My first blog post is about some cities that I've been interested in lately.

The more I use wordpress the more I realize how versatile this platform is and how much I have to learn about using it.

I'm mostly using this to just organize my thoughts on this someplace other than facebook.

I'd appreciate any comments/advice related to what you guys see on the blog.

Also, is anyone making money off their blog?

Naughty, Gmanifesto, etc.

I really enjoyed your blog, especially the post about the 7 cities for the young, mobile, and global. That was really relevant since I just got a location independent business running and I'm looking to relocate. I am strongly considering a trip to Thailand/Philippines sometime between March and May.

Your blog hasn't been updated since September but you are probably mad busy travelling so that is understandable. Let us know when you add some more posts - I would love to read them.

Hi Phoenix,

Thank you, as of two hours ago I finished a 101 page thesis so naturally my attention has been elsewhere.

I'm still deciding the specific direction I want my blog to take. What I am most vehemently avoiding is this blog becoming another cookie-cutter lifestyle design blog.

Despite having gotten a lot of value out of these sorts of blogs, they are too repetitive and the market is way too saturated at this point. People should drive a niche further within this area than the general "live your dreams to the fullest" content they keep regurgitating.

I wrote a blog entry about travel, cities, and then water finance. This illustates pretty well the identity issues my blog is facing.

One area I am considering strongly going into is how people can strategically develop in themselves a unique competitive advantage through their travels.

I'd be a patron of a blog that got into strategy backed with sound economic logic. For the record, i call BS on the four hour work week movement.. although the promise sound amazing it does not sound practical for the majority of the people. I actually recently scheduled myself with an "international career advisor" to see how I can turn my career internationally, so definitely interested in what you have to say.

Currently reading, "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" Good shit.

Even though I used the 4HWW to create a successful "muse" I am inclined to somewhat agree with you. Productizing is really hard and you have to juggle so many different skillsets at once to make an online muse work. Technical/IT, Marketing/Copywriting, Distribution and more. To start off as a beginner and have to learn all these at once is really challenging.

It is much easier for a beginner to focus on developing a really in-demand and portable skillset for freelancing like consulting, tutoring, graphic design, etc. With freelancing you still have the freedom to do what you want, but it is much more straightforward.

Then you niche it down to a more specific market to increase your value (and income). An example would be niching down to web design for realtors looking to gain exposure. If you used to be a member of your target market (ex: you used to be a realtor) then you have a better idea what your clients want and can provide even more value.

This interesting post nicely explains the pros and cons of freelancing vs productizing.

Once you get to the point where you have a great skillset and are earning a solid freelance income - THEN you can think about productizing.

I'm thinking of releasing a digital product similar to an ebook, but more hands-on and actionable.

The niche I'm considering is study abroad and internships abroad in Asia. The target market would be undergraduate, gap-year, recent graduates, and graduate students who are looking to get experience in the Asia-Pacific region.

Any comments, reflections, feedback, or suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't know about 4 hour, but there are guys on this forum successfully living the mobile lifestyle. More realistic, though, is putting in close to a full workday. Especially if you have a service business. If you have a product business, then the "4-hour workweek" may be more realistic after a lot of refinement to your business process. And as someone else said, starting up a product business is pretty much a nightmare in terms of the work involved. I think of it like a marathon. Have enough stamina, and you'll get there.

I think it is a decent idea but your main hurdle is going to be convincing students to spend money on your product. The college student market is notoriously known as "thieves" (I was one too). They tend to not have much money to spend.

Your plan should be to test out the demand (and more importantly willingness to pay) before you actually do a huge write-up.

You are totally right man. There are two things though - in the short term I am hesitant to use my real name on the blog for privacy reasons. Also, I don't know how to go about listing all my accomplishments without sounding like a pompous jackass.

In this age, is it possible to launch a blog without people finding out your true identity?

I'm bumping this thread to remind YoungMobileGlobal that he has a blog and that he should add content to it more frequently. You've got a lot of quality posts on this forum that could be put on your site. Your daily business blog is also something that should go on the site as well, a lot of people like reading the daily struggle it takes to accomplish a goal.

If you're still worried about people finding your true identity, its too late. I read one of your articles in Escape From America and saw your name.

I think its the right time for you to monetize your site and since you enjoy what you do for your site it will give you huge benefit that will attract ton of traffic then after few tweaks and little bit SEO your site will be making money on auto pilot.

Yeah, wordpress can really do us a lot. Let us just dig deeper and also with long experience using it, we can know many features that helps makes our tasks lot easier or faster.

Me, I have a my own website and the way I am promoting my site is I am using this extremely powerful WP affiliate plugin. It really helped me a lot, with just one click, all of my keywords are converted to an affiliate links.

Wow, i just browsed through this thread , so much useful info. gonna be busy checking out all the links.
Its not easy building a community but slow and steady i'm getting there. I'm uploading a new picture gallery as we speak, it will be online today. As some one said on this thread, people want to see pictures. I had to remove the old 80 picture gallery because i was receiving many many (death)threaths from a Cambodian forum. I blurred out the faces now and added 220 extra pics. I'd like to visit South East asia (and maybe some of the girls) again

I wouldn't want to see pictures where the faces are blurred out though. If I was running a blog where it was all about hooking up with girls whilst travelling I'd probably not put myself in any pics yet take shots of the girls if I wanted to show them off.

P.S.
Where are the pics on your site?
