Taleb on how to tell which majors are BS

Yeah if we're taking this to a philosophical what is a bs major etc then IDGAF.

Go major in "math" at any university. Come report back on your income 5 years later. LOL unless you're top tier from a top tier school and go work as a quant/programmer may as well have not gone to school.

The only thing that matters is what are your options and opportunities. If any kid in college follows the advice in the post before this one he will destroy all of his classmates.

Best school on cheap fake major, intern for free in industry you want, switch majors to a "real" one, let your grades slip as you work real internships and lock in that McKinsey/bulge bracket job and laugh to the bank.

I would argue the reverse. Get the best school always. Why? Drum fucking roll = connections.

Do you want a rollodex full of people from money or a rollodex of people from poverty. You always want the best possible connections. This is every industry in the world.

Yeah, I have said that many times on here to deaf ears.

Do you want to go to school with a kid who's Dad owns Casinos?

Or do you want to go to school with a guys kid from Zanesville who loses his whole paycheck in Casinos?

And as you probably already know, a $300-$500 a month health club membership will accomplish all of that and more. Plus you save over $30K a year.

Yes.

Also, why the hell would you want to network with some 20 year old son of a multimillionaire when you could straight network with his father.

Custom suited up, sharp social skills, and hustle, and you're good to go. Older men respect a young man who hustles his ass and has ambition over a Straight A nerd who needs to be told what to do.

If you are going to college to solely network you're better off setting up a linkedin account.

Unless you are joining Skull and Bones.

You want to know the only thing you can assume about a broken down old man? It's that he's a survivor.

Its as if you've never attended University. You realize that most firms (i.e. goldman sachs, mckinsey etc.) have filters in place where they have filters that ONLY allow undergraduates from certain schools to apply right? Not to mention the fact that certain schools have access to on-campus recruitment opportunities. So right off the bat if you go to some b school, your application wont even be accepted. Linkedin for the most part is useless, and is just there to pump up peoples egos, I've gotten more offers from internships from knowing someone at the firm than I have from that useless site.

^Dude didn;t you just say you were halfway through your first year at college? I really doubt firms are offering you internships as a freshman who hasn't even completed his first semester. If they are, more power to you, but sounds pretty doubtful.

I think STEM should be changed to MELTS to include Law.
There's too many lawyers. Even top 15 law grads have issues getting jobs.

Really? I didn't know that. What about architects?

Architecture is in rough shape as well as it is tied to the construction/building industry.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

Katatonic -

maybe, maybe not.

You certainly aren't going to party with the guy for 4 years and build the same relationship.

torontokid -

It's a lot easier.
