New Eminem Song Goes Viral: Rap God

Em is probably the most talented rapper of all time IMO. At least among mainstream ones. This is sick.

Peep the double entendre at :45. "But for me to rap like a computer must be in my genes/I got a laptop in my back pocket". Filthy. The site Rap Genius breaks down the line a bit further.

Quote:Quote:

This line ties in with the hook line directly preceding it. Note the double entendre—the word genes can also be heard as jeans, leading to two meanings:

Genes: It’s in Em’s blood to rap with technical perfection similar to that of a robot.
Jeans: There’s a computer in Em’s bluejeans. Hence “I got a laptop in my back pocket”.

Also ties in with the previous line: “They said I rap like a robot, so call me Rapbot”

Rap Genius btw is an indispensable resource for a hip hop fan. Just click on the lyric in question and a popup comes up with an expalnation. They catch alot of meanings to seemingly innocuous lyrics and really make
you appreciate how nice some rap cats really are, especially since they can refer to really obscure things at times.

Yeah. I've referred to Rap Genius many times. It's a real treat for lyrics from rappers that like to use a lot of metaphors and linguistic schemes (i.e. Jay-Z).

I agree that Eminem is one of the top rappers of all time. In fact Nas and Eminem are my two favorite rappers.

However, I don't think that Rap God is that good.

I'll take "Till I Collapse" any day as a testament to his talent:

I think Rap Genius is required for 80% of Lupe Fiasco's lines. That dudes's bars are incredibly stacked and complex.

Im feeling the track Rap God, Em is showing he still has the technical spitting skills. However I find Em's content lacking at times.

This is the Em I like.

But what does that mean to be the best rapper of our times? Sure maybe he is, but most rap is just about hype. In essence, all this boastful rap is cheerleader stuff.

Maybe Eminem is the best cheer-leader of our times. Or, of his times.

Nah, hiphop was best mid-90s. This includes Eminem, but also many other acts. Not impressed with this song.

I like eminem. I hate 'rap god'. Turned it off after thirty seconds. I don't care what he's saying the overall sound is just cluttered.

The actual rapping in Rap God is really clever, maybe the among the best I've ever heard, but it's sort of poorly produced and not really a good 'SONG'.

So many shitty rappers score a great beat and rhyme their garbage over it for that one hit wonder. Eminem manages to stay hot despite his terrible beats because of his ability as a lyricist. I can't get my hears around the fact that his beats are so goddamn cheesy sometimes. 'Without Me' from a few years ago comes to mind, that's when it started to get corny. He always seems to have some goofy tuba or hyperactive salt shaker in the background. That newish single he has where he sing/whines the chorus is painful. But no doubt lyrically he is one of the best of all time.

Yeah. I never really liked his actual albums (save for one or two songs here and there) but when he freestyles (like on Rap God) or guest appears on another rapper's song he always murders it. I figure he makes his actual albums for kids in Middle America that actually buy records and want to kill their moms and shit. Not my thing. But his lyrical ability ranks up there with the best.

Yea I'm not really feeling the production on both songs off mmlp2 so far.

I get that Bezerk was supposed to be a nod to 90's hip hop but it just sounds like he's rapping over a Beastie Boys track, and Rap God just doesn't sound polished.

At the actual art and technical side of rapping, he's almost flawless. Speed control, breath control etc. Very impressive.

However, it's hardly a 'song' this Rap God track, seems more like a mixtape track. However, I'm not doubting he'll stick this on the new album. I'm a very hard Eminem fan to please, as I happen to think that The Eminem Show was one of the best mainstream rap albums ever.

I like Eminem, and he's one of the greats, but he is definitely not the best rapper of all time. Or even in the top 5.

I loved the Slim Shady LP when it came out but didnt care much for anything after that. Amazing rapper but he has a habit of picking terrible beats.

Eminems verse on Jay-Z's "Renegade" is prob one of my favorite verses of all time.... When Nas and Jay beefed Nas even made a comment to jay that eminem "murdered you on your own shit."

"Since I'm in a position to talk to these kids and they listen
I ain't no politician, but I kick it with them a minute
Cuz see they call me a menace, and if the shoe fits I wear it
But if it don't, then y'all will swallow the truth, grin, and bear it
Now who's the king of these rude, ludicrous, lucrative lyrics?
Who could inherit the title, put the youth in hysterics?
Using his music to steer it, sharing his views and his merits
But there's a huge interference, they're saying you shouldn't here it
Maybe it's hatred I spew, maybe it's fuel for the spirit
Maybe it's beautiful music I made for you to just cherish
But I'm debated, disputed, hated, and viewed in America
As a motherfu**ing drug addict, like you didn't experiment? "
