I think it its getting to a point where people whom *think* they have enough balls to do it.. do it. Before only the people whom knew they could do that would do it. Last night I also happened to re-watch "The Matador" (2005) which I definitely recommend for RVF readers. It's kind of set up as an Alpha meets Beta dark comedy. Here's the Bull Fight scene, where "Julien" shows "Danny" some assassination day game, after Danny calls his bluff about being a real hitman.
