TIME

Ignore the concept of time. It doesn't exist. Time is a man made measurment. (Google it)

I don't beleive in age. The number means nothing to me.

"They" say the earth goes around the sun every 365 days and we are supposed to add another year to our age every time. I choose not to participate in that measurement system.

That might sound funny but I know that this strategy helps me a lot. My mind does not awknowledge or process the years 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, etc. That type of measuring system carries to many expectations, beleifs, and cultural conditioning.

I use my own mearsuring system. If I can still pull college girls, I am young. When I can no longer do that, I will re-evaluate my "age".

That how I measure.

This was my favorite part of your post Gio.

I often daydream about what pre-agricultural men were like. Of a time before calendars and GPS, when men were very much in tune with nature. They were no doubt aware that time passed in cycles and they must have been very in tune with the weather, with migrations of wildlife and herd animals, with the stars, the positioning of the sun and moon.

Humans went from stargazing to T.V.
Telling stories in front of a campfire to sitting by themselves in front of a computer.
Hunting wild animals to buying food in a fluorescent bulb saturated grocery store with currency that represents his time spent laboring

I don't want to over-romanticize the past or be a naysayer on the modern lifestyle, but I think it's important for every guy to stay in touch with the wild part deep inside himself. We used to hunt in packs like wolves.

Avoid unnecessary stress (giving your penis a happy and varied happy helps with this).

Drink more water (a quart before every meal, piss clear 7-10 times per day).

If you see fruit, eat it and lots of it (but not if you're a lazy sedentary type).

Moisturize (don't go for the $100 Loreal Hydro X-Menergiste, a cheap one will do).

Propecia (my father uses it, it works. Balding at 57, reversed it, now 60 and women think he's in his early 40s).

Tread cautiously with Propecia. I tried it for a bit in my mid-30s, and it numbed feelings in my penis. I was still able to get aroused, but it didn't feel quite the same, and took me a long time to bust a nut. Sometimes so long that I would poop out first. It muted some of the pleasure of sex. I've read horror stories where even after guys stopped taking it, the sexual side effects continued on.

Take care of those titties for me.

Use propecia, been on it a long time and it works great. No problems, no side effects. They have it generic now.

Teeth whitening. People's teeth yellow as they age, so white teeth is a signal of youth.

You can use the whitening strips available at any drug store. Also whitening toothpaste helps.

Lay off the tea and coffee (my own advice I don't follow).

A nice healthy looking tan (from spray tanning) combined with white teeth is a good signal of health, vitality, and youthfulness.

Where do you go for the spray tanning? I tried a place on Polk and Vallejo for regular tans, but I'm not doing my skin any favors with that.

I found this book and I am about to read it. Its about managing your energy, not time, or output, etc. The main point is that energy is your most important asset, and managing it well is probably the best thing you can do;

Please don't go for spray tanning - it always looks fake. Just get a bit of time in the sun and don't overdo it.

Scientists believe the common diabetes drug metformin could hold the secret of long life and want to start a groundbreaking human trial in 2016

The world’s first anti-ageing drug will be tested on humans next year in trials which could see diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s consigned to distant memory.

Scientists now believe that it is possible to actually stop people growing old as quickly and help them live in good health well into their 110s and 120s.

Although it might seem like science fiction, researchers have already proven that the diabetes drug metformin extends the life of animals, and the Food and Drug Administration in the US has now given the go ahead for a trial to see if the same effects can be replicated in humans.

If successful it will mean that a person in their 70s would be as biologically healthy as a 50 year old. It could usher in a new era of ‘geroscience’ where doctors would no longer fight individual conditions like cancer, diabetes and dementia, but instead treat the underlying mechanism – ageing.

Scottish ageing expert Professor Gordon Lithgow of the Buck Institute for Research on Ageing in California, is one of the study advisors.

“If you target an ageing process and you slow down ageing then you slow down all the diseases and pathology of ageing as well,” he said “That’s revolutionary. That’s never happened before.

“I have been doing research into ageing for 25 years and the idea that we would be talking about a clinical trial in humans for an anti-ageing drug would have been though inconceivable.

“But there is every reason to believe it’s possible. The future is taking the biology that we’ve now developed and applying it to humans. 20 years ago ageing was a biological mystery. Now we are starting to understand what is going on.”

Anti-ageing is a whole industry - that even includes a gadget or two
Growing older does not have to bring ill health and frailty Alamy

Ageing is not an inevitable part of life because all cells contain a DNA blueprint which could keep a body functioning correctly forever. Some marine creatures do not age at all.

However over our lifetime billions of cell divisions must occur to keep our bodies functioning correctly and the more times cells divide the more errors creep into the process. As cell problems grow, the body can no longer repaid damage. In the case of cancer, cells no longer have the ability to get rid of mutations, and tumours grow. In Alzheimer’s the brain stops clearing out sticky plaques, and dementia develops.

Scientists think the best candidate for an anti-ageing drug is metformin, the world’s most widely used diabetes drug which costs just 10p a day. Metformin increases the number of oxygen molecules released into a cell, which appears to boost robustness and longevity.

When Belgian researchers tested metformin on the tiny roundworm C.elegans the worms not only aged slower, but they also stayed healthier longer. They did not slow down or develop wrinkles. Mice treated with metformin increased their lifespan by nearly 40 per cent and their bones were also stronger. Last year Cardiff University found that when patients with diabetes were given the drug metformin they in fact lived longer than others without the condition, even though they should have died eight years earlier on average.

The new clinical trial called Targeting Aging with Metformin, or TAME, is scheduled to begin in the US next winter. Scientists from a range of institutions are currently raising funds and recruiting 3,000 70 to 80 year olds who have, or are risk of, cancer, heart disease and dementia. They are hoping to show that drug slows the ageing process and stops disease.

Outlining the new study on the National Geographic documentary Breakthrough: The Age of Ageing, Dr Jay Olshansky, of the University of Illinois Chicago, said: “If we can slow ageing in humans, even by just a little bit it would be monumental. People could be older, and feel young.

“Enough advancements in ageing science have been made to lead us to believe it’s plausible, it’s possible, it’s been done for other species and there is every reason to believe it could be done in us.

“This would be the most important medical intervention in the modern era, an ability to slow ageing.”

Metformin
Metformin could hold the key to ageing well

A baby girl born today is now expected to life to an average age of 82.8 years and a boy to 78.8 years, according to the Office for National Statistics. But if the results seen in animals are reproduced in humans, lifespan could increase by nearly 50 per cent.

Professor Lithgow believes that, in the future, young people may be given a type of ageing ‘vaccine’ to slow down ageing. He believes it could have a far bigger impact on extending population lifespan that finding a cure for cancer.

“If we were to cure all cancers it would only raise life expectancy by around three years, because something else is coming behind the cancer, but if we could slow down the ageing process you could dramatically improve how long people can live,” he said.

“We know that it is possible for handfuls of people to live to very old age and still be physically and socially active, so clearly they carry some kind of protection in their bodies. They are essentially not ageing as quickly. If we can harness that, then everyone can achieve those lifespans.”

Yet scientists have faced an uphill battle to get trial approval because there are so many spurious claims of ‘anti-ageing’ technologies and therapies on the market.

Stephanie Lederman, executive director of the American Federation for Aging Research in New York, who is also involved in the trial added: “The perception is that we are all looking for a fountain of youth.

“We want to avoid that; what we’re trying to do is increase health span, not look for eternal life.”

However if their trial performs as promised, experts say slowing ageing would be a ‘public health revolution.’

Dr Robert Temple, deputy director of the FDA said: “Their hope is that a wide variety of age related problems, loss of muscle tone, dizziness, falls, dementia, loss of eyesight, all of those things.

“That would be something never done before. If you really are doing something to alter ageing the population of interest is everybody. It surely would be revolutionary if they can bring it off.”

Dr Simon Melov of the Buck Institute for Ageing Research added: “You’re talking about developing a therapy for a biological phenomenon which is universal and gives rise to all of these diseases. And if you’ve got a therapy for this thing, these diseases just go away.”

Awesome tips thanks everyone for contributing.

I have a huge hang up concerning sleeping though...

If I have my way (and rest) I would need 9 hours of sleep.

IMO, thats a lot of time wasted. Compared that to the people who sleep 6 hours, that's 1/8 part of my life I'm "wasting".

So say I will look 5 years younger than most people, but this is a zero sum given that I have 1/8 part of my life compared to them I'm not using.

I guess its a matter of perspective. Do you want to look 5-10 younger than most people, but with 10% reduced time for each day?

As I understand if you go to sleep same time every day with enough sleep hours before midnight your body should rest better allowing you to sleep less hours.

Both.

My experience tells me that it works.

Science confirms it.

Hydrogonian posted some great scientific research about sleep a few years ago. Its here somewhere. Look it up!

But, don't take my word for it! Try it for yourself..

Earlier sleep is better sleep!

That is a very interesting question!

I look at it like this...

I sleep more than other people, so...

When I am awake, I make sure that I LIVE HARDER than other people.

I walk faster, I work harder, I approach more girls, I play harder, I live with more passion, I have more fun, I do more of what I want and less of what I don't want, I am aggressive, efficient, I workout better, I eat better, I get younger women, etc.

I'm in bed 33% of my life.

The other 66% -- I HAVE TO GO LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER!!!

Again, its a great question..

And, for me, yes, its worth it..

I choose to sleep a little more and have less time to work. It's a balance that works for me. Everyone must find THEIR proper balance.

Sleep, energy, exuberance, and vitality are important to me.

When I don't get quality sleep.. I feel tired, lethargic, slow, dull + I look tired.

I don't feel like a King. I feel like a slave.

I can't live like that.

I fucked up.

I made a mistake.

I allowed anger and rage to get to me.

I hurt a female friend of mine, broke her heart, I also broke my own heart in the process.

In a moment of weakness, stress got the better of me.

I took it out on her.

It bothered me. IT AGED ME!! BECAUSE OF THE SADNESS AND EMOTIONAL TURMOIL, I ACCELERATED MY OWN AGING! I STARTED GETTING GRAY HAIRS, LINES ON MY FACE, ETC!

STRESS, ANGER, PRESSURE, RAGE, SADNESS, UNRESOLVED EMOTIONAL CONFLICT -- THESE THINGS CAN AND WILL AGE YOU PREMATURELY!

Talk about your emotional issues with trusted friends, don't hold it in! Get help, express your needs and wants as a man. Don't hold on to anger and pain. It only hurts you.

Learn from my mistake.

Let go of the hurt in your heart.

It's not worth it.

I'm convinced it makes a difference.

I've really found this to be true for me. Once I got a little beat up in front of a great girl and was absolutely livid. I had unpleasant revenge fantasies for a couple years, it was really hard to start coaching myself "It's not productive to think like this." Maybe 6 months to a year.

It took about two years before I stopped having thoughts of violence, which caused a really disgusting sour adrenaline rush each time.

I learned two important things, or rather confirmed for myself three things I had been told but did not grasp:

1) Revenge is like taking poison and expecting it to hurt the other guy.

2) Holding on to anger is toxic, it can take time and some active effort to defuse it, either communicating with others or doing self-talk.

3) Both revenge and anger are glorified in media , look how pissed off and nasty the two USA Presidential candidates are compared to, say, Reagan and Carter.

Reagan was more polite to the current head of the USSR than Trump and Clinton are to each other. "Mr. Gorbachov, tear down this wall." compared to "Crooked Gorbachev" or "Deplorable Gorbachev" depending on which candidate you favor. As recently as McCain/Obama, when birthers were putting Obama down and Obama's supporters were criticizing McCain, each stood up for the other's basic decency.

I think good genetics are probably the number one factor in anti-aging, but I suppose that should somewhat go without saying. I have a buddy who does a lot of stuff that runs directly against anti-aging strategy, drinks a bunch, dabbles in coke, never wears sun screen, and doesn't always eat the healthiest, yet he's 37 but can easily pass for 30, maybe even late 20's. No one is immune to father time and I think being in the sun a lot w/o sun screen is catching up to him, but overall the guy looks really young for his age, full head of hair, no grey, slim physique, not too many wrinkles, etc. Whereas I see a lot of guys his age that are already bald, super fat and out of shape, or have grey hair, etc.

I will say in the case of my buddy (and to add something constructive to this dialogue), that he is a good example of how not acting your age and allowing societies expectations of acting your age, can in affect make you younger or age more slowly. My friend is single or usually dating a younger girl, no kids, never married/divorced, no debt, and kind of lives a relatively stress free and mellow lifestyle, while acting, dressing, and living the lifestyle of someone much younger than most of his counterparts who are in their late 30's, that may be married/divorced, kids, mortgage, stressful career, etc.

Shit I'm 32 now and if I ever look up old friends on Facebook most are following that script, marriage, kids, career, etc., while I have a mortgage and have some stressors in my life, overall I live much differently than most of my peers, I've traveled the world, spend a lot of time lifting weights, training Muay Thai, and don't have a lot of the responsibilities that the guys with wives, kids, etc.

Not saying one should shun responsibilities their whole life in order to slow down the aging process, but the more stressors you have the more you will age, guys like my friend who mentally think, act, and live younger, will age more gracefully than the guy who has a bitchy wife, 3 kids, and never has time to do anything fun.
