Dick's 315 Names in Spanish

Spanish is spoken in a great part of the world and, while countries where Spanish is spoken as main language have this common language to let people understand each other, the cultures of these countries vary greatly. How Spanish is spoken and even written also varies. While Spanish as a language is often thought as monolitic, it is not. There is the "high" language Spanish, which is more-or-less standardized by the Academia Real in Spain - this more-or-less synthetic language is what makes people think of "Spanish" as one language.

Spain as we know it today is a union of various kingdoms which previously existed on the Iberian peninsula and which are today mostly delimited as the provinces of Spain. Each of these kingdoms had their own language which continue existing to this day. If you go to Madrid, you'll hear something resembling academy Spanish on the street. If you go to Barcelona you mostly won't understand shit because what is spoken there is not "Spanish" but Catalán, one of the several members of the Spanish language family. The most distant member of this family of languages is Portuguese (of which there are 2 variants), which is not considered to be Spanish proper, yet still, if you go to Huelva in the south-west or to some parts of Extremadura, what you'll hear resembles Spanish as much as Portuguese. As a side note, the people of Catalunya have never really liked that much being part of Spain, they were more-or-less forcefully "integrated" and there are strong and continuous secession attempts at all levels. This represents a major problem for the rest of Spain as this province alone is responsible for keeping the whole of Spain economically viable. My thinking is that the Catalanes are those people in the Iberian peninsula who have were most able to keep to European traditions through the 800 years of moorish occupation (and consequent deracination) and as consequence are the people most able to shoot straight - the rest of Spain is "latino" in varying greater degrees, where such things as being "macho" - a misguided understanding of maleness in latino cultures - and having attitude trump objective thinking and quality in what you do - which is the chasm between European and Arabic/Moosleem cultures.

The most widely spoken member of the Spanish language family is Castellano. This is what is spoken in different national variants through the Americas. The name derives from Castilla, one of those olden kingdoms from where most of the initial conquistadores originated, it was nort-west of Madrid and is today part of the province Castilla y León.

You can see a map of Spain's provinces here.

Language is an important part of any culture, as it not only allows one to communicate with the peoples living in a given culture, but also allows one to understand what concepts are important to people and what motivates them. People will tend to create specialized vocabulary around what they do: hunters have a specialized language or "jargon" in German-speaking countries, many professions such as the IT profession have their own languages, Eskimos have many words for "snow" and "white", etc.

Perhaps the most important activity of humans is mating, but strangely there are not so much words around this activity outside of the vernacular, in any language. In German, my main language, as well as in English, I would perhaps be able to find 20 words for either penis or vagina, and perhaps not even that much for the sexual act. A significant part of that vocabulary comes from the medical industry, and the part which does not mostly has a "sleazy" connotation to it, perhaps due to the cultural influence of female hysteria around this theme.

Spanish appears to be different in this respect. There are many words used everyday for everything around sex, and many of these words do not necessarily have a "sleazy" connotation. Rather, it is fun to speak about sex in Spanish.

Anyway, as a reflection of the vast and varied cultural richness of the Spanish-speaking world at large, I've put together a list of names for the Penis a.k.a Dick which I've pulled from around the Internet. You could use them to impress your Spanish-speaking conquests or just to show your latino-friends that you are conversant in Spanish, and for people who already speak Spanish, to enhance your cultural horizon :-)

Without further ado, here is the list:

Joder!

"The whole point of being alpha, is doing what the fuck you want.
That's why you see real life alphas without chicks. He's doing him.

Real alphas don't tend to have game. They don't tend to care about the emotional lives of the people around them."

This reminds me of a funny Penn And Teller joke:
