Bill Maher Contrasts John F. Kennedy with Ronald Reagan

Good closing on Real Time.

One of the better parts in comparing Democrats and Republicans:

“We have Kennedy, you have Reagan.
We have marijuana. You have Metamucil.
We want gays in the military. You want them in the airport restroom.

I don't think anyone can disagree with that.

Pretty funny. And accurate.

I disagree. Most Republicans today like JFK and point out his decisions would be considered VERY conservative today. JFK cut taxes, he increased military spending, he stuck by his religions and traditional views. He would be pretty conservative in today's political landscape.

I will add, it is a good poke at the conservatives today who claim to not want big govt, then want govt. in our bedrooms and our personal life choices.

Comparing Democrats vs. Republicans is pointless.

Among the top donors to Barack Obama's 2008 campaign ... Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan & Chase, Citigroup, and Morgan Stanley.

Among the top donors to John McCain's 2008 campaign ... Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan & Chase, Citigroup, and Morgan Stanley.

Yea, I agree. He was comparing Kennedy with Reagan in a sense though. I think Kennedy and Reagan were more alike than not. Both had assassination attempts, obviously only Kennedy's was successful, both took the communists head on, both were loved, personally, I like Kennedy more. Anybody the power structure has to resort to killing is a hero in my book. Reagan, for a lot of reasons, let George H usurp a lot of his power. Reagan was actually friends with Ron Paul and was dead set on returning us to the gold standard, but then he had a talking to.

Bill Maher is basically saying Kennedy was cool as hell while Reagan was your old senile grandfather.

You want to know the only thing you can assume about a broken down old man? It's that he's a survivor.

Quote:Quote:

In a world of complex and continuing problems, in a world full of frustrations and irritations, America's leadership must be guided by the lights of learning and reason – or else those who confuse rhetoric with reality and the plausible with the possible will gain the popular ascendancy with their seemingly swift and simple solutions to every world problem.

There will always be dissident voices heard in the land, expressing opposition without alternative, finding fault but never favor, perceiving gloom on every side and seeking influence without responsibility. Those voices are inevitable.

But today other voices are heard in the land – voices preaching doctrines wholly unrelated to reality . . . At a time when the national debt is steadily being reduced in terms of its burden on our economy, they see that debt as the single greatest threat to our security. At a time when we are steadily reducing the number of Federal employees serving every thousand citizens, they fear those supposed hordes of civil servants far more than the actual hordes of opposing armies.

We cannot expect that everyone, to use the phrase of a decade ago, will "talk sense to the American people." But we can hope that fewer people will listen to nonsense. And the notion that this Nation is headed for defeat through deficit, or that strength is but a matter of slogans, is nothing but just plain nonsense.

Here's JFK's "Wanted for Treason" flyer that was being distributed in Dallas the day of his trip. Does this look familiar to anyone?

Right, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan Chase are filling the campaign coffers of a political party devoted to ending capitalism and stifling the ability of Wall St. to make profits. What a cogent and insightful piece of analysis there.

WANTED FOR TREASON

THIS MAN is wanted for treasonous activities against the United States:

1. Betraying the Constitution (which he swore to uphold):
He is turning the sovereignty of the U.S. over to the communist controlled United Nations.
He is betraying our friends [Cuba, Katanga, Portugal] and befriending our enemies [Russia, Yugoslavia, Poland].

2. He has been WRONG on innumerable issues affecting the security of the U.S. (United Nations-Berlin wall-Missle removal-Cuba-Wheat deals-Test Ban Treaty, etc.)

3. He has been lax in enforcing Communist Registration laws.

4. He has given support and encouragement to the Communist inspired racial riots.

5. He has illegally invaded a sovereign State with federal troops.

6. He has consistantly[sic] appointed Anti-Christians to Federal office: Upholds the Supreme Court in Anti-Christian rulings.
Aliens and known Communists abound in Federal offices.

7. He has been caught in fantastic LIES to the American people (including personal ones like his previous marriage and divorce)

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Just substitute socialist for communist and socialism for communism and you can see where the Tea Party gets its ideological roots. It's the same recycled bullshit, brought to you by the same recycled people if you know how to recognize it.

Communism is a loaded word. If you ever come to eastern europe, Russia, or Ukraine, you (detlefmourning) will understand what I mean when I say that international bankers bankroll communists. It is accepted as fact in Ukraine, I don't know about Russia, that Wall Street funded the communist revolution. I know it sounds ridiculous, but the world produces strange bedfellows.

Definitely. The big boys, like Goldman Sach's, want this liberal feminist socialist BS that both the major parties are pushing for. It gives them more money and less competition.

Obama has done an excellent job of screwing over the middle class, giving nothing to the poor, and making the rich richer.

I don't think that was the point. The point, I believe, was that there is a bizzaro group of people around in politics that can never be satisfied and that will always accuse everyone who doesn't pander to them of being a "traitor".

^^^The point was that that was a flyer being distributed around Dallas the day that Kennedy was assassinated and there isn't any difference between this and the Tea Party crap that's going around about Obama today (and it's not much different from the Clinton shit either). These are different branches of a tree with the same ideological roots. There was also an expensive advertisement taken out in the Dallas Morning News by several John Birch Society titans of Dallas business saying something to the effect of: "Welcome to Dallas, Mr. President, now watch your back." I'll post it if I can find it, and all of you can judge it for yourself.

After all these years, the powerful in this country have have figured out how to wage this war through surrogates, so it's much harder for people to make these connections and see this shit for what it is. This actually should have been:

"We want gays in the military. You want them in the Truckstop restroom."

I should write for Bill Maher.

Because, you know, Republicans are always from crappy Red States where they have Truckstops.

Would have been a cleaner, and more truthful diss.

Quote:Quote:

On June 11, 2007, Craig was arrested at the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport on suspicion of lewd conduct.[5] The nature of the alleged activity has been categorized by some as cottaging.[6] According to the police report, the police officer sat in a bathroom stall as part of an undercover operation investigating complaints of sexual activity in the restroom. After about 13 minutes of sitting in the stall, the police officer observed Craig lingering outside and frequently peeking through the crack of the door on the stall. Craig then entered the stall to the left of the officer's stall. The police officer made the following observations, which he recorded in his report of the incident, as to what happened next:
At 1216 hours, Craig tapped his right foot. I recognized this as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct. Craig tapped his toes several times and moves his foot closer to my foot. ... The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot which was within my stall area. Craig then proceeded to swipe his left hand under the stall divider several times, with the palm of his hand facing upward.

...is what Maher was referring to in the monologue. Cottaging it was:

Quote:Quote:

Cottaging is a British gay slang term referring to anonymous sex between men in a public lavatory (a "cottage",[1] "tea-room"[2] or "beat"[3]), or cruising for sexual partners with the intention of having sex elsewhere.[4][5] The term has its roots in self-contained English toilet blocks resembling small cottages in their appearance; in the English cant language of Polari this became a double entendre by gay men referring to sexual encounters.[6]
"Cottage" is documented as having been in use during the Victorian era to refer to a public toilet and by the 1960s had become an exclusively homosexual slang term.[7][8] The word used in this sense is predominantly British (a cottage more commonly being a small, cosy, countryside home), though the term is occasionally used with the same meaning in other parts of the world.[9] Among gay men in America, lavatories used for this purpose are called tea rooms.[10][11]

Full definition and explanation of the Larry Craig Scandal are here and here if anyone cares. The facts of the case are not really in dispute, despite the married for 25 or so years at the time Craig's "I am not gay, I never have been gay" protestations to the contrary. He copped a plea to a lesser charge and retired from public life afterwards.

Quote:Quote:

Craig married Suzanne Thompson in 1983 and adopted the three children she had from a previous marriage.[16] Through his adopted children, Craig has nine grandchildren.[17]

But they never had kids themselves, not that there's anything wrong with that, but sham marriages to give closet gay politicians political cover aren't exactly out of the ordinary. Closet case?

Quote:Quote:

Allegations of cocaine use and sex with male teenage congressional pages by unnamed congressmen were pursued by investigators and journalists in 1982.[18] Craig issued a statement denying involvement.[19] Craig stated "Persons who are unmarried as I am, by choice or by circumstance, have always been the subject of innuendos, gossip and false accusations. I think this is despicable."[15] Craig served on the House Ethics Committee. In 1989 Craig was reported to have led an extended effort that pushed for more severe punishment of Representative Barney Frank for his involvement in a gay prostitution scandal.[20][21]

Quote:Quote:

In 1999 Craig became sharply critical of U.S. President Bill Clinton for the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Speaking on NBC's Meet The Press, Craig told Tim Russert: "The American people already know that Bill Clinton is a bad boy – a naughty boy. I'm going to speak out for the citizens of my state, who in the majority think that Bill Clinton is probably even a nasty, bad, naughty boy."

Any of the men on this forum disagree that no self-respecting heterosexual male would refer to Bill Clinton as a "nasty, naughty boy" much less twice in one sentence? I didn't think so. Closet case.

This is one of numerous republicans that turned out to be closet cases, and why political watchers are waiting for the other gay shoe to drop in the Trey Radel Case.

Do you know that demagoguery is practiced only by those who oppose your views?

When I read that flyer, my first thought was that I could swap out a few adjectives and a couple of nouns and easily apply it to any President we've had since Carter(because his good/bad accomplishments are difficult to pinpoint), and a good deal of those who preceded him.

I see that kind of bullshit targeting Republicans, Democrats, and the like constantly. Here's a few of my favorites about Bush:
Quote:Quote:

George Bush hates black people so much that he ordered the National Guard to blow up the levee to flood the Lower Ninth Ward.

He attempted to make rape legal.

Him and his buddies engineered the housing bubble and subsequent financial crisis in order to concentrate more wealth to the rich.

The 9/11 attacks were nothing but a thinly veiled coup designed to establish a dictatorship for the Republican agenda and keep the Democratic leadership from instituting policies that would improve the world.

Republicans and Democrats are little more than two groups of monkeys who compete for power by flinging shit at each other. They get away with it, because there's no shortage of rapt audiences.
