Does "Bros before hoes" still even apply anymore?

There's less than a handful of guys I know that can even be considered men. Most are overgrown man-boys sitting around playing video games with no purpose in life or direction. So when I get invites to hang out and tell them "I can't tonight I have this girl coming over" I get hit with "Dude you don't hang out anymore" or "Bros before hoes".

So yeah I'd rather hang out and have dinner with a woman and hot sweaty sex that follows. I can't stand the constant negativity and guilt trips thrown at me.

Is this a dead idealogy? Or does it only apply to actual men that you respect?

#1: Bros before hoes.

#2: People who say that usually have neither.

Tell them when they get as good at pulling tail as they are at playing video games the rule will go back into effect.

"Bros before hoes" doesn't apply because you're putting your own desires (sex) first here, not a girl. If it was a choice between taking a girl out to dinner and playing video games with friends, then the rule would apply.

True Scotsman/bros help their fellow men swoop hoes, not impede them with guilt trips and subconscious or conscious cock-blocking.

My sense is that "bros before hoes" mostly applies to stuff beyond the basic day-to-day choice of who to spend the night with. It's about, when push comes to shove, who you pick. When a girl, say, tells you your best buddy is a "loser" or a bad influence--and shouldn't kick it with him anymore--do you kick him or her to curb?

Well I got invited to go to see a friend's hardcore band play with Biohazard in Atlantic City tonight. I also got booty called by one of my regulars. AC is a 3 hour drive plus gas and tolls to a guaranteed sausage fest. The other is dinner at home and sex with an anything goes girl. Tough choice.

Have any of them given you the extended version of the speech?

I would always want my friends to get laid. Friends are supposed to be happy when good things happen to each other.

The whole point of "Bros before hoes" is to put your buddies interests in front of women's interests. But in general, you should be a good friend and put his interests in front of most other people's interests. That's why he's your friend.

If she was a legitimate girlfriend I would. If it was regular concert I would as well. But its my friend's band. Its more of a social gathering than a concert really. I don't bring girls around my friends usually.

Self above all. Nobody else is going to look out for you if you don't look out for yourself.

Bros before hoes means don't fuck your friends gf, etc. It doesn't mean waste your life on PS3 and Doritos because other dudes can't figure out how to live life.

Depends on what kind of a girl she is. Is she submissive, quiet, and just watches things? Is she the kind of girl you can say whatever you want? If so I'd just bring her, that way you can get laid and have fun with your friends. I wouldn't even pay attention to her, just bring her along, sit next to her at the concert, and then chill with your buddies afterwards as she trails behind you.

See that's the thing. There's resentment there if you don't give in to social pressure. It's not like I'm choosing poosy over helping my friend out that's broken down on the side of the road.

You bitch about your friends a lot.

It sounds like your friends are dead weight or you are the problem because you're high maintenance and feminine.

Either way, a course correction is in order.

I don't have these "guy issues." Women have a lot of drama in their relationships. Men should rarely have drama and bullshit.

I realize that men have become increasingly feminized and thus male relationships are more closely resembling female relationships.

That should be a trend to counter.

If you can't even have a meal with guy friends without their being check drama, something is fundamentally wrong.

If you can't hang out with guy friends, something is wrong.

The question is whether the problem is with your friends or whether the problem is with you.

Remember, if there are multiple failed relationships, the one person in common with all of those relationships is you.

You know what it is MikeCF? I have this big crew from long ago. But I have my new circle I develop from work and career. It's hard to balance and hard to intermix people from either circle.

Can I bring my tattooed metalhead friends around my circle of senior managers of corporate companies? Will it reflect badly on me and hurt my work?

Can I bring these corporate dudes to hardcore shows, tattoo shops or shitty local bars where I hang sometimes?

It's hard to be your whole entire self all the time. I'm a complicated person I guess.

I can't be the only guy with these kinds of issues.

^ well there you go.

Why not post that situation as a question? That would get a lot more fruitful discussion since you are not the only person with such issues.

Bottom line if they are true friends (even beta) and good all around dudes they should respect that you are getting laid. That's the 'man code' I grew up with and anyone trying to shame you into not 'hanging with the guys' bc you are getting laid sucks.

I realize this is a bit of a different situation with the friend's concert and all, but still they should respect your decision. AC is a long ride too it's not like it's 15 minutes away. For people with nothing going on it their lives I guess it's an 'event' but screw that mentality.

Moreover, maybe it's just me but "Bros before hoes'" IMO always meant sort of the 'guys night out' one night a week/month thing BUT with dudes who were either married or had serious girlfriends. In fact, in my experience it's often called by dudes who tend to be former guys who partied a lot but settled down but aren't afraid to 'call you out' on that one night a month when THEY decide they want to mix it up. I don't even think twice about blowing them off now, and if they protest just say 'dude where were u when I was out a gazillion times the past month" etc.

IMO they should respect the player getting laid. I know I sure did when I was really beta.

You have the wrong set of friends then. Basically they are making the case of "Stop being selfish and only do what YOU cant to do, be selfless and only do what *I* want you to do"

If you're not man enough to ditch people like that in your life, maybe you don't deserve that hot piece of ass bootycalling you. If ANY "friend" makes you feel OBLIGATED to do shit that you don't want to do, then that's not a freind. . .that's a boss.

Sounds like you're getting one-itis over some male friends. . .[Image: gay.gif]
