Sailboat or bike...for adventure travel and meeting local girls

So I am a sailor, grew up on boats and worked on boats for years. After I finish this contract, I'm looking for a new adventure. I am in my early 30's if that makes a difference. Please only give input if you have actual experience. I can also answer questions if anyone is considering this type of lifestyle. Thanks

I've traveled on other peoples "yachts" including ocean crossings and island hopped on my own (smaller but ocean capable) sailboat, but never really fully immersed myself into the "liveaboard" lifestyle for more than a few months.

I also like bikes. Both motor bikes and cycles, for traveling. Obviously motorcycles have the cool factor and "cycle" touring you have a lot of possible obstacles to overcome.. I have done quite a bit of cycle touring in the states and (unless I brought a girlfriend with me) wasn't getting laid much.... I'm thinking that maybe certain parts of the world might be a little more conductive to a fun trip though..

I like to travel light so on either bike or motorbike would be going with minimal 'gear' and staying at a new hotel every night, etc...

A remote third option would be (crazy as it sounds) a kayak or rowing dory. As you can see I like to combine a bit of a workout with my daily routine...ideally. Anything I missed. I am open to crazy new options or suggestions. Pilgrimage on foot?

I know that logically it seems like a cool sailboat is a great option for meeting girls...while traveling, but that hasn't proved to be the case (yet) for me. Often you can't anchor/moor your boat anywhere near prime parts of town and in 3rd world countries, you really can't leave it unattended much, if at all. It's often conductive to fun day sails or booze cruises with groups of girls and friends (especially other travelers), but not so easy to just bring a single girl out to your boat and fuck her, for example/. Then there is the whole "a boat is a pit you throw money into" thing and a whole lot of time (months/years) in the boat yard getting ready for the trip.

Brief advice for anyone dreaming about a sailboat: get a fiberglass hull, not wood, and only do it if/when you are actually going to use the boat. It doesn't make sense to have a boat sitting in the marina costing $. That said it is a loosing proposition anyways, you will loose $ no matter what...so make sure there will be enough fun involved to justify the expense.

Parts of the word most conductive to bike touring and getting laid? Or sailing and meeting cool LOCAL girls who are down?

Any thoughts, stories, advice appreciated.

This idea has always seemed cool.

If you left your boat tied somewhere out by a marsh and then took a smaller boat into town, how secure would you make the boat?

Why does a sailboat lose money?

Do you have a boat coast guard license, and or what's the best way to get one?

To be honest, I think those machines will only complicate your game. Bikes don't impress every girl... many are not even slightly interested in them. There are too many reasons for her not to get on a bike with you... fear, heels, no helmet, rain, cold, etc. Living on a boat would restrict you to certain areas of the city and introduce a lot of logistical issues.

Given a budget of less than $200k, I think the only machine that will significantly improve your game is an AC/Shelby Cobra. Even if you're drinking, you can park it nearby before you arrive and use it as a prop later in the night.

Thanks all! I had read el mech's thread about using a flat's skiff, great technique...any thoughts about places other than Florida where similar game can be run?

grit, just saying that any boat is an expensive toy. More costly than people who haven't owned one can ever imagine. As long as you know that going in, it's no problem. Coast guard 6 pack (captains) licence I do have..expired though I believe. It's not that hard to get. Just put in the hours at sea and take the test. You don't need one unless you want to take people out for commercial purposes. That sort of thing (doing charters, etc) is not on my radar at this time. I would be looking at a sailboat as a "pleasure craft" only.

daver, you are missing the point I believe. I can't take a mustang with me to the D.R. I want to travel and do so in a fun way. You think a muscle car will do this for me, I disagree. How many guys have cool cars, tons. Most aren't on average getting more pussy than the regular guy. IF I was looking to travel just in the states I would perhaps look at a pimped out Sprinter (rv)..but I would prefer to be overseas.

I have done a decent amount of the world by motorcycle. I also travel light, but I use a tent for the most part and just stay in hotels during the weekend, especially in places where people really only go out on the weekends.

Staying in hotels every night is also a huge pain in the ass. Bringing your gear into a hotel (as well as parking it inside the hotel) is a hassle. Add to this is most of the good riding is not near cities and when you find a great area, its better to explore it for a four or five days and this means roughing it. Running off every evening to find a hotel is not fun. Also in small towns and villages the hotels are shittier than any tent. I have actually set up my tent in a hotel room and slept in it. The room was so filthy and run down it was my only option (other than sleeping in a sketchy ditch or beside a piles of smoldering garbage).

I have always wanted to travel by sailboat, and I will likely do it in the next 5-10 years. I first need to finish three big rides. Russia, Africa and South America. But no question, if adventure is what you are after, motorcycles bring that in spades. You can have the best and worst day of your life within hours of each other.

And the stories. A six month adventure through Latin America has yielded me more stories and fun than I could have ever thought possible.

As far as women are concerned, this is perhaps the main reason I allow myself a weekend of hotel per week. Riding in the third world is the dirtiest business imaginable so getting scrubbed up and hitting the town with some real badass swagger works like a charm.

I don't disagree with you. All I was trying to say was that cars, bikes and boats generally won't improve your game. In Eastern Europe, the only toy that's really going to get you laid is a Cobra, because they're both extremely sexy and exotic over here.

What about a Land Rover? I know it won't get you to the same places and it isn't as fun, but if you're going to spend a year exploring, doing it by bike will take its toll physically.

A guy I know did Siberia by bike, but he said you would definitely need a wingman or two. Doing it alone will destroy you. It's a long thread, but you can check out their adventure and the women they met on the way here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=533442

Sailboat all day every day.

Girls aren't into cars or bikes, AC Cobra you got to be kidding me. The only car that I have been in that got alot of attention was my friends Range Rover sport.

You can't party on a bike or in a car, you can party on a sailboat. Not sure where the OP is, but in North America it is a win -win.

I don't really understand the question but I have a question..

Where do you want to go? The DR is not big on boats and most cruisers avoid but if you do go Luperon is the place as far as ass goes in the DR you can't miss if you have a car thats nice it's X100 but just a suv is all you need.

Different parts of the world use different boats so you won't see my skiff in Alaska because there's no need to go 70mph in 10 inches of water but here it's the best way to access the poon.

How about Greece, italy, Turkey, Malta by sailboat?

Another problem with sailboats is they don't have the weedwacker blender effect as there's not enough party space on them unless they're huge. So, a cruiser wins there.

The guy here has a cobra and he just told me it's not working for pulling tail right now. I think it's him though.
