*Fewer people need to go to expensive universities and colleges. This is a huge waste of young adult productivity (18-23).
After high school, young people would be invited spend four years working for the government instead of going to traditional post-secondary.
During their four years of labour, they would work 30 hrs per week and get free classes for 10 hrs for week. After 4 years, they would have the equivalent of an associates degree with transfer credit if they really want to get a 4 yr degree.
During those 4 years, they would have the college experience in affordable dorm style housing, but they would mostly work, improving the nation. Food and shelter would be provided in addition to a stipend of spending money (enough for the sort of entertainment most college students can afford).
The study would be skill based. Foreign languages, trade skills, computer programming, accounting, etc.
This would not be mandatory, but simply a good option for young people who didn't wanna pay the $75,000 to get a four year degree, but wanted to learn skills and were having trouble getting a worthwhile non-dead end job right out of high school.
Similar to joining the military for a few years, but directed at nation building, rather than national defense.
*Incentivise marriage. Make it a clearly stupid move for women to put men through the divorce ringer. Two parent homes are more economically feasible than single parent homes.
*Intercity high speed train transportation.
Put high speed trains between places with lots of employment and places where people can afford to live.
*Outlaw the word 'creepy.'
*Outlaw political ads and political campaign spending. Instead, require politicians running for office to answer a questionaire on issues and have a single website the reports the answers. Have people make their decisions based on the real issues.
I know most of these ideas are never going to happen and some may sound completely stupid to some people, but they are a few ideas that have been floating around in my head and I'm interested in hearing some feedback as well as your ideas.
