If You Could Visit Any Time Period In History, What Would It Be?

pretty much every point in history SUCKED for black people... so...I don't think it would be a good idea for me...

Oh REALLY?

Great Zimbabwe?
Ghana Empire?
Kush?
Aksumite kingdom?
Mali Empire?
Yoruba Kingdom?
Christian Ethiopia?
...or any number of pre-colonial African empires? I can't imagine these places 'sucked' for black people.

How about Egypt when it was under Nubian rule?

...or Ancient Persia, one of the most culturally tolerant empires of the ancient world? They didn't seem to have any problems with black people, either.

...or even Ancient Rome, which was much more cosmopolitan than movies like to let on. The Romans were more cultural bigots rather than racists, so they didn't really care what your skin looked like as long as you acted Roman).

Unless I'm mistaken, not even Medieval Europeans really looked down on black Africans as long as they were Christian. Really, the world only began to "suck" for black people a few hundreds of years ago, when the slave trade began. Before then, the concept of hating someone specifically for their skin color was a pretty foreign concept.

This would probably sound infantile, but I would of gone back to the time of the Dinosaurs, with safety secured, I would of loved to have traveled from plain to plain, and see how they would lived and socialized with each other, plus the fact of seeing 30 plus T-rex's walking about, fighting & killing each other would of been f****** amazing.

Then barbecue sample each of them. Pterodactyl buffalo wings, grilled T-Rex thigh meat, Diplodocus neck bone stew etc.

Obviously I could pick anywhere and any time in history and would find it interesting.

But I always entertained the notion of what U.S. city would be interesting?

Las Vegas in the 1950's/60's (mob-controlled and un-Disneyfied).

Florida in the 60's (NASA era).

NYC Roaring 20's

Philadelphia in the 1770's

Old West 1870's

Plymouth 1620

I would go back to about 1400 A.D., travel up and down the Americas inoculating the North American Indians, Aztecs, Mayans, and Incans against smallpox and teaching them how to make steel. Gives them 92 years to get ready.

I would go to the Big Bang and Pre-Big Bang period. I would go as far back as the time machine allowed.

I want to know how we formed.

I would also like to talk to the people who had supernatural powers;

Jesus
Confucius
Plato
Aristotle
Nostradamus
Tesla
Einstein
Buddha
Rasputin
Crowley
Oracle of Delphi
Bruce Lee
Rubirosa
Casanova
etc.

And, I want to meet all my relatives going back to the very beginning.

I saw this. It was cool. Their defense was awesome.

Quick fact is that Blacks (along with others) were present in North America far long before Columbus.

Not to turn this into a race thread but there is no evidence of blacks in the Americas before Columbus. If there were we'd see the DNA evidence in the indigenous population. And there were no ocean-going vessels from pre-colonial West Africa. This is an afrocentrist myth that gets tossed around.

But then this would mean no fly Latinas. I dunno if I like this plan.

I'd like to be an elite Athenian Aristocrat anytime from 500 BC to 300 BC. The amount of power, influence, and control you had as a man in that society was unparalleled.

You could execute your wife for any reason and no one could stop you.
You would have vast farmland and boats all throughout the Mediterranean.
You'd be able to raise your children however you wanted.
Slavery of any person or any kind to do your bidding.
Wars against neighboring city-states, which would often result in more money, property, and slaves for your own estates.

The men really had it good back then...

I'd go way way back when people were still living in caves and impregnate every female I could find. This would insure far better breeding stock for thousands of years. No offense, but most of you guys wouldn't be here, as well as:

Liberals
Fatties
Idiots
Feminists
Democrats

or the French. Whatever set of genes that bred them was seriously fucked up.

Everyone interested in Pre Columbian America read 1491 by Charles C Mann. Blow you away if you've never been exposed to those ideas before.

My grandmother was 100% French, my grandfather Jewish. So, I'm basically half French Jew.

It's really an underrated genealogical profile.

Just out of curiosity, as I am developing a series of posts on Christianity, but what are your thoughts on Jesus & Christianity?

I am currently writing a piece about Tolstoy's Ivan Ilyich for the forum, but that is a prelude to thoughts on Christianity.

Any ideas/thoughts/etc?

From what I've read there have been many Jesus-like legends that predated Jesus. Stories of a son of God being born from a virgin. Jesus wasn't the first person this was attributed to. Here is a link to peruse if you are interested in the topic:

The "Golden Twenties" of the last century before the World Economic Crisis hit would not be a bad choice. Places like Paris, Chicago, Berlin must have boiling with kinky stuff happening in clubs and bars. It was the first flash of sexual liberation before the dark decades of WW II and its' aftermath followed and it took until the late sixties of last century to make up again.

No way would I want to live in the past, but I'd be interested in seeing it to answer some questions.

-What was Latin America like before the the Europeans began colonizing it.
-What were the societies that build the great cities of meso-america like? And what did those cities look like at their peak?
-Is the story of Moses real? What was it like for a monotheistic civilization to exist among stronger but hostile pagan societies in the middle east?
-Was Sub Saharan Africa vastly different from Northern Europe in 1200 in terms of development?
-Ancient Egypt at its peak before the Greek/Roman invasions. What did the Egyptians then look like, what were their cities like?
-India before the Turkish/Iranian settlement in the north there
-China while it was getting pillaged and eventually occupied by the Mongols.
-Mongolian occupied Russia and Eastern Europe (Kievan Rus) in the 13th century. How did Mongolia's leaders influence the Russian psyche and how it changed Eastern Europe.
-What were the women like in each of those societies?

But I guess if I did have to go into the past I'd like to see if a historical Jesus actually existed and if the story went down just the way it is written.

Yet again, I agree with you. The future has always been a sort of geeky pastime of mine, I think about it a lot. I want to see wormhole generators, cyborgs....all the shit you see in sci-fi movies/books/comics etc. The Jesus thing also, I mean, you're absolutely correct in your assertion there were many 'Jesus' type myths propagated before him, Horus for example. I think Jesus was a real person, but the myths surrounding him were borrowed from other texts/myths. In the same way that Christmas was a pagan festival and that the new Christian rulers altered dates in order to allow an easy transition for the people they ruled to become 'in tune' with Christianity. It's fascinating.
