Are you drinking habits changing with age?

I've been drinking less and less the past couple of years. While I was never a drunkard, I did enjoy many drinks over the course of a weekend.

I like to think I have developed some mental faculties over the years through observation, study, reading, etc, and by drinking, I pollute it. If my mind is a refurbished classic car that now requires high octane gas, alcohol is like filling up with the cheap stuff, and it takes a day or so for my system to get rid of it and return to normal functioning. Taking a half day off to recover from a night out seems like a high price to me now.

Unfortunately, sobriety does makes most nightlife venues intolerable. I don't think I have much partying time left. My best club days are behind me. [Image: sad.gif]

Yep, my alcohol consumption has seen a steady decline since my late teens and early 20s.

Just not worth the hangovers (which seem to get worse as I get older for a given amount of alcohol consumed). And yes, not drinking makes late nights at loud venues seem much less appealing.

I would rarely drink and when I drank, it was to get fucked up.

I'd get fucked up about every month or two. Otherwise I'd just have a few drinks to catch a buzz.

With age comes assets. One bad night of being fucked up and you can lose everything in a bar fight. So no more getting piss drink.

When I do drink, it's 2-3 G&Ts. I basically need to dull my senses in order to talk to women. If my brain is "on," it's not possible for me to carry on a conversation with these women.

MDMA every 2-3 months is nice, too...

Absolutely. I drink fewer but higher-quality alcoholic drinks over the course of a drinking session than I did previously.

You have to know your limits. It's all about maintaining a light buzz. It mellows you out just enough where you can approach and still be sharp and witty.

I'll start with a shot or two then just beer the rest of the night.

To minimize recovery try a glass of water and a multivitamin before bed.

I still drink like a fish, but my body can't handle it, even running lean with coconut h2o, vitamins, cold showers and any other hangover cheat. Back in the good old day I could get up after an hour sleep and run 5-8 miles still drunk. They used to put us in the back of the formation b/c we stunk so bad. Now I'd die.

The biggest thing though now though is the mental fog. It takes me a couple days to get over it. I can push through the physical part with a healthy regiment, but the brain takes time.

Probably time to slow down.

For sure. I'm not a tea-totaller, but I drink a lot less than I did when I was younger. Often on Saturday nights, I'm in bed sleeping by 11pm, and am quite happy with that. I wake up the next day feeling great, and I workout. I do go out on occasion and drink, but not all the time.

I think Day Game is much superior to going to the clubs. There is too much of a power differential in night game and it's not worth it. Women are demi-celebrities at the clubs. Fuck that. With Day Game, you get credit for having balls which levels the power dynamics, and there is no hang over!

Take care of those titties for me.

I drink almost everyday, but four or five of those days a week are only a glass or two of wine, or a cold beer after work.

I know what my limit is to avoid a hangover, and I also know my motivation with a hangover is limited to sex and watching old movies. I get down on myself if I dont do some work everyday, and this, compounded with the depressive qualities of alcohol makes it a loss for me.

I do have a fairly high tolerance for booze and I love whiskey and a good mixed cocktail from my favorite bartenders so like Roosh I can sometimes feel that I am giving myself brain damage.

I did some GHB a few weeks back for the first time and I understand now why it has become so popular within my group of friends.

I am going to see a dope DJ tonight and its been ages so maybe a bump of MDMA......

Drinking screws up my digestion which I need to compliment my lifting/exercise routine. Now in my late 30s I do go out and drink occasionally.

Its either 3 drinks or less, or 8 drinks or more, enough to catch a buzz.

In the past I mainly drank to get drunk. About once every 6 months I still get plastered (8+ drinks), as a reminder why not to make it a weekly or even monthly occurrence.

1 night of heavy drinking can delete 2 weeks of good exercise, so F-that.

Yeah - the drinking thing is weird.

If you have a few shots - you are pretty sober.

If you have too many shots (+20) - you are very likely to end up being completely fucked.

But - and this is just as annoying - if you hold back at around 12 shots. You are in a weird inbetween stage where you are too tired/slightly drunk to focus on anything. And not drunk enough to party or pass out. So - you are just a bundle of energy with nothing to channel it into.

I hate getting drunk - and being half cut is annoying. So - I guess I am doomed to a life of just drinking small amounts - where I am stilll pretty much sober afterwards. Still - I love the taste of bourbon so it is not too bad.

I've stopped taking as many vodka shots and switched to drinking sake. I also have a full-blown addiction to sushi. Sushi+sake is delicious. I drink earlier in the night and quit before 11pm.

Sometimes I dont even drink alcohol in the clubs/bars anymore. I've drank more soda-bitters than almost anybody in any club in LA. hah.

I am still in my 20s, but really cut down on the drinking (not trying to get a DUI). I've started smoking more weed and cigarettes, something has to give. =/.

Yeah, I don't like drinking as much anymore. It's not even necissarily the drinking I don't like, it's the hangovers. It's all good though, I still like to go out and not drink. I'll dd my friends. I have no problem going out and staying sober. I just got a new car and it's making me drink even less than before because I won't drink and drive.

"Does Aging Increase Sensitivity to Alcohol?
Limited research suggests that sensitivity to alcohol's health effects may increase with age. One reason is that the elderly achieve a higher blood alcohol concentration (BAC) than younger people after consuming an equal amount of alcohol. The higher BAC results from an age-related decrease in the amount of body water in which to dilute the alcohol. Therefore, although they can metabolize and eliminate alcohol as efficiently as younger persons, the elderly are at increased risk for intoxication and adverse effects (25).

Aging also interferes with the body's ability to adapt to the presence of alcohol (i.e., tolerance). Through a decreased ability to develop tolerance, elderly subjects persist in exhibiting certain effects of alcohol (e.g., incoordination) at lower doses than younger subjects whose tolerance increases with increased consumption (26). Thus, an elderly person can experience the onset of alcohol problems even though his or her drinking pattern remains unchanged. These conclusions are supported by laboratory experiments with rats that indicate age-related changes in tolerance to alcohol (27)."

I have spent the last 10 years studying hard, working hard and training hard. This also applies to drinking alcohol.

I would drink once every couple months but when I did it was all out.

I have always been perplexed and admired those who have a "glass of wine with dinner".

That sounds like the most boring thing on the planet to me. I would rather stay sober and focus on my nutrition and training.

I spent over 3 months consulting with MD's, nutritionists, biologists, and developed a vitamin and mineral stack along with certain habits like ice water therapy, yoga, and nutrition to remove all traces of a hangover and brain fog. It worked like an elegant machine for 5 years.

In the last year the cracks started showing. So I decided to cut out all alcohol and never felt better across all spectrums.
It's unlikely I will go back. Elite health = elite wealth.

One thing I learned (the hard way) is to stay the fuck away from Jager. Or mixing anything sugary or caffeinated with the alcohol. No good comes out of it. Keeping your liquor "neat" does wonders for a hangover.

I want to give Manhattan's a try. Seems clean enough.

2 oz whiskey
1/2 oz vermouth (sweet or dry)
1 dash bitters
Cherry for garnish

Anyone drink these?

^ Sounds tasty but I only do clear liquors now.

I can do a lot of vodka & tonics with lime and wake up the next day fine. I just choose not to.

Incidentally, a 2 pound bag of Epsom salt is a great hangover cure. Take a hot shower. Then soak in a salt bath for 20-30 minutes.

Have a quart (a liter for you euros) of water near you, though, as you'll feel dehydrated as fuck.

Once you drink the water and then your body temp cools down, you'll be good to go.

I went to hang with a local forum member(dude3737) the prior Friday and his hookup gave us free drinks. The bartender made them strong and I woke up with a shitty hangover the next morning. That was actually the first genuine hangover I've had in years now. As I've gotten older, I'm definitely more careful about my drinking and I'm really not into binging. I typically have 2 or 3 Tanquerey and tonics which is a pretty clean drink and never have any problems. I don't remember the last time I was sloppy drunk. I only drink to get a buzz and be social, not to get hammered. I learned my lesson after a life-changing hangover in Vegas years ago. I was down for an entire day recovering and never felt so bad in my life. After that I said, never again with this shit. Fuck binge-drinking. Since then I've held it at 3 or 4 drinks max for the night. Good enough to feel good, but not enough to feel like shit the next day.

I cant really get drunk anymore the hangovers get so bad, I literally feel like killing myself the next day. It fucks up the entire day after. Ill drink 2-3 beers at most and thats it, no hard stuff.
I also stopped smoking weed after 15 years of being high pretty much constantly. Guess Im getting old...

I still drink a lot, but I've been cutting back because I have bigger fish to fry.

I developing a distrust of alcohol.

I still indulge, but the sense that it might be interrupting my game doesn't sit well. I don't want to play myself.

The other thing is that I'm spoiled because I get free drinks at certain bars, so I feel weird buying over-priced alcohol knowing that I can get the same shit at the bodega for much less money.

Vodka and tonics have become my go to for avoiding a hangover, as long as the vodka is top shelf. A trick with those is if you start drinking too much, have the bartender top it off with tonic only, so you look like your still drinking. Staying classy while sobering up.
