In light of his upcoming death - would it be okay if Teedub donates his rep points to me?

Is my Liver damaged/swollen from alcohol?

^ Hahaha I wish I hadn't made this thread now. People are either thinking I'm about to die or that I'm a hypochondriac!

And yes, you may have my rep points. But...only if you write the following article for RoK:

Yeah I've stopped as of yesterday (apart from weekends/dates - but on dates just one or two, which to be fair, I already did) just needed a scare that's all. It's not that it was interrupting my social life though, so that's why I wasn't addressing it. No more smoking either. I had planned to pack it in for a while, but BB's non-drinking posts plus this thing yesterday just brought it forward.

Perhaps in future I may give it up altogther, but for now, I'm jusy breaking the habit of doing it weekdays.

I am trying to go teetotal. But mainly to save money and stop random binges.

I actually think the health dangers of excessive drinking are exaggerated. Every couple of weeks the bin men come round and pick up the plastic boxes filled with recyclable glass bottles. The amount of drinking the average houshold does is pretty remarkable. At least round where I live.

The thing about health dangers is that they tend to know about five years off your life when you are old. So instead of dying at 85 you might die at 80. Big deal. Just less money you need to save for your retirement.

Not really. I've spent a lot of time in vet clubs and watched the long term effects of alcohol/smoking. Guys I've seen straight up die was drinking between a case and a full handle of vodka daily. Not eating was another common factor. Script pain pills may have played into it also.

Others I've seen go out was due to diabetes, leading to gangrene, or liver and lung damage that led to massive heart failure.

Always eat a healthy meal before drinking, try not to go full bore while doing it, and, if possible, quit an hour before bedtime, and put down some water and a light snack. This will also curb the hangover.

Yeah I've got a few fitness goals, specifically boxing related - so this was going to have to stop anyway. I wouldn't mind having an amateur fight at the back end of next year (not sure how that's going to work as I won't be in England, but hey). I used to train at an amateur gym, doing sparring and padwork etc - but never actually competed and it's always bugged me. This was in my late teens/early twenties though. The fact my brother was on his University boxing team has also motivated me.

I come from a family of fairly big drinkers, in the 'bottle of wine a night' middle class sense. My parents seem fine, albeit with the odd bout of high blood pressure! I've just had a rough few months I think, where a few bottles (of beer, not wine!) a few times a week turned into more and I scared myself.

I've had this off and on also, so I know what you mean.

I had a livers function test one time a few years ago and everything came up fine. But the thing is, if you are drinking recently, your numbers will show a problem. If you take a break from drinking, the numbers will go back to normal, but that doesn't mean your liver is healthy.

There is a product I like from Life Extension called something like Anti Alcohol Antioxidants. I think it's good.

A good standardized milk thistle supplement is also something to try.

I also had a problem where it felt like my spleen area was swollen and wierd feeling. I started taking dandelion root for something unrelated (for a diuretic effect), and after a couple of weeks the spleen feeling went away. But dandelion root is also good for the liver.

Are you taking any vitamins? I would try to pump for body full of antioxidants etc, stay hydrated, eat plenty of protein and take some additional supplements.

BUT more importantly, you've got to try and take a break from alcohol for a few days every so often, at a minimum.

Inspired, I've knocked the daily drinking on the head. It was only bad for a few months and I haven't had a drop or a cigarette since Saturday night. I'm buying one of those e-cigs before the Xmas holiday period as I don't even want to smoke when I go out anymore. I only smoke when I drink. Been drinking a few cups of green tea etc a day to flush myself out.

I think the feeling I had was actually a muscle niggle or something, but it gave me a little shock to force my hand.

No homo, but the Twinings green tea with 'whatever' range is awesome. I've got about twenty different varietys at the yard, they're all good except the green tea and jasmine which tastes like you'd expect. Like chewing a houseplant really.

Props on dropping the drinking. I hate to sound sanctimonious but 6 tins of 5% would see me very merry and probably wasn't doing much for your health being consumed nightly.

All of this sounds terrible. I have had some nights were I've drunk more than what was wise, but I can't imagine drinking so much that my liver is literally sore for several days afterwards. You guys should probably take my man card. You deserve it more than I do.

^ Nothing manly about being sore from drinking. It was a wake up call, that whilst sensationalist was nevertheless needed.
