What do you do during the week when you're in a rundown 3rd world city?

If you're into game, most girls don't go out and have fun during the week, and most people are busy working during the week, so what do you do when you find yourself bored in a shitty 3rd world city during weekdays?

Read a book, write a review about it. Work out. Study a new subject. Learn how to program or some other IT skill. Learn a language. Write a journal. Make a few online dating profiles.

Just kidding about that last one.

This one is actually one of the harder ones. I've noticed at least in Latin America, that the societies aren't highly oriented towards workout opportunities. Forget biking or jogging in the streets in most places....that's just too dangerous. I suppose a decent-sized city would have a gym, but I've also been to small cities that didn't have gyms. What do you all do for workout time when you're cooped up in a crummy city?

Download P90x. Get yourself the Iron Gym bar and you're pretty much set.

And I know they're playing loads of soccer down there so get into that.

The mind set you need to have is as if you are in prison. Locked up in a cell. Make yourself productive and move forward even when everything is dead around you.

Don't make the mistake of marinating and watching TV or playing video games all the time. It may seem more entertaining at the time, but in a year from now you'll regret not moving forward.

Walk around a lot, go to malls, read the English language local newspaper, stay in room reading, surfing the internet. Figure out what to eat.

See your regulars. If you have a rotation, the weekdays are the best time for them. My preferred activity was to go to the mall and then the motel. Just make sure that you start the night early enough so that they can catch the last bus home (or that you can drop her off).

Also, it depends on how provincial we're talking but you may still be able to find nightlife during the week. What city are you talking about? Often one bar gets known for being good on Wednesday or Thursday. Don't give up on nightlife entirely since it's possible there may be action during the week that you don't know about.

Drink until you don't remember the day before, that way you'll forget about being non-productive and won't feel so bad.

If you can't walk around during the day, why do you think it's safer at night?

Do a bunch of tourist stuff. Take a tour, get your picture taken in front of stuff for facebook creds.

Honestly this question is something you should try to answer before you go to a 3rd world city. I'd say finding a language school for daytime hours would be a good choice.

The following applies if you are in a city like Jakarta, Manila, Lagos, etc - and not some random village without running water in Somalia.

Find the websites for the US, British, Aussie, Canadian, Swiss, Swedish, etc, Chambers of Commerce. See if they are hosting any events that you can go to. Ditto US Embassy or Consulate.

Go to these events suited up, collect business cards, have an elevator pitch ready about why you are there, and build roots with influential people.

Snoop around on Linkedin to see if you are connected with people who seem influential, intelligent, and have a good career and business background. For example, an alumnus of your school operating some sort of business or managing the office of a bank or elite management consultancy. If you can convince these types to come out and meet you for tea, they will give you a good rundown of what is happening in that city and where opportunities exist if any.

Come with a small gift - like a paperback copy of "Antifragile" or "48 Laws of Power" or something like that. The purpose of this gift is to ingratiate yourself and also show your mentality and philosophy when it comes to relationships.

If you meet with enough people like this (lawyers, bankers, mgmt consultants, entrepreneurs, diplomats) you will eventually get invited to private parties or events. Bring a suit with you if you can. Try to get a strong sense before you go of what sorts of skills or people are in demand among those circles in general and position yourself and your pitch as such.

Ask a lot of questions, let people talk about themselves, Dale Carnegie stuff. When asked about your life, make sure you have carefully crafted responses about your own background so that they leave the conversation knowing that they can rely on you for something they need, if it applies.

Also snoop around for bilingual locals on Linkedin who have been educated in the UK, US, Australia, Canada, at name brand schools. People who came out of third world countries and study at Cornell or UCLA are coming from wealth and belong at least to the upper middle class, depending on how impoverished the country is. Try to connect with them and come up with a good reason to meet up. Also really valuable is if they have worked at a brand name multinational known for recruiting intelligent people - Goldman, Deloitte, etc - it's a different sort of alumni network but equally valuable.

My two cents, take it with a grain of salt.

Most cities with at least 400k population got night life everyday, but for the most part not even locals will be aware of...Those off weekends nights are better in my experience, much less people but more quality, talent and sex.

Yeah, day game.

What is stopping you from talking to every customer service receptionist, waitress, cashier, avocado vendor, etc etc. And there gotta be at least a few girls on the street going somewhere that you can stop and talk to. Daygame in supermarkets is awesome!

I think daygame in 3rd world can be as good or even better than night game. Plus you are obviously from out of town so you have an excuse to ask questions about the town and what she recommends/enjoys doing, etc..

"Oh that's cool that you like reggae clubs. Maybe we can go to one sometime. You should give me your number"
(as she bags your avocados)

blah blah blah

Really? In all the 3rd world cities I've lived in, tons of people go out every single night. They have less money, but they also have a lot less responsibility and less incentive to work.

There are not many places in Latin America where jogging or biking during the day is too dangerous.

I've been to some pretty run-down Central American cities, and I've never felt scared going for a jog doing the day. Hell, I spent a week in Monrovia this Summer and went for a jog everyday. Probably a good idea to leave the ipod behind, but if you stay on somewhat crowded streets I doubt anything bad will happen to you.

Aside from jogging, home exercises are pretty good too. Push-ups, sit-ups, and planks all work, assuming you can't find a gym or pool. I like to read for an hour or two, and then maybe check out some coffee shops and markets. Daytime is a great place to practice the language and meet some girls, maybe try to set something up for later that night.

Most major cities should have some historical or cultural attractions too, maybe you can look into day-trips into the surrounding area.

For me the issue with jogging is not threat of robbery, but rather the streets being too busy with cars and full of potholes, etc. Having said that, if you look around you can usually find a quiet enough street.

Other workouts:
-Running up and down stairs (neighbors might think you are crazy)
-Jumping rope (with or without a real rope)
- running in place, doing lunges, etc.
- squats (if too easy try placing your feet much wider and doing 40 reps. You'll feel the burn.
- Fill empty bottles with sand to make cheap weights to lift. (free)

Learn how to make money online or get a hobby.
If your only purpose in life is to get laid, and you're not getting laid, then you're essentially failing at life. If you have other things going on then you can focus on other things when you're not pounding pussy.

Jog the parks.
Usually have some Moms there with their kids, if you're ok with that.
