Cop shoots six rounds at the truck because the kid didn't turn off the engine.

Two of the bullets hit him and killed him.

The cop is currently on paid leave.

The father called the cops to teach him a lesson, didn't turn out the way he had expected.

The kid was no serious threat, was unarmed, and had no previous criminal record. The cops were aware of this before the shooting.

A number of kids have been gunned down by cops recently. What the hell's going on?

Given it's the midwest (and a smaller city), you can guarantee the cop will be cleared of any wrongdoing.

The mentality there is still that cops can do no wrong.

Your assessment couldn't be more watered down. And the story you linked omitted several facts. I just watched the cop's dashcam video of this last night on liveleak.

1. When the chase started, the truck that the kid was driving had a landscaping trailer hitched up. During the chase, most of the contents of the trailer were left strewn all of town. Eventually the trailer itself broke free from the truck, creating a rather serious hazard as it did so.
2. The kid ran several stop signs and red lights. There were several close calls with other vehicles.
3. The cop did slow down and back off when ordered to do so, even appearing to lose sight of the truck at one point.
4. The kid didn't stop driving after he spun the truck out and damaged it. When the cops got him stopped and boxed in, what did he do? He attempted to ram and shove the blocking cruiser out of the way. This is what got him killed.

The kid stole a Ford F-350 (which probably weighed about 7000lbs after the trailer came off), drove it at high speeds and recklessly endangered the lives of others, and then proceeded to try to use that 7000lb vehicle as a battering ram on a police cruiser with the cop still inside, thus putting the cops life at serious risk.

Normally when the cops fuck up, I'm the first to point it out, but in this case, the cops didn't fuck up. That kid didn't stop posing a threat until they shot him. He asked for it.

Agreed, the kid asked for it. I fully support the actions of the police in this instance. I'm surprised they didn't try and use the spike strips to stop the car.

Or a road block? Either way, don't think the police won't kill you if you go on a car chase.

Use Gawker as a source, expect to be called out. You know Jizzabel is attached to the same network right?

You cant read anything on Gawker and expect it has even the slightest sliver of truth, or an ounce of unbiased factual analysis. Its purely an advertising driven machine fueled by our clicks.
