Anyone here read Manga?

If one wanted to get into Ghost in the Shell coherently, where does one start? I hear there are multiple series and 3 movies.

There are four continuities the manga series, the Stand Alone Complex continuity, the earlier movies, and the new ARISE series which is a sort of prequel.

Eh, I'd say start with SAC. It's the best one and probably the easiest to follow.

Really anything Masamune Shirow does is good as well.

Also a series I forgot to mention for the thread: Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. We all likely saw it when we were young (if you're in your 20's at the moment), but watching it when you're older makes you appreciate it more.

Great storyline and characters. Treize Khushrenada in particular is a character that any man should want to emulate.

The only one I ever read was Berserk. Everything else seems like typical anime hermaphrodite stuff to me.

Vinland Saga is a pretty fun read

Has a interesting feel to it, don't want to give any spoilers,

It's about the story of Thorfinn and his life as a Viking and after,

Great Artwork, Violent, Engaging, later thought provoking as Thorfinn makes transitions in his life.

Actually just realized no one mentioned SLAM DUNK?

If you are a basketball fan you have to read this or watch the anime, either one!

^^He has always been he most alpha character IMO

Anyone One Piece fans in here?

I am very curious if we will get to see a Doflamingo vs Luffy fight or at least a 1 on 1 battle. It seems that Luffys attacks are too big and slow. Doffy would shred Luffy.

Started getting back into One Piece, not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

The Luffy versus Lucci fight is still one of the most epic fights ever. I liked Lucci's character a lot seemed pretty alpha, untill he gets his ass kicked

Recently finished watching first season of Attack On Titan on Netflix, it definitely lived up to the hype, I can't wait for season 2.

Also watched Akira, really enjoyed the art and the epic feel of it (I can't imagine how amazing that must have been when it first came out) but personally it didn't live up to the hype in terms of the story. It seemed all over the place at times and just got too weird and gross towards the end.

Yea Attack on titan is still pretty dope, I know its gonna be a while before the second season drops, I was surprised at the revelation of the other titan shifters. I won't say obviously since its a huge spoiler.

Even though Akira is a dope film a lot was left/changed from the manga thats why its so incoherent.

Last few anime I have been watched are

Kill La Kill which is beyond epic, It was made by the people who left Gainax. Gainax made shows like Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gurren lagann.

Fate Zero,The new Fate Stay Night anime, Tokyo Ghoul, and also an anime called Terra Formars.

Oh also a new naruto manga is coming out,It will not be written Masashi Kishimoto though.

For all you Naruto die hard fans there is excellent news for you. Naruto will be getting a part 3. However, before you jump on your parade float, sit back and here the fine print. The series will be relatively shorter than the main series and won’t be written by Masashi Kishimoto the original author of the Naruto Manga. Instead the series will be written by Akira Higashiyama, the scriptwriter Naruto Shippuden Movie 5 – Blood Prison. Think Dragon Ball GT, only with better writing.

This series will take place several years after the events of Shippuden and the current timeline in the manga, and also even further past the upcoming Naruto ‘The Last’ Movie timeline. It will center on the kids of Naruto’s generation. There have been released images rumored to reference this time skip or the upcoming chapters in the manga, but since they have been unconfirmed they could simply be fan art. But come on, this is totally legit. I wasn’t an advocate for getting a Part 3 of Naruto, but if it focuses more on new ninja and we get to see the original ninja now fully grown in the peripheral, that I can get behind.

I'd probably love it if I was in Japan. Here in Croatia, it's usually beloved by hipsters, SJW-s and other weird/unsavory people who have permanently soured it for me.

I had a strong affinity for Dragonball Z when I was a kid (as I suspect most in this thread did) - every day at 5:30pm after school on Cartoon Network.

Even now I still listen to clips when I'm working out in the gym:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH_CcJ-uBWI
Those screams at 3:50 really get me going on the treadmill.

From that I became aware of anime and mange at large.
Several years ago I was given a copy of .hack: Legend of the Twilight and it appealed to me as having elements from the Matrix interwoven with the main narrative.
Unfortunately it suffers from the staple cliches of friendship helping to overcome adversity and the power of belief bla bla bla.
The anime adaptation was faithful for the most part but as seems standard suffered from horrible ending syndrome.

One series that I enjoyed reading was Death Note.
It's got quite a large following and was recommended by several friends.
I absolutely adored the moral ambiguity as the series progressed. The protagonist develops a not-so-acute case of megalomania but for the most part I found myself agreeing with the majority of his reasoning and arguments. True, his implementation was sometimes flawed and in some cases tricky to follow, but was nevertheless compelling.
It reminds me of the ROK article about how we always root for the villain.

However, I don't find much time for either these days.
After having attended comic conventions I found that there's a veritable library of titles of indulge in and weeks that can be lost watching series.

If I'm suggested something by lots of people that's verified as the greatest thing since sliced bread I'll give it a try, but I prefer to put my time towards something a little more productive like exercising or work.

I personally have not read a single Japanese comic book series.

In Japan, "manga" is a catch-all term for comic books; yes, even your trademark superhero ones.

Yeah, I think I should've mentioned this before.

Heero has game.

Relena was coddled constantly by everyone and had orbiters (men and women) left and right. She didn't care. It was boring to her and her life had no meaning.

Along comes this new guy on the block that looks dangerous and does not give a fuck about anybody or anything, including himself. Relena gets drawn in like an ant to sugar.

He mellows out over the course of the series but he still has that alpha frame. Relena loves it.

I'd recommend Tower of god or Tokyo ghoul manga. The latter's anime production is off the charts, some scenes will literally have you questioning your own outlook on life.

Too bad tokyo's ghoul anime production stopped right when the main character becomes a badass, However there apparently will be a second season
