A lot of your basics can be researched on the vanilla sites like Lonely Planet, Expat Chronicles/Blogs, Numbeo. People put the information out there so don't forget to use it. Pairing up the intel here gives a good start. Look into any organizations like Internations or the Rotary Club or a church. Its more exciting to play it by ear but is more costly to do so. Pipeling is good to, if you ask the girls the right questions. They usually get excited and want to help you get settled in.

b) Travel to a new location within the Region, about every 5-7 weeks - $300 - I am of the belief that probably, it would be good to move every 5-7 weeks for a few reasons including that the people in the area get to know you, and could affect picking up opportunities but also safety, since these are 3rd world destinations and my want to target you for economic reasons. Stay long enough to get discounted rent, but not so long that the Locals think that you are long term... no locals will really know your leaving date.

Good effort to create a general budget. I will simply add that such a budget is subject to serious revisions depending on your chosen location. I will provide you an example of what I mean. I chuckled yesterday when I read this comment from Tenerife in an earlier post:

Quote:Quote:

Sadly, flights between SEA and Latam (particularly SA) are painfully expensive. In fact, south america has expensive flights in general.

I flew from the U.S. to South America earlier this year. I obtained a decent price on the flight, which was on sale. While in SA, I researched a flight to Medellin. Although the distance to Medellin was less than half the distance than a flight back to the U.S., the ticket cost more. I began a search and found this to be true of most other flights between SA cities. It actually costs more to fly between SA cities than to fly from the U.S. to SA (based on a limited study of a few airlines).

My point: Your $300 travel budget may apply in SEA, but certainly not in SA. You cannot make such generalized assumptions. You may need to make regional budgets or even City-based budgets. For example, if you wish to fly to a new city every six weeks over a five month period in SA it might cost $2,000 instead of $300. Of course, to avoid high air fares in SA there is always the low cost agony of buses. Not something that I would do.

Having said all this, I do believe that a monthly budget of $2,500 to $3,000 will work in most parts of the world (excluding flights between countries).

I was thinking about that too, but I think the key is to think long-term numbers. What I mean is that if an expense is lower one month or for one trip, don't run out and buy yourself something cool or blow it on partying. Instead, credit it towards the next month or the next location. That way it all balances out.

Certainly would take a bit of self control.

The high costs of flights between SA cities would never have occurred to me. Especially after how cheap it was to fly around SEA. Great info.

Good stuff Fisto! I will be following this with interest as I've been thinking of visiting Peru. Are you going to check Machu Pichu too? Or just slaying lizards and partying? Either way, it'll be a blast! Enjoy man!

Here's another club that's got the best talent according to my middle aged party animal uncle who's lived here for 6 years. It's called Aura and it's also at the mall where Gotica is found only difference is the cover costs 36 dollars and apparently it's where the local celebrities go, good place to network with the rich and famous.
http://www.aura.com.pe/aura_larcomar/ind...l#pgInicio

Because Gotica and Aura are rather large and groups have more space between each other it can feel a little more challenging to approach, Richard Gambler's got an interesting system that may help you get free drinks and prevent failure when hitting up a club solo, check it

Good Places for DayGame

Miraflores
El malecon (walkway along the edge of the cliff) of Miraflores and Barranco
Saturday Miraflores Bioferia (Organic Farmers Market, Behind Parque Reducto)
Parque Kennedy
Gold's Gym (347 Benavides Ave)
Larcomar mall (at the end of larco ave) and Larco Ave
Berlin Ave
Vivanda (high end supermarket 1 on benavides and 1 on jose pardo both in central miraflores)
Wong (high end supermarket near el malecon-Miraflores)
Pardo ave
Arequipa Ave

Best Places to Eat

For Peruvian Seafood Costazul is the best in Lima. $10+ (Berlin 899 in Miraflores) Their ceviche is legendary.

Fast Food and an affordable good quality juicy meat sandwich check out
La lucha sangucheria criolla. $4+ (next to parque kennedy)
Every sandwich is good and their fries are the best i've ever had.

For a Tasty and Affordable Peruvian influenced Sushi (touristy vibe)
Hit up Magma Sushi Lounge. $10+ (San Martin 512 | Miraflores)

For the the absolute best Peruvian influenced Sushi
Maido, costly but fucking memorable. $35+ (Calle San Martin 399, Miraflores)

For the best bang for your buck of authentic Japanese Sushi go to Hanzo, they got killer sashimi and it's as fresh as it gets. $10+(ave conquistadores 598 | San Isidro) (You need a reservation because it's always packed)

For reviews of the best restaurants in Lima and to do your own research check out http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g...egion.html
It's legit.

Here's a valuable tip, because you can only use a peruvian credit card for Groupon http://www.groupon.com.pe/descuentos/miraflores
and Cuponatic deals http://www.cuponatic.com.pe/
it's worth getting a prepaid credit card which shouldn't cost much at the local BBVA bank and that way you will save your ass a bunch of money with food, activities, tours, hotels etc.

It's not popular because it hasn't hit the local tv stations, let alone bars (only "the corner bar & grill" plays it on larco) yet but there are some local dojos in miraflores for muay thai and mma, try giving it a search on google peru google.com.pe and you might find results for whatever piques your interest here.

Also I forgot to mention on sundays in downtown miraflores all of arequipa ave is closed down to allow people to bike, skateboard and rollerblade, plenty of fit girls here as well as noobs on rollerblades, always comical to watch and provides an easy opener if your into teaching.
Rentals for rollerblades and bikes are available here also for dirt cheap.

Where to Get Weed?

Scotian- I'm not worthy of judging the weed here but the one stain I did smoke was not bad, if your looking for a connection you could talk with the skaters hanging out along el malecon in Miraflores or Barranco, people burn up all the time there, if your still empty handed, at night walk north along el malecon right after parque maria reiche there are cool people getting ripped on the park benches, If your a man on a mission for the best bud you want to get your ass out to parque maria reiche in Miraflores on sundays after the sunsets there is a little party gathering weekly known as Hippie Sunday (self explanatory). Also many chicks go here, many of who use soap and deodorant, not only dirty hippies.
The posession of up to 8 grams of bud is legal here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVc3S813uTU
And yes there are bicycle rentals here, google it.

Here are a of couple good resources for local Lima and Peruvian tourism in english.

Here's a directory with 33 gyms: http://www.fcperu.com/site/index.html?opt...2572421204

I know at least a few of those are in Miraflores, and I would assume many of them are in Lima with it being the capital.

This article is from January 2011. At that time the guy said there were about 10 gyms in Lima and 5 black belts. Can imagine quite a bit more now.

Is cheaper than western countries.
Steak is a plenty
Hunting is free and easy

and now... pot is legal.

How is fast internet there?

This placed seems to have gone too long under the radar.

To Add on to Paleo Dude's post about food in Lima:

MIRAFLORES:

Tanta: A bit upscale and expensive by Peruvian standards, but the food is awesome and still cheaper for the same quality of food/ambiance in the U.S.

Hati: The ceviche here is awesome.

Punta Azul: Great ceviche here too, pretty famous and there is literally always a line.

Tavitos: Right across the street from Punta Azul, found it on accident because we didn't want to wait. AWESOME food here fore CHEAP! You can get a menu for $3 or so. Soup, drink, entree. Never saw a gringo in there and I ate here almost every day.

Lobo Del Mar: Again, phenomenal seafood

BARRANCO:

Canta Rana: Really good cooked seafood dishes here and ceviche.

Honestly, most of the other places I ate in Barranco were hole in the wall spots and I just popped in off the street. Peruvian food is phenomenal! The food in other South American countries I have been to has been a bit of a disappointment. Peruvian food is spicy and all around badass. I highly suggest eating seafood there as often as possible while in Lima. Also, the cow heart skewers you buy off the street called "anticuchos" are great. Try to get out of Miraflores and you'll save quite a bit of cash on food and in my opinion, the hole in the wall places are usually better. Centro has some good spots too, can't remember the names, sorry.

Hey Fisto, can you post if you find any good MMA or BJJ gyms? I'm going to study Spanish in Lima in a few months. They are so close to Brazil I would think they would have some gyms. Anyways, I think these gyms are the best places to get a social circle going and make some friends. Everywhere I go I go to a bunch of different gyms and check them out. A lot of places won't even ask for money because they like having Americans especially if you have some talent.

Walked all over Miraflores today, ate some great ceviche and loma saltado for 12 soles ($4.37).

Got some weekly gym prices and good idea of quality of women.

At this rate I'm gonna have a pretty sick data sheet coming.

I'll post pics of the girls soon.
