MJ is such a big swinging dick that I'm convinced he purposely wears ugly ass shit and has been growing that Hitler Stache as a "fuck you" to anyone who dares question him.

Would love to see some legit tips on suiting up: I like to think I got some knowledge but its always nice to learn something new.

For example - been getting ticket pockets and pick stitching done on my MTM suits lately and it's a nice way to add some details to a suit. Also thinking about trying the huge lapel look that Tom Ford seems to love.

pheonix500000 - Some of the well-known retailers sell shirts that have a custom fit. Just got to know your size. Otherwise, take your shirts to a tailor and get them fitted. Depending on where you live I can give some recs.

Suits are some of the greatest men's clothing deals now, because the demand has been so low for so long. You can pick up decent suits for very low prices if you use the discount men's outlets.

Here's some popular articles on wearing suits:

Brooks Brothers has always been good to me. Charles Tyrwhitt is similar. Bonobos. Jcrew and Lands End if you're looking for more casual/younger. BR sometimes.

I think the suit MJ is wearing in the pic is more about the style at that particular time. The more form-fitting suit has come back in the last few years, but you don't see a lot of corporate types going that route. Most jocks probably still favor a cut with more room in it, with only the guys that are really into fashion going with the more tailored cut.

I still struggle w/the suit sleeve length cut. I have the length below my pinky bump but above my wrist bump. I have long arms and legs.

Another issue is how trim should the shoulder sleeves width and arm sleeves width be. Currently, I buy the trim or slim cut, and keep the width. Working out ruins your proportions for "very-fitted" suits. I've opted for form-fitting but not skin-tight suit that you see in GQ- aka good shoulder, good length, tapered torso, but not overly tight.

Some more thoughts and explanations would be good, but I cant seem to find any good sources of information online. I've been relying on intuition and verbal confirmation of seeing other people dress (somewhat unreliable way of learning, but mehhh).

At the end of the day, looking good isn't an "ALL or NOTHING" proposition, its an improvement on whatever you have now.

I don't care what era he's from MJ is out here looking like Steve Harvey with the zoot suit. Not a good look at all.

Good point. 2003 vs 2013 NBA Draft class vividly illustrates that.

^^^ Thank God the baggy suits have been buried for the time being.

I recently started following this FB page called African Men Killing It: https://www.facebook.com/africanmenkillingit

Lots of good fashion ideas, especially for brothas.

Speakeasy, I'm a huge fan of the jeans with collared shirt, sweater, tie and blazer look. It's how I'm most comfortable dressing. You're casual, but still put-together.

Yeah, that's a dope look. Unfortunately where I live, there's only like 5 days a year where it's cold enough to be able to do that.

Seconded on Timoteo's comment. Fall is my favorite season, both fashion wise and the fact the east coast summer heat dies out.

One of the better dressed athletes around is Henrik Lundqvist, the goalkeeper for the NY Rangers. He's a HUGE fan of the tailored suit. He gets his chops busted by his teammates all the time (hockey players are mostly meatheads), because they think his suits are tight. When they travel, most guys are in some off-the-rack, ill-fitting slop (if they're wearing a suit at all, as opposed to a jacket and some random slacks), but he gets all his suits made. In a profile on Bryant Gumbel's "Real Sports" some time back, he talked about how he likes to FEEL the suit.

No doubt. Early Spring and Fall give you more options in the Northeast...

I recently started following this FB page called African Men Killing It: https://www.facebook.com/africanmenkillingit

This page reminds me of a fascinating(and somewhat bizarre) sub-culture in the Democratic Republic of the Congo called 'sapologie', in which cats don expensive European fashion(often times suits) as a way to express theselves. It started out as a way to rebel against Mobutu Sese Seko, when he rose to power and banned all Western clothing instead opting for traditional African clothing and the abacost. CNN did a a great article on it. Below are are videos illustrating the culture a bit.

Sporting only the most stylish designer labels, wearing only meticulously matched colors, the Congo's dandies are the very embodiment of sartorial elegance.
Known as "Sapeurs," these dapper dressers are a Congolese subculture devoted to the cult of style. In Brazzaville and Kinshasa -- the capitals of neighboring Republic of the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo -- they stand out among the widespread poverty, strutting the streets like walking works of art.

They are moreso peacocking in the Mystery Method vain, and thus very tacky with the dressing game, but its still interesting and funny to watch.

Here's a music video a group of 'Sapeurs' made:

Great post iWin. I've always felt African men are among the best dressers period, especially those from West Africa (Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, etc). I got a homeboy from Ghana and went to some independence day event his peoples were having. Man, those dudes do not play around with their haberdashery game. It's just part of their culture to dress well no matter one's station in life.

The success of Ozwald Boateng (Ghanaian descent) is a testament to that. First black man to have a shop in London's exclusive Saville Row.

Yeah, man some of those cats above were really sharp. I'm a huge fan of Ozwald not only because of the fashion game, but but his intellect especially when it comes to the development of Africa. The godfather of the movement is huge world music artist called Papa Wemba. There's another long but great doc about Sapologie a.k.a Kitendi(Religion of the Cloth in the Lingala language), called 'Le Roi de la Sape' or 'The King of the Sapeurs' in English. I really recommend it.

As an aside, if you guys are looking to diversify your musical tastes I also recommend Papa Wemba albums 'Foridoles' and 'Pole Position'. Amazing albums.
