyd never make mandarin a requirement for two main reasons: it would reduce the number 9f people willing and capable of going and it would hurt a really nice translation sector if they were unnecessary

Vs BKK your foreigner value is so much highrer in SZ or GZ, and the female to male ratio in sz and gz is amazing. Fully agree with BW that the canto people are the worst (maybe anywhere in the world outside India) but the beauty if this province is that 70% of the people come from other regions in China, ie are either 1st ir 2nd gen imigrants looking to meet new people, ofter living alone at a young age as their're students in a big city, which mKes things so much easier for us... And while there are the 18y old dudes taking their chix to the club in their aventador ( 2 outside the club yesterday ), there are sooo many girls it just doesn't mater.

I might be a little bias I just found that my roof is caving in because of black mold and we have to locate another apartment. No matter how clean you are, I guarntee, you'll have problems because more than likely your Chinese neighbours are pigs.. mine certainly are. I have one lady who at night lights fires in the hallway to ward off the evil demons (probably all her dead family members). I have another on the other side who throws her trash right into the hallway, no bags, nothing, just fruit pieces and meat right into the hallway....

I kind of disagree with you on this one VP, its best not to know the language in China if you are going to be living here long term. Eventually the culture will wear you down, if I had even a little bit of fluent Chinese, I'd be giving lectures all day and yelling at people on the subway. I guarntee I'd already be in jail, sometimes I try and tone it down but for the 5th time when you see somebody's stupid kid running up and down the aisles on the subway screaming their head off (while its moving), you just want to throttle the parents. I also call fat people/scratch that, ANY people out when they are EATING ON THE SUBWAY. There are 5 pictures placed visibly in every single segment, right beside the door ways and they clearly illustrate DO NOT FVKIN PUT THAT IN YOUR MOUTH. People cannot wait 10 seconds, instead you have a bunch of fat pigs mowing down on burgers and fries, spilling grease and ketchup everywhere. KFC is seriously nauseating when its being downed by a 300 pound ricearoni. And the look they give you when you call them out in Chinese is just priceless... usually I find they will throw some sort of tantrum or fit... it takes them about 10 to 15 seconds to respond but they yell in like 10 second intervals... they lash out because they've been doing it since they were children and nobody has ever had the balls to tell them not to.

I wrote about this before but if you don't know the culture, no amount of language is going to help you. You have to understand the fundamental rule in China, you are not under any circumstances, supposed to acknowledge someone elses blatant stupidity or CHEATING. So people are jumping ahead of you in the line and you tell them to get back? The entire line is giving you the stink eye and now you've just become the perp for making people aware of their own idiocy. The honey moon period in China only lasts about 2 years or until you get your fill of pvssy, then you wake up and realize just how bad things are.

BTW another thing I was discussing with a friend... chinese people at least here in gz are getting FAAAAAT. Where the hell did this come from??? I count more fat and obese men and women now than I have ever seen in Canada or Mexico... every third or fourth person is a fat guy or girl. I see China becoming the next America within 5 years. I think you guys are gonna lose the war on fat shaming if this ever becomes a 'thing' in China.

There is no law against lying or cheating here btw and there is no way any foreigner will ever win against a local in court, so no matter what your grievance, business or otherwise, you are looking at a total loss. Just think of the possibilities.

The real reasons not to come here, we are not allowed to post on the net. I need to get the hell out of here man.

If you are into the Chinese look, consider Vietnam, SK, Japan, and Taiwan for example.

Yeah I know. I just can't make up my mind. I've checked into jobs in many Latin American countries and the salaries there are bad. Girls wise Latin America for sure, but I also looked into Asia and they have higher salaries there than in LA. So i'm stuck between hot latina girls or bigger salary[Image: undecided.gif]

You should also consider the relative cost of living in the places your considering. For example the wages in chIna might be 400 per week for part time work but the cost of a decent apartment you can estimate at 700 or so per month. Alternatively yout can teach in phnom penh and make the same 400 per week I believe and the cost of a decent apartment is probably half of that in china. Check on the relative costs of living somewhere and perhaps work that into your equation (as well as the intangibles of life in each place)
