Marriage is for Broke Men

I've been listening to Tommy Sotomayor for about a year now and I have been pleased to finally see him getting more attention on the forum lately. This video is just a couple of days old and contains a lot of good points about marriage and why it doesn't add up for the modern western man of means. I highly recommend that all of you guys give this video a full view:

Eddie Murphy presented the counter-argument to this in one of his skits. He stated, "Losing half of your million and you're still with 500K, but lose half of your 50K and you've only got 25K."

In other words, divorces are hardest on those who are poor vs. those who are rich.

So although Tj is right that marriage is bad deal for rich men, he is wrong to logically infer from this that it would be good for broke men. In LSAT terms, this is a mistaken negation.

In an age where only relative income mattered, I would have been incined to agree with Sotomayor. However, in the age of imputed income, forced labor and imprisoment over child support, that is no longer valid. If you are poor and get divorced, it might not matter that your wife can't take any money from you: the system might grind you to dust just in case.

A family member of an acquaitance is going through this currently. He is very poor, a classic drunk vagabond who has only rarely had a job. Being unable to pay child support to ex-wife, he was first sentenced to 1 year, and now they're sending him to dig ditches for a highway under construction. It's so sad that it's hilarious. If you take out a loan and can't pay it back, you just end up with nothing to your name (unless it's explicitly proved that you were a cheat who never intended to pay it back), but you can go to jail or forced labor over child support. The ministry of social care is the ultimate loan shark.

I think tommys argument was more like if your a Millionaire your stupid to sign a marriage contract because women will want to sleep with you regardless of if you marry them simply because your rich.

That's why you marry a women from a rich family or with a similar income level. You don't lose anything if you divorce.

RE: Tommy Sotomayor.

That's a good overall message in the video, but homie repeats himself like 20 different times. And, do you think "Sotomayor" is his real name? I don't. It just seems strange that he would pick that, of all names, as his professional name.

I can't say for sure if that is his real name. He is supposedly of Panamanian heritage so it wouldn't be totally implausible (assuming he is telling us the truth about his heritage).
