Tom Brokaw Explains Canada To Americans (Tribute history video of U.S. & Canada)

Here's a good cross border story that just came out.

After years of naysayers telling him he couldn't swim across the shipping lanes from Windsor to Detroit, a man swims from Canada to the U.S. and then back after a night of drinking, before getting picked up by police boats.

This is how you win bets with style (and I don't mean his fashion sense):

The police, the port authority and his mom are all really mad at him, but John Morillo takes comfort in the fact that he now has bragging rights.

Morillo sparked an international rescue operation late Monday when he loaded up on about eight beers then jumped in the river and swam to Detroit, just to prove he could do it.

“If I’m going to be in the paper, I’d at least like them to say I actually made it, even though I got in trouble and everything,” Morillo, 47, said Tuesday. “I gotta pay fines and stuff. But I don’t want it to sound like I didn’t make it, because then my buddies are going to say ‘ha, ha, you didn’t make it.’ Because that was the whole thing, to show them I could do it.”

Authorities are also stressing that swimming in the Detroit River is “extremely dangerous” because of the strong undertow in the shipping channel. It’s also prohibited under Port Authority Operating Regulations. Harbour Master Peter Berry with the Windsor Port Authority couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday.

“The harbour master was extremely mad at me,” said Morillo. “I don’t know, maybe they pulled him out of bed or something.”

Morillo said he’s also been barred from any city property on the waterfront. Besides that, he had his irate mother to deal with.

“She just hung up on me,” said Morillo. “She said ‘you’re just so stupid.’”

Good for a laugh, though I fear the poor Moose likely had a heart attack. Old cow must have been trippin!

Oh Canada.

I'm well familiar with Canadians, especially from B.C. Out in the country they are some very laid back and chill people, very nice, and similar in culture to the rest of the pac. NW

Never had any problems with Canadians being anti-american, myself. But then again, I've never met anyone who was anti-american per se. Only time I've heard anti-american statements in BC it was always from ex-pat americans, ironically. A lot of burnt out hippies and ex-californians in BC, from what I understand a lot of men tried fleeing there to avoid Vietnam as well. When I tell a Canadian I'm from the US I get some good natured teasing, then I say from Alaska and a lot will say "thats different" or "that doesn't count".

Broke down in the mountains of BC once and I was pissed off that so many drove past me with Alaska plates, not stopping. Me with a big ole Alaskan shirt on thought some state pride would help me out. But it was a BC highway maintenance guy who helped me out and I ended up staying the night in some tiny hunting/fishing town full of nice people.

I know that we are friends now, but we totally got you back for the war of 1812 in the San Juan pig war with no casualties on the American side. That makes us even.

Long story short- we shot your British pig.

Canadians aren't anti-American. For the most part it's liberal Canadians who are anti American conservatism. They fear Canada will become more like America, they earn for nordic European emulation instead.

BC is a different world altogether too. Recently Vancouver's city council approved a bill regulating marijuana dispensaries, flying the in the face of federal regulations. The health minister sent letters reminding BC that pot is still illegal, ministers told them the federal government is out of touch. The police chief said he won't bother them unless they sell substances other than pot.

A few years back when the Feds decided to introduce mandatory minimum sentencing, the province of BC told them to shove it and refused to build more jails or enforce the bill.

BC is a sort of Canadian wonderland, especially the small towns in the interior. And the girls are usually fit too.

found this old thread, good video but also saddening.

"operation yellow ribbon" aka canadians hosting 33,000 american travelers after US airspace was closed on sept 11 was the last 'act of canadian kindness' just like the iran hostage crisis was the last 'act of canadian military heroism'

15 years later and the core of canada (southern ontario through montreal) wants the world to know them for their SJW'ism more than anything else.

Those old style, kind and rugged canadians are hard to find anymore.

Why do the heathen rage and the people imagine a vain thing? Psalm 2:1 KJV
