2.) Wu Tang Clan- 36 Chambers

3.) Tupac- All Eyez On Me

4.) Gang Starr- Moment of Truth

5.) Dead Prez - Lets Get Free

6.) The Roots- Illadelph Halflife

7.) Hieroglyphics- Full Circle

Decent list but The Chronic>Doggystyle, Paid In Full should be on there and Only Built 4 Cuban Lynx is the best Wu Album (yes it is better then Liquid Swordz)

I'll post my own top then, have to think on it.

Good lists.

You also have to throw Beastie Boy's Pauls Boutique on there. That album changed hip-hop with the sampling. You could never make an album like that today.

Mobb Deep's The Infamous has to be on any top ten list.

Tupac's best album was Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z., in my opinion.

Also, AZ's Sugar Hill album, Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back, NWA Straight Outta Compton,
Eric B and Rakim's - Paid in Full and countless other albums from 1992-1997.

Top Five Nobody else talks about

1) N.W.A. - everybody labels these cats as gangsta but their music was political, think public enemy with f-bombs...Opened the door for a ton of people..

2) Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Links

3) Main Source - Breaking Atoms- looking at the front door

4) KRS-One - Criminal Minded

5) Common - Like Water for Chocolate...I thought this was his best work..
tie
5) Cypress Hill - chicano hop

Honorary award: MC Hammer - I remember people clowned him for signing endorsement deals, said he "sold out"...then when they saw his mansion turned around and did the dam same thing...probably did more to introduce hip hop to "mainstream" america than any other rapper....

This is a good list. Wouldn't be my top ten but I could see why a lot of these would be on someone elses top ten. And a couple would be on my top ten. I would want to add some Aceyalone, Aesop Rock, Weathermen, and a couple more on there, but it looks good.

He's basically using Mode One (Direct Game) telling the Lizards that he only has his hard dick to give them. Thus, they aren't getting no dinner, clothes, time, relationship from him and the only tangible thing they are going to get from him is some chewable candy(bubble gum).

Glad to see a couple of people mention UGK; gotta show some love for the South on these lists.

If I wasn't so hungover I'd try to put together a list of the Top 10 lines/lyrics and/or Top 10 worst rappers. I'd put Soulja Boy at numero uno.

Apologies for bumping a thread almost two years old, but I've been getting heavy into hip hop again over the last year and always down with new recommendations. Houston was kind enough to drop a lot of knowledge for me earlier. OG, I'm also curious like julio26 - what's your playlist consist of for modern hip hop?

I like to listen to a lot of gangster rap, UGK is the shit, the last album they dropped (self titled I believe) is a classic in my opinion. The Pimp C solo albums are good too, although I'm less of a fan of Bun B.

The best album I've coped recently is Slim Thug, "Boss of all Bosses" who's also from TX and the album bangs hard.

Other gangster shit that's classic would have to be 8ball and MJG "On top of the World".

I'd say hip-hop and rap is in a pretty sad state right now, not a lot of good new stuff coming out that's really impressing me. A lot of my favorite groups dropped there best stuff in the 90's (obviously), but then again in the early to mid 2000's (Hiero, Living Legends, etc.) Since then not a lot of great stuff.

Not that it's at all new, but I feel that two underrated albums everyone should bump hard are Nas "Stillmatic" and Wu Tang "Iron Flag". Stillmatic got good reviews, but some how Iron Flag got majorly slept on, in my opinion almost every song on the album is the shit.
