First Dates Episode 5: UK TV

I discovered this programme last night. Not the kind of show I would usually watch however it was surprisingly pretty interesting as the way it is set up allows you to easily see some great examples of good and bad game in this show.

The set up is very simple. Basically couples meet for a first date and it is filmed. They go to a restaurant and the meal they share is recorded. At the end of the date the couples say if they want to see each other again. (They have gay dating too but we can skip those parts.)

Ok so first here is the link to the episode I watched last night. Episode 5. You have to watch an advert or two before it starts but it's worth it. I am hoping non UK residents can access it:

Episode 5:
We meet a few different types here from cocky guys who say they have good game, types with good banter, beta provider types and a guy with some kind of issues and who has never had a date before. The set up means we switch back and forwards between couples throughout the show but I'll break down the couples here:

Good game Example:
First we meet a black dude called Lewis. In walks his date Michelle who is a early 30' something ugly girl, typical Essex girl but she is outgoing and she has a thing for black guys. They order a drink and Lewis says you look good "give me a twirl". He is laid back and cool. You can see the boy has some game already and confidence, he is used to talking to women. They sit down and he says "Let's just forget about the sexual chemistry between us for a moment" and she starts laughing and going doe eyed. It's in the bag for him, case closed.

This was a good example of good date vibes to give off. Lewis was relaxed and confident and sexualised the conversation early in a jokey non-needy way. He no doubt pumped and dumped.

Game trumps looks:
Next up we meet Daniel. Daniel has only had one date before and he seems to have an issue of some kind, he stands awkwardly and seems uncomfortable in his own skin. I had zero hope for this guy and was preparing to cringe at his date with the tall blonde girl. However the boy actually turns out to be quite cool in a weird way. His banter isn't too bad, better than many guys I know and although it is obvious she would never bang him she does seem to genuinely enjoy his company. She leads the convo but he holds his own and is more confident than he appears.

This boy will be ok despite his awkward manner. He will get some bangs and no doubt find a GF in the future. Not a lost cause as I originally expected. He has potential.

Terrible Game Example:
Next up is Lewis who is 27 and a club promoter. He has a bit of chav in his style and speech, somewhat cocky. He says he has been playing the field for 18 months where he bangs girls after four dates or as he puts it "smashes their back doors in" but would like a girl friend. This guy as a promoter should have good game, he must be surrounded by girls every weekend and know how to play it and have good banter skills. Then Megan walks in and she is an attractive blonde girl obviously well above what he is used to looks wise because he leaks awful game from the first second. When he sees her all he can do is say 'fuck' as though he can't believe his luck. He has no idea about not telegraphing interest it seems. Within a minute he says to her "you're brilliant, why haven't you got a boyfriend?" It gets worse from there and any scraps of attraction she may have had is ebbing away. Next he tells her how she has a great personality and my head was in my hands. She speaks quite well but he constantly says 'fuck' in every sentence and is uncouth. The funny thing is we then cut away to him doing a piece to camera where he says how it's easy to bang women by just 'talking bollocks' to them. We return to their table and he is inviting her to a football game, she obviously has no intention of going and he has blown it but she is toying with him and he is chasing like a puppy after a ball. It is embarrassing to see but it gets worse and he delivers a killer line that I never thought anyone would say..."I don't want to scare you, let's be honest with each other..." and so any shred of dignity he had on this date is gone. He has gone to begging. And finally he says I want to marry you, I shit you not. He goes for a kiss and is re-buffed. The bill comes and he insists on paying. He does not realise he has zero chance with her, how the fuck does he not realise? He tells the camera that he is used to dating pretty girls but that is obviously BS based on how he leaked such terrible game with this girl. In the end she says she only wants to be friends and he gets moody and says 'maybe one day'.

A terrible example of game in the presence of an attractive girl. He no doubt gets laid and must have some game but he met an attractive girl and he went all puppy dog and into a begging frame. She would never have fucked him as she seemed like the type who wanted an older 'man of the world' type BUT he could of kept his dignity. This was diabolical to watch.

Boring Guy Game:
Next up we meet the girl first who is a Chinese girl who moved to England, she seems outgoing and obviously the fact she came to London from China on her own and is making a go of things demonstrates she has drive and adventurous spirit. She wants to meet a Pierce Brosnan type. Then we meet her date who is Steven from Liverpool a marine biologist with little personality. They do the most ridiculous air kisses I have ever seen. This guy is evidently not overly confident with women and she has no attraction for him already. He tells her after a minute that it's his first time in London. This blows her mind and lowers his value to zero in her eyes. She has come from China, made a life in a foreign country and he has never left his city. She finds that hard to understand and in typical Chinese fashion is direct enough to tell him so. He justifies it by saying he has a child in Liverpool but then she asks him how he can have a daughter if he never got married. He traditional family upbringing and values make her look down on him. She berates him for it and comes across as a prejudiced superior cunt. If I was him I'd have walked out and left her at this point but he is beta and sits and qualifies himself to her. He is a nice beta guy who then rewards her rude cuntish behaviour by telling her she looks attractive. He has no chance but tells the camera he wants to date her. The bill comes and he insists on paying saying what a great time he had and how much he enjoyed it. Beta to the extreme. She tells him there is no future between them and he takes it ok like a good beta.

He was a decent guy but he should have stood up for himself and called her out on her superior attitude. He'll be ok but needs to go out on a limb on dates, he will get friend zoned every time if he carries on like he did on the show.

All in all an enjoyable watch in terms of game analysis.

First Dates Episode 5: UK TV

I watched all episodes of that programme. Very entertaining, and gives great examples of what the dating scene of nowadays is.

Channel 4 also had another excellent programme a fews weeks ago called "Why Am I Still Single?". On one side a cringingly beta hipster guy, and on the other side a very masculine-attitude egotistical modern girl. Their stories and their traits are almost a cliché of what modern men and women became. I very much recommend it - lots of material here for forum analysis:
