When Attention Whoring Goes Wrong

The family at the centre of a row over a note left to gay waitress on receipt for a meal have hit back claiming the whole episode is a hoax.

Dayna Morales, a former marine, hit headlines last week when a picture of a receipt she allegedly received from a family at the Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, saying they didn't 'agree with her lifestyle' was posted online and went viral.

On it she claimed the customer had written: 'Sorry, I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and the way you live your life.'

Miss Morales said she felt offended and upset by the comment branding the couple 'ignorant' and received thousands of messages of support online.

But now a New Jersey family have come forward claiming to be the customers involved and producing a receipt printed at the same time on the same date, for the same amount, except with an $18 tip.

[Image: attachment.jpg15588]   [Image: attachment.jpg15589]

They contacted NBCNewYork.com after seeing news reports of Miss Morales' story and claim the whole thing is hoax designed to provoke reaction.

To prove their point they also produced a Visa bill, which indicated their card was charged for the $93.55 meal plus the tip, for a total of $111.55.

The husband said far from being homophobic he actually refused to vote for New Jersey Governor Chris Christie because the governor opposes same-sex marriage.

'Never would a message like that come from us,' he protested.

Morales announced last week she would donate thousands of dollars in gratuities from supporters to the Wounded Warrior Project.

But the wife countered this gesture of apparent good will saying: ' I just felt like people have a right to know that - it's fine if people want to donate to her or to the Wounded Warriors but they're doing it under a false pretense.

The restaurant reportedly could not produce the original receipt nor explain why the family was charged for the tip amount for the meal last Wednesday.

It told the station it was aware of the couple's claims and that an internal investigation is ongoing.

Morales claimed that she felt judged by the family began as soon as she introduced herself.

The mother, shocked by her short hair, allegedly exclaimed, 'Oh, I thought you were gonna say your name is Dan! You sure surprised us!'

She sent the receipt for the meal to Have A Gay Day and the LGBT Facebook Group posted it online, where it garnered hundreds of supportive comments.

In an email at the time Morales said she was upset she'd served in the marines to protect such ignorant Americans and was concerned about the example the couple were setting for their children.

'Never in a million years did I think this would happen,' she told Have A Gay Day.

'I am THOROUGHLY offended, mad, p***ed off and hurt that THIS is what her kids will grow up learning and that I served in the Marines to keep ignorant people like them free.

'Sorry lady but I don't agree with YOUR lifestyle and the way you're raising your kids but you didn't see me throwing that in your face and giving you shitty service.'

Morales' story was met with an outpouring of support online, with a heterosexual Facebook user commenting, 'as a member of the heterosexual community, I beg your forgiveness for these ignorant people' and another wrote 'I hope those parents get publicly humiliated enough to never leave their house again! I feel sorry for their kids.'

Morales later responded that it took every fiber of her being not to spit in the couple's food, but her faith in humanity was now restored.

'You all have put the BIGGEST smile on my face tonight and made me realize that there are more good people in the world than bad,' she wrote.

Here's a tip that will save you a lot of time. Any time you see something like this in the MSM -- where a server is claiming discrimination based on race, gender, sexual preference, etc. -- just assume it's bullshit and move on. If you're feeling particularly brave, be sure to tell everyone within earshot that it's bullshit too.

Here's another one for you. This woman received rape threats... from herself!

CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- A recent University of Wyoming graduate and liberal activist has been ordered to pay a fine after pleading no contest to charges involving a Facebook hoax where authorities say she posted a sexually violent threat against herself written to appear as though it were from an anonymous Republican rival.

Meghan Lanker-Simons must pay $540 in fines and court fees. She was charged with misdemeanor interfering with a peace officer after the UW Police Department investigated the graphic comment this spring.

The posting prompted outrage and a rally against sexual violence that Lanker-Simons addressed.

Investigators say Lanker-Simons wrote the post.

Circuit Court Judge Randal Arp accepted her no contest plea and imposed the fine and fees earlier this week.

Charles Pelkey, an attorney who represented Lanker-Simons, declined to comment on the case or to give his client's whereabouts Friday.

Lanker-Simons gained national attention in 2010 when she filed a lawsuit against the university that forced it to allow 1960s radical Bill Ayers on the campus for a speech on education. Ayers co-founded the Weather Underground, an anti-war group from the Vietnam Era that claimed to be responsible for a series of bombings, including nonfatal explosions at the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol.

Lanker-Simons' husband, Andrew Simons, ran unsuccessfully in 2010 as a Democrat for Wyoming secretary of state.

The comment that led to the campus police probe in April described Lanker-Simons as "that chick that runs her liberal mouth all the time."

"One night with me and she's gonna be a good Republican (expletive)," according to the post, which included a more explicit reference to rape.

The comment appeared on a Facebook forum for UW students that is not operated or sanctioned by the university.

Lanker-Simons, who graduated from UW last spring, denied posting the comment during an interview with detectives, according to the police affidavit.

Police traced the post to Lanker-Simons' personal computer and determined that it was logged on under her user name when the posting was made.

If this woman doesn't instantly become unhirable and end up living in a soup kitchen to the end of her days because no one wants to hire such a barrel of gunpowder, something is seriously wrong with this world.

Ah who am I kidding, we all know she's getting lots of support and talk show deals.

Ali, did you write that? I might have to put something up later. "My waiter, 'Dayna' spit in our food and screamed "HOMOPHOBES" after I asked why she carried out one of our entrees in her underwear. I was truly disgusted, finished the food(not the entree), paid and left tip anyways and got the heck out of there, and won't be back, ever."

So now, because one twisted individual perhaps used some of those other instances as a way to get attention/money for herself, we should assume EVERYONE is a liar? I don't recall any other people accused of this coming up with proof that they DIDN'T write something like that on their receipt.

I agree with you. This isn't a reason to believe that all people in a certain category are liars. Some people actually are discriminated against or mistreated, although not often enough to satisfy this attention whore.

That being said, the credit card payment that the couple has on record (I believe the card company has confirmed) was for a total higher than what the recipe produced by the waitress stated.

They were billed for an amount that surely included a tip.

Oh that's weird, a butch dyke with a persecution complex?

Turns out she was dishonorably discharged from the Marines when she stopped showing up for drills. I was wondering how such a dumpy sack of potatoes could make it through PFT.

We let women in the military. Then we let gays in the military. And she STILL has to bitch about inequality and bigotry to the point where she fabricates it. And who eats the cost? We do.

That's part of my point. These folks produced proof that the waitress was a liar about not tipping. That pretty much made it obvious that SHE wrote the supposedly offending message on the receipt herself. Not the case in those other instances of this that got picked up by the media. Those restaurants investigated and found the employee did in fact write, or in some cases entered the offending message into the register so that it printed on the receipt.

The Gallop Asian Bistro has taken seriously the allegations made by Ms. Dayna Morales, and those made against her. Despite news reports to the contrary, this is not a simple, straight-forward matter and we have conducted our own internal investigation. The results of that investigation are inconclusive as to exactly what happened between Ms. Morales and the customers that night. However, in light of the investigation and recent events, both Ms. Morales and Gallop Asian Bistro have made a joint decision that Ms. Morales will no longer continue her employment at our restaurant. We wish her well in the future.

Quote:Quote:

Former coworkers of Morales have spoken out saying Morales has a history of lying. At one point, she reportedly lied about having terminal cancer.

The 22-year-old Marine, who was dishonorably discharged from the military, received monetary donations from around the world after her story went viral. She said she planned to donate the thousands of dollars to the Wounded Warrior Project, but Bridgewater Patch reported no money had been given to the nonprofit as of last week.

At least some justice was served.
