Workout buddy?

Workout buddy?

Guise,
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to find a workout buddy. I'd like to find someone my age or somewhat close, but all my friends either don't work out, go to far away gyms, or are too lazy. Any ideas? I think it'd add an extra boost to my workouts.

Thanks!

Make a habit of going to the Gym at the same time everyday and you will run into same people everyday, Small talk , ask for a spot, give a spot and you have few friends at the Gym.

Much better to have people who are serious about workouts to accompany you then friends who do half ass workouts.

Which is why it is often more practical working out solo.

A motivated workout buddy can have a motivating effect on your own workout, and vice-verca, however, long term (if you're serious about life long health through lifting) you're best off setting your own goals, and staying the course on your own, making yourself accountable.

You want an extra boost to your workouts? - glance over at the dood that lifts more and looks better than you. Always works for me.

Working out with others can also be distracting/inhibiting, as you inevitably end up shooting the shit more than necessary. You're also reliant on each other being as committed as each other to attend each session - which can prove problematic.

Unless you're both lifting the same weight for each exercise, workouts can tend to take longer too. Spotting, although nice on a bench to hit that failure point, is also over-rated and unnecessary for the average person. Drop sets will achieve the same result, which is effectively what you're doing when getting assistance.

No one really similar to me at the gym, mostly older people. Anyone with potential comes at random times.

Looking back a workout buddy has always done more harm than good

You really don't need a workout partner, but if you want one, you could just do what I did.

I worked out by myself for a long time and got in pretty good shape. People would ask me about what gym I went to, what routines I had, nutrition etc. I have had a bunch of people want to go to the gym with me but I've only had three workout partners. I chose them because they were serious about lifting and knew what they were doing. They had been working out on their own as well and they didn't have a desperate vibe.

Also, aside from one, they were bigger than me which helped me get bigger because I was trying to match the weight that they would put up.

Soo, just workout by yourself, get in good shape, people will come to you and you can pick who you want to workout and chill with.

I find with workout buddies I end up talking a lot more than I should, which means less productive workouts.

For me what is most productive is working out on my own, getting a spot for 1-2 sets if I ever need it from someone nearby, and leaving the part where you catch up with buddies for after the gym over a drink or some food.
