Canada cripples own postal service

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/12/world/....html?_r=0

Despite free health care, Canada continues to suck a dick with virtually all other public services. Upon coming the the US and year later I am continually surprised at how much I can get for paying less in taxes. Lets take the postal service for example. Flat rate boxes, postal service to your door, postal outlets everywhere, saturday delivery.

Compare this to Canada. It sucked before but get a load of their new plan. 85 cent stamps, community mailbox banks (which is a small PO box barely able to hold a day's worth of mail) and brutal postal outlets.

Imagine walking 3 blocks, in bullshit winter, to your outdoor mail postal box, to find a slip that says you have a package, which you can pickup at the postal outlet that is a 10 minute drive away, 2 days from now when they re-process it. You then proceed to stand in line at the shitty postal outlet for a half hour to be served by the 1 person working there.....and now they want 85 cents for a stamp.

America cannot invade soon enough.

It's really too bad that Canada post got taken over by English Communists in the 70s. I realize this sounds wild, but according to both my parents - who are not at all prone to conspiracy theories, say it is true.

I looked on the union website

Doesn't look too extreme... But I believe they cleaned up their image after the postal strike a year or two ago. Journalists in the NP and G&M wrote about their diatribes against Israel and the Zionist conspiracy.

Holy cow.... The Union taking positions on Palestine is way out there http://www.cupw.ca/index.cfm/ci_id/14413/la_id/1.htm and there's no way it can be supported by general membership or even known about by the average postal worker. Most postal workers I've met are white old ladies who just want to go home and watch coronation street or dudes i went to high school whose lives revolve around beer and hockey but there could be some characters once you get off of the field positions and into the policy and office jobs.

Good job finding that bit. The site is cleaner than it used to be.
