You hear about lottery winners who go bankrupt a few years after they get their millions and you think wow their idiots for blowing an oppertunity most people will never have.

Then you read about this dude who is only 23, famous, millions in the bank with millions more in salary assuming he just maintains his athletic performance and now he is losing everything including his freedom. Now he will suffer for years (life sentence at his age is 55 plus years) unless the internal agony of blowing it all drives him to suicide.

Its hard to believe an NFL player could have worse future prospects than Terrel Owens . . .

Crazy story. The circumstantial evidence about what happened that night seems pretty strong. The prosecutor laid out a timeline of what he says happened that night.

Quote:Quote:

For more than 20 minutes, Bristol County prosecutor William McCauley stood in a Massachusetts courtroom Wednesday detailing the events that led to Aaron Hernandez's arrest and subsequent charge of first-degree murder.
With Hernandez, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, standing just a few feet away, McCauley went through a timeline of events – extracted from surveillance videos, cell phone records and cell phone towers – that the prosecution says ended with the execution of Odin Lloyd:
June 16
9:02 p.m.: Hernandez texts a friend out of state, saying "please make it back."
9:05: Hernandez texts Lloyd that he wants to get together.
9:35: Hernandez texts a friend in Connecticut that says "get your ass up here."
10:23: Hernandez texts the same friend, "Hurry your ass up."
McCauley indicated that Hernandez recently had 14 surveillance cameras installed in his home. Video from the cameras show two men arriving at Hernandez's home in North Attleboro. Later footage shows Hernandez with a firearm. At one point, Hernandez says to one of the men that he "can't trust anyone anymore," according to McCauley.
June 17
1:12 a.m.: The three men depart Hernandez's home in a silver Nissan Altima, according to surveillance video, cell phone towers and cell phone records.
Cell towers track their movement south on Interstate 95. At some point, they turn around, then head north before stopping at a gas station on Route 128.
2:10: Hernandez buys gas, a pack of Bubblicious gum and rolling papers.
2:32: The silver Altima arrives at Lloyd's house. Hernandez sends a text message: "We're here."
Lloyd's sister watches Odin Lloyd leave the house and get into the silver Altima. Neighborhood surveillance video shows Hernandez arriving in the neighborhood as well.
Surveillance video tracks the car around Boston.
McCauley explains that during ride back toward North Attleboro, Hernandez tells Lloyd that when they were at a club, Rumor, the previous Friday night, "certain things upset him," including Lloyd talking to some people Hernandez had "troubles" with. McCauley did not indicate how he obtained this information.
Prosecution says the text indicates the "temperature" in the car.
3:07: Lloyd texts his sister, "Did you see who I was with?"
McCauley suggests that this indicates the "temperature" in the car.
Lloyd does not receive a response.
3:11: Lloyd texts his sister again, "Hello."
3:19: Lloyd's sister responds, "My phone was dead. Who?"
3:22: Lloyd responds, "NFL."
3:23: Lloyd: "Just so you know."
By this point, the four men inside the silver Altima have gotten off I-95 on Route 152, near Hernandez's home, McCauley says records show.
3:23 a.m.: McCauley says surveillance video shows the Altima at a fork in the road. McCauley indicates that one way leads to Hernandez's home, the other down a gravel road where Lloyd's body would later be found. Video shows Hernandez's car going down the gravel road behind a group of industrial buildings.
3:23-3:27: People working the overnight in the industrial park hear gunshots.
3:27: Silver Altima is viewed coming out of gravel road.
3:29: Video at Hernandez's home shows the silver Altima pulling into his driveway.
McCauley states that the distance between where Lloyd's body was found and Hernandez's home is a 2-minute drive.
The crime scene:
• According to McCauley, police found five shell casings – three at Lloyd's feet, two some distance away.
• An autopsy showed two wounds to the chest – one near the left nipple, the other near the right nipple.
• Lloyd did not appear to be robbed, as he still had his wallet, phone and keys.
McCauley explained that Hernandez returned the Altima to a rental car agency, with the driver's-side mirror missing. A worker at rental agency discovered a shell casing under the driver's seat, next to a piece of Bubblicious gum. The shell casing and the gum were tossed into a garbage bin, where police later found them.
After McCauley finished, Hernandez's defense team requested their client be granted bail based on the prosecution's reliance on circumstantial evidence. "It is at bottom a circumstantial case," Hernandez's attorney Michael Fee told the court. "It is not a strong case." Bail was denied and Hernandez, who stood expressionless through most of the arraignment, remained in custody.

More and more tidbits are coming out. Hernandez is a straight-up gangster. You have to wonder when he had time to practice and work out - he seems to spend most of his downtime from football shooting people.

On June 13, 2013, a lawsuit was filed against Hernandez in federal court in Florida by Alexander S. Bradley, who claimed that on February 13, 2013, Hernandez had shot him while the two men were riding in a car, following an altercation at a Miami strip club. Bradley allegedly lost his right eye as a result of the incident. Police had been called to assist the wounded Bradley, but he had declined to name his assailant at that time and no arrest was made. Bradley's lawsuit was dismissed on June 17, 2013, four days after it was filed.[22][23]

(CNN) -- Aaron Hernandez, the former NFL tight end charged with murder in the death last week of an acquaintance, is now being investigated in connection with a double slaying in Boston's South End in July 2012, a law enforcement source close to the investigation told CNN. The source gave no indication whether there was any connection between that investigation and Hernandez's current murder charge.

What is known is that the Boston Police Department has located and impounded a silver SUV with Rhode Island registration that police have been trying to find for almost a year, that's linked to the scene of a double homicide in 2012, the source said.
Investigators believe that Hernandez was renting the SUV at the time of those killings, the source said.

How many surveillance cameras are in the Boston area? I know some of the ones mentioned were ones he installed in his own home, but it seems like they have him on camera every step of the way.

To counter dry mouth, even a psychopath probably has some fear associated with murder.

He superficially looks like a true psychopath, so calm with the gun in his hand, and letting the police in when they came to arrest him.

I've worked in prisons, and I guess I'm not much of a criminal type as I can't imagine why this guy would want to sit in a cell for 40 years. The cells are really small, there's two bunks and from the edges of the bunk to the opposite cell wall is only about 2.5 feet.

As one inmate told me, "only one guy can be out of his bunk at once."

You have to shit right there in front of the cellmate in a little integrated toilet with a sink at the top. then there's a little metal desk. Everything is built in, you can't move anything but your plastic covered mattress.

There are many gang fights which cause lockdowns so you are in the cell 23/24 hrs.

That's why when someone starts talking about "you can't let someone disrespect you" I just roll my eyes, and think they don't know what they're talking about, they don't know what fighting over every little tiny incident results in, or they are just a straight idiot.

This dude looks like a straight up thug right? Too bad he's not. I'm from the area he grew up and lived in Bristol (home of ESPN) for a while. He grew up in a house bigger than the one I grew up in. Mom was an admin for the board of Ed or something. Father worked with some people I know and was a really good guy (so I've heard, I didn't know him personally) until he passed away. I think that when he lost his dad, his world started to spiral. Bristol is a giant suburb with a little tiny bit of "hood" in it. It's not like he was out on a corner selling crack or shooting people left and right out there. That's the "persona" he created for himself. Jackass.

I have a personal saying that addresses this phenomenon...

"Your illusions create your reality."

In other words, if you try hard enough to act like you're something you're not, you eventually become that thing, whether you meant to or not. This is how kids from the suburbs go so wrong imitating inner city ghetto kids.

In my opinion, it's why gangster rap, love it or hate it, has such a corrosive effect on our culture. People imitate criminals, take on their behavior and mannerisms and speech, and eventually they take on their thought processes as well.

Eventually they become criminals themselves.

I could tell this guy was that type as soon as I first saw this story, and I don't even watch football...

This glorification of the thug lifestyle that predominates our young culture now is a very dangerous thing, and now it's spreading to much of the developed and developing world, at least in pockets.

I've been targeted by criminals before, in the worst way, who seemed to think I was some kind of softy (funny how they act that way when they're the ones who depend on the pack). Seemed to think I was privileged in some way. Only for me to find out I grew up far harder than they did. It's an irritating realization to come to when you're in that situation.

They were real thugs, no doubt - no fakes. Based on my past, I should have ended up just like them, but I simply chose to make more responsible choices in adulthood than they did.

And these same cats convince themselves that they're the victims of society. It's all in their heads. An illusion they create.

But sooner or later it becomes them.

Just read the prosecution evidence. What a dipshit. Half the evidence they have on him is from his home security system and his cell phone.

The guy sounds like a little bitch. He threw a temper tantrum because the victim talked to people he didn't like at a club.

A little deeper than that. Hernandez has apparently been involved in other shootings, and the "weak link" was talking about it.

Apparently, Aaron Hernandez was a serial killer moonlighting as a football player.

I saw a documentary on pro athletes going broke. Some of the players said they wanted to be rappers and said rapers wanted to be players. I guess now some of the players want to be gangsters. I'm guessing a lot of the gangsters would rather be athletes.

I've met guys like Hernandez but who didn't go as far as he did. On the surface good parents. Mom more in charge of raising the kids. Boy is below average intelligence. Something happens and they seek validation from the thug life thing.

The ones I have met were no good at anything so you could see why they went the way they did. I think it's narcissism with Hernandez. He'll never be Ditka, Winslow, or Gonzalez, so why care about the NFL? It's just a day job to pay the bills while he gets his narcissistic supply by killing. Hernandez was a good player who could have been great, ONE OF the best of his generation. The thing is, with the young people these days anything other than the best is worthless. If you can't be THE best, drop out and rebel against the system that refuses to give you the mass quantities of narcissistic supply you require.

Aaron Hernandez is only an extreme manifestation of a general sickness in our society.

In my pretty extensive experience (published research), intelligence has a huge protective effect, reducing the chances of ending up like this guy or millions of other tools sitting in prison.

It's hard to imagine NOT being able to think about chains of events, how if I buy this illegal gun and bring it with me to bars, where I get in fights about the way someone looks at me, then when I confront "friend" about talking to the people that looked at me funny.....how that can lead to 15,000 days in a row, sitting on a vinyl-covered mattress in a a little concrete box and never seeing the sea, going on a bicycle ride, driving a car, going for a walk in freedom, having sex with a woman again, ever.

In my opinion, if you end up in a maximum security prison, you are almost by definition stupid.

I can see the appeal of the gangster lifestyle on the outside, but I don't get how these guys can be completely nonchalant about prison. I always thought that pussy and procreation were some of the main motivating factors in life. Yet these dudes don't seem to give a fuck about being sent to a place with no access to women and where you're cut off from an children that you do have. it completely boggles my mind.
