FB arguments on ROK article on duke lacrosse case

I recently posted the ROK article on the duke lacrosse rape case on face book with a small disclaimer. previous articles had been met with pretty rabid backlash as is to be expected I thought it would be fun to post what has so far transpired.

one guy had this to say.

I remember this case vividly; this article is great and insightful. Great read, Russ.

then we hear from this one

I would like to know what research you did to follow through with any kind of legitimacy of this article. What is his obsession with rape? Does he ever write about something important? Like, actual statistics on the amount of rape that goes on throughout the whole entire world on a daily basis. Oh wait, I guess that is just made up stuff. Out to get the white man... And what evidence do you need for "forcible rape"? Once again he obviously hates women. Oh the horror white men must face day to day. So tortured and unjustly accused. This kind of false information breeds nothing but hate and allows men to to act any way the want with a woman. It reduces the amount of suffering and pain women have gone through and shows complete lack of empathy. It's crap.

to which I replied

I hear you Erin. I figured you would be quick to be vocal and i commend you for that. Alright my follow up was on the Durham county prosecutor and the alleged victim.(one was disbarred the other was later convicted of murder and sentenced to 14 years and 2 months) This article if Im not mistaken and i might be is by a different writer also. Now at ROK there is a culture of there being a blurred line between forcible rape/sodomy and out right fabricating incidence of rape this article is the first I've seen to take a stab at the Duke case which tarnished the names of an entire lacross team many of who were not even present at the seen of the alleged crime. Now my passion for literature like this leans more on the right side of the pendulum and I've seen it first hand on numerous occasions in my career. A girl goes out in port gets drunk with a couple guys then gets caught in a fan room by the ships rover with a good looking guy who is equally intoxicated and all the sudden its like "oh my god where am I?" "I believe Im being raped." A girl finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her and tell security that she was raped by her ex boy friend, doesn't do a rape kit and sends them to her former love nest to find DNA evidence that sex had occurred. And because this is running long lastly while in Marseille my liberty buddy was accused of of sexual assault by a girl who got pissed out of her tree, was hanging from him like a baby chimp, loved the guy to death for about 5 days but, when he offended her sincabilitis by telling her to get out of a space so it could be stripped and waxed all the sudden and I mean this as absolute truth she accused him of touching not groping but touching her ass. A move of absolute spite. He could have been kicked out and labled a sex offender because some girl who was all about my boy at the time got mad because he used a stern voice at a later time. I testified on his behalf at his hearing. The case was dismissed. I hope on no small part by my efforts. All this to say. Rape is a horrible crime. There is a special room in Hell for perverts and pedos but imagine if these 3 boys had gone to prison. 3 innocent kids would have been beaten, raped and more than likely murdered because they didn't want the services of a vindictive woman. How many people does that happen to? I don't know the answer but i don't think that a lynch mob for anyone accused is the right one. All I know after learning what I've learned over time is I can absolutely under no circumstance approach a woman i work with and now i have to pay attention while at social events and when treatened, take cover on the floor in the fetal position with my hands over my head sreaming "Im not raping you, Im not raping you". I fear for my triumphant return to the states to see what my country has become. Maybe ill do another 5 years abroad after these 3. I hope I've made a bit of my case knowing well that you have your convictions and that typing this fb response with a smartphone really isn't the appropriate forum to have this debate but those are my feelings and that's my evidence. Please forgive any typographical and grammatical errors but due note that unlike the people who right the articles that i read i can have a calm and articulate discussion with out resorting to slander and name calling. I would also be interested in hearing counter arguments and having the liberty of responding to them.

and in response to the first post

At the time i was seeing a girl from NC state so this was a huge deal when i went down there. The two cities were torn on a racial, and social divide. The social part is another issue. Your from Boston. Tell me how many people go to Harvard, MIT, and Boston college on scholarship and with the assistance of enormous loans? 20%, 30% 40%? Am i getting warm? Were there privileged kids on that across team? Undeniably. Now imagine if that whole team got railroad on the agenda of corrupt da's and law enforcement. I belive truth still would have won the day but at what expense. The first thing to go would have been the scholarships. Then the incurred debt from legal defence. All because a woman wanted to be paid to drive a couple miles only to find out that she didn't cut the mustard? When i sold e-cigs on like could you imagine me saying "i broke out my kit. You dint want my product but you still owe me a minimum charge for my efforts even though no change took place?" id be out of business by sun down. When i did laundry back in the airman days a guy ran up a $25 tab and then made a complaint that my services weren't up to snuff. I knew my services were at a premium level so i cut my losses and refused to do business with him from then on. I didn't trump up a rape case on him. Am i making since here?

Let me know what you guys think. Did I miss anything? What could have made my arguments stronger?

Yeah I think i'm done posting shit on FB....ppl get way too emotional and put words in other's mouths, or just wanna air their own prejudices, I've set off some 100+ comment posts before.

Had a guy recently, who's in law school, say that false rape accusations were an "imaginary problem" and since men do better financially, they don't need someone trying to defend them.

There's no reason to put this kind of stuff on Facebook. Anything but the most abject white knight boot licking drivel gets the white knights out with their torches and pitchforks.

Stick to upworthy and buzzfeed stuff, it'll get you plenty of likes and supportive comments. (Edit: funny, my autocorrect corrected upworthy to unworthy)

I actually got more props on the article than hate but it's fun to watch feminist and manginas get all wound up over this stuff. So far one of the strongest opposition arguments has been that the points that are being made are invalid because of the language that was used. I'm curious if the "I have a dream" speech would have been invalidated if there had been a big fat F-bomb in the middle of it? "Oh, he makes a lot of good points but minus 10 because he used an unacceptable term."

The actor in the Duke case that has consistently refused to apologize for maligning the lacrosse players was the female "journalist" mentioned in the article.

Her Twitter account was linked in the article, and I invited her to respond, but of course she declined and buried me with silence.

That's how it goes. The media gets behind something and if their preferred out come happens then they'll stick with it to the end. Had they gone to prison the cameras would have followed them till the cells went clink. So what if it goes the other way? Well all I know is that one day I just stopped hearing about it.
At the time I was spending nearly every weekend down in Raleigh so this struck a cord with me thanks for putting it out and letting people know what really happened after the cameras went dark. a hand full of my buddies appreciated it too. keep em coming.
