I want to move to NYC

Bust out a data sheet homie!!!I am sure I am not the only one who wants to know how to bang dimes in NYC on a budget.

Houston has a good point here, when you live in NYC your standards just start shooting up.

People who visit NYC usually love it for about 6 months then start bitching about the mean people and the cost of living. So you get this back and forth where some NYC people get sick of it and party less and guys from outside NYC can't believe the talent.

That said if you have good cash flow there is literally no reason to hate on NYC. That's where you see the divergence occur.

Based on the OP if I was in my 30's and didn't have a good/solid job locked in I would probably opt out.

This.

Also, we have to take into consideration that RVF is sorta like a bubble. There are a lot of apex players who post here and that tends to distort what the meaning of the words "average" and "easy" are. You read enough and you think these guys are normal guys when in fact they are outliers. They are the 20% of guys who are fucking the 80% of the chicks out there not the other way around. I know a ton of guys on different income brackets/races who are getting little to no pussy in NYC. The streets are choke full of good looking guys with chicks who look like the White version of "Precious." Most of my married "friends" on facebook are married to warpigs. In order words, NYC fails the "busted dude" test spectacularly.

A newbie in the middle of Zanesville reads all he can here about NYC and gets the impressions that lizards are going to be lining up to suck his cock as soon as he steps out of the Port Authority bus terminal. In Zanesville, he was no Mixx but he was getting his fair share. So he tells his bros "dude, there are a ton of models in the MPD bro." 5 days later he checks out of his hotel with a $500 PPV porn bill cuz of all the jerking off he did.

I have written here for years, fucking at least a 6 consistently(more than 2 times) in NYC is NOTtrivial/easy for the average square plain generic cat. If you have a niche you can have a mini poosy paradise but even that is eventually gonna dry up on ya. Personally, I don't see the appeal of NYC, weather is shitty/unpredictable, expensive, Police are overzealous, high taxes, competition is vicious in non-White clubs, lots of naturals to compete against and alternative side of the street parking sucks major balls.

So it's a winner-take-all city. Is the conclusion therefore that unless you are a high roller in finance (the industry which greases everything else there) you should just stay away?

If only you knew how bad things really are.

Here is the thing, if you're gonna make yourself to be the best possible how are you going to do that playing in the minor leagues? Why would you do this to yourself.

Everyone asks what careers "pay the most per hour" or "maximum benefit for least effort" that's great in the future but until you're old and have earned the right to relax I don't understand the logic.

Go compete with the elite and you'll be better than you were if you stayed competing at your own level.

When you were growing up for those who played sports you know the "right move" was to compete with older guys. This is how you get better. Fish bowls are for people who are practically done with the game.

You should want the challenge.

After you overcome a hard environment everything else is easy for your entire life. Compete with the best or look in the mirror and know you didn't even try to make yourself the best you can be. I can't do that. Therefore go through the struggle.

Well yeah, you can meet good looking girls basically anywhere. Once for example I went to an art opening near Chinatown - the opening was free + free drinks. Chatted up a girl - in my opinion maybe a 8,5. After the opening there was an after party at a bar nearby. Saw the girl from the opening again, talked a bit, started making out and then took a cab home (I was living in Bushwick then and the girl too). Total for the night maybe 30 bucks. Sure, she wasn't a 10, but for my taste she was very good looking - exactly the type I'm into. Some other time I met a girl in the subway and dated her for a while, and then later she introduced me to her friend - a solid 9,5 in my opinion. She used to model for a rather well known New York "erotic" photographer. Ended up dating that girl for about a year. Never spent much money when I was together with her. When I went to bars with her sometimes random guys would give me thumbs up - no joke - that was pretty funny.

As I said, it's not like everyone is rich in New York. There are enough people, especially early / mid 20ies, who are flat out broke. Sure, some good looking girls from that demographic will be hanging out at high end places and have rich guys pay for them - but not all girls are looking for this.

Exactly.

This is how I see life - try to do the best you can and go into the hardest environment - you will grow from it.

I had an advantage in NYC tho, because I am from Switzerland, and that in my opinion is the hardest motherfucking environment on the planet. At least for me and for my personality - other people might see it differently. So for me NYC was actually really easy.

In NYC, you can be as crazy and out there as you want, and girls actually dig it. The worst in NYC in my opinion is to be "normal" and "nice" - that won't get you anywhere. But in Switzerland it's exactly the opposite. I am a pretty crazy guy, so for me NYC was like I could finally be the way I really am and girls actually like it.

Actually these are exactly my thoughts right now.

I can also understand the alternative perspective, which is perhaps to find a niche for yourself in a more lifestyle-based city.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

Might help to know what industry you're in.

FYI Andrew Kevin Walker was primarily influenced by his unhappy times living in NYC when writing Se7en, one of the most nihilistic and misanthropic films I've ever watched. If you've never seen it, it is a truly dark movie. One can only imagine where he was mentally at the time. (Granted, his IMDb picture explains a lot.)

I believe he means for game. The Swiss are, at lack for a better word, quite aristocratic. I've had success catching some in Bulgaria on vacation but they thought of themselves as princesses.

Yeah exactly. Spoiled princesses. And it's a very conservative culture. aristocratic is actually a good description. People are extremely sceptical of people they don't know or people who are somehow "different". It's also a VERY status oriented society - I think even more so than the US. That's why I mentioned above that in New York you don't necessarily need that much money - because comparing New York to Switzerland, I think money is WAY more important in Switzerland.

I want to move to NYC

This is all very interesting reading.

I'm planning on moving to NYC in January or February. I'm no investment-banker, but my finances are ok for the move.

I thought NYC, and particularly Manhattan was one of the better places in the states with a solid ratio of single women to single men: http://nycedc.tumblr.com/post/1617565243...in-nyc-new

So I figured that living in my own place near some good nightlife spots in Manhattan would mean for a pretty pleasant single-life. Add Tinder + OKC in the most densely crowded city in the US with a surplus of single women and I kind of thought I couldn't go wrong... I mean... if Miss America is on there the situation can't be *that* bad?!

Am I taking crazy pills here?!

^ you are fine. Just don't move there solely to pull.

If you have a career on lock and have good/decent money it will be a cake walk.

No career/money worries, thanks for the comforting words.

I'm moving from SF, and after reading http://www.rooshvforum.network/thread-30527.html just now, I think it sounds like it will be a good move: Possibly harder to pull than SF, but with more diverse and densely packed talent and nightlife, I think it will be a win.

^ NYC is roughly 4x easier than SF. If you were pulling once a month, 1 a week should be expected on the same effort.

Again assuming logistics, cash etc are fine. Since they are it will be like returning to the JV league.

Hopefully you don't get the looks inflation issue too fast ha!

Keep in mind that the younger hip parts of Brooklyn that you keep hearing about - Bushwick and Wiliamsburg - are generally considered to be super "hipster" by most people. However, they do offer rent ranging from 800-1500 per person if you live a small ass semi run down place with roommates.

You're not going to see much of the frat scene there and as a result the smoke-shows that seem to generally get attracted to loud white dudes wearing chubbies and crushin brews with the bros aren't going to be as plentiful. There's still some bishes but more of the artsy type.

If that's your scene, just hop on the L train and you'll be in the LES in no time or "Murray Chill" is just a fully pregamed cab ride away. It might be tough trying to pull girls back to what most folks in Manhattan feel is the hipster ghetto but you sound up to the challenge.

I'll stereotype the hell out things so were on the same page. I'll use Murray hill because that's the "cheap" Manhattan starter hood for lots of 20 somethings:

Crushing Brews = Murray Hill
Trendy Faux New Orleans themed Vintage Cocktail Bar without Sign = Williamsburg / Bushwick
Stripped Button Downs = Murray Hill
Beer Nerd Bar = Williamsburg / Bushwick
Zed at Volume 11 = Murray Hill
Local Rock Band at Dive or Up and Coming Indie band = Williamsburg / Bushwick
Drunk Girls in Heels and mini skirts = Murray Hill
Tatoo Sleeve Girl who likes rapey Sex Williamsburg / Bushwick
JAPs = Murray Hill
Fist pumping = Murray Hill
More Gays = Williamsburg / Bushwick
Dressing up Like an Ironic Idiot = Williamsburg / Bushwick
Saturday College Football = Murray Hill
Is it local? = Williamsburg / Bushwick
1 hot girl for every 5 with scrillex hair = Williamsburg / Bushwick

You get the idea pluses and minuses. Watch out for bedbugs.

I want to move to NYC

Oh well, moving to NYC next week for my new job. Reading this gives me mixed feelings. Not a high roller by any means but we will see. It's going to take me a few weeks to get a lay of the land but just the sheer abundance of women within a small area makes it seem easy. Could be a misnomer. I would think daygame would be the route to go.

Feel the fear..then do it anyway.

Great pt. It's important to pick the appropriate battles that are relevant to your short-term and long-term goals however as working hard for the sake of doing just that will result in wasted time. Still agree overall with the assessment.

Looking around on craigslist apartments. That must suck to not be as loud as you want when you want. How thr hell are you supposed to find decent roommates? Do you have to spend crazy amount to get your own place?

How shitty is this one?

A friend of mine just bought a new place in Brooklyn in a decent area and he's broke as shit.

Yes, you can live here if you commit to making it work for you, but I recommend having a long-term plan in mind and playing up to your demographics as best you can.

Top one is in a good location safety wise, but horribly logistically.

The bottom one is much closer to Manhattan, but in a shitty location otherwise.

It depends on how you define shitty. If you are use to living in the 5 boroughs well then yeah its pretty good (Manhattan is @ 20-25min away). Well if you are use to living in the sticks you are going to be in for a big culture shock (especially at night). I personally see no issues with the neighborhood (I use to live @ 15min away).

I want to move to NYC

Any updates for the people that moved to NYC?

I'm entertaining the idea right now.. However I don't have a career (bartender) nor do I have a job lined up and don't have much saved. Maybe 3-4 months safety net.

I'm 31 and have always wanted to move there. I moved to FL 6 months ago (Sarasota) and it is just not me at all. I'm originally from Boston, so I've always thought NYC was just a larger scale Boston.

Got offered a room at a friends apt in BK for $900 for mid April... But had planned on staying and working/ saving up $$ down here in FL until mid May.
