Blenders and smoothie recipes

This is a thread for guys to share experiences and recipes with blenders and blended smoothies.

Let's all start by agreeing to avoid the blending Vs. juicing debate and any other tangents. This thread is for recipes, blender reviews, and personal experiences with making smoothies.

I was just given a low-end blender (Magic Bullet) and have made some good simple smoothies with various combinations of chocolate protein powder, banana, almond milk, kale, blueberries, and athletic greens. After a bit more experimenting I will drop my favourite recipe.

The big question on my mind right now is whether to shell out the big bucks for a BlendTec or Vitamix. Are they worth it? Are there any blenders in the $100 range that are 90% as good as the $500 options? Kale in the magic bullet is actually not nearly as chunky as I thought it would be, but I've read that a good blender will completely liquify leafy greens.

And of course, drop your favourite smoothie recipes (along with the type of blender you're using) in this thread to give others ideas.

I have a Vitamix and consider it well worth price.
I also HIGHLY recommend the NutriBullet (not to be confused with the far inferior Magic Bullet).
I also have this one, and it is AMAZINGLY comparable with the higher priced blenders... at only $100. It DESTROYS things like kale & chia seeds.

Kitchen Aid blender is sweet. Super hardcore. EASIEST TO CLEAN because the bowl/cup thing is all one piece. On sale at Target occasionally.

A big key for me is frozen bananas. I have to use a knife to peel them but it makes the smoothie very creamy and luscious.

My breakfast is:

1 frozen banana
1.5 cups of almond milk
1 cup of nuts
1 cup of raw oatmeal
1 handful of dates
A dash of cinnamon
2 large scoops of protein powder

I buy cheap blenders on sale at Wal-Mart or Target. 20-30 dollars or so. They usually last for years

I drink this BEAST of a smoothie a LOT after a workout:

*3 - 4 bananas (fresh; not frozen)
*4 dates
*handful soaked goji berries
*handful blueberries
*2 Tablespoons raw coconut cream, coconut butter (not oil) or homemade fermented almond-coconut "yogurt"
*1 Tablespoon melted, raw cacao butter
*1 heaping Tablespoon soaked chia seeds
*1 Tablespoon maca
*2 scoops Warrior Food protein powder
*Nice amount of any nutritionally dense greens. I love wild greens like lambsquarters & dandelion. Of course kale, spinach, parsley and romaine lettuce are also excellent
*1 - 2 teaspoons bovine colostrum powder
*1 heaping teaspoon bee pollen
*1 teaspoon pine pollen
*1 teaspoon mesquite powder
All in a base of either fresh coconut water (my cleaver technique for opening those bitches is stellar), homemade sesame seed milk, or homemade almond milk.
Throw that shit in the Vitamix and fuck it the fuck up.

Also, if we have freshly made nut and/or seed butters, I may use that instead of or in conjunction with the coconut cream, coconut butter, or fermented almond-coconut "yogurt."
