Protest and Riot Game

(I think there was a similar thread on the forum, but I could not find it.)

As many of you may know, protests and riots are taking place in many cities in Brazil (NYT article Thousands gather for protests in Brazil's largest cities). Violent or peaceful, gatherings such as these can present a great opportunity to do some day gaming and, likely, instadates, regardless of the country you live in. Here's how:

If you are at a peaceful protest, you will likely be surrounded by thousands of young people who are friendly and helpful. When you spot a cute protester, start with something light, as you would day gaming:
- Ask where the march is going/what is going to happen next -- some of the protests are huge, and if they're walks not knowing where they're going is very plausible
- Ask them if you can take a picture of them with their sign for you blog (if you are a gringo, you can ask them what does the sign say)
- Use the best opener of all time, "Do you have a light?" (Thank you, G) -- as pointed out, many of the protesters are young students, and many smoke
- Ask information about someting regarding the protest/riot that you saw on twitter. Ex: "I just saw on twitter that the riot squad is arresting people in Av. Paulista. Do you know if it's true?"
- Talk about the causes being attacked or defended
- Bring stuff: face paint, pens, cardboard signs, vinegar (against tear gas), water, etc, and offer them to people.
- Ask about the lyrics to the songs being sung ("What did they just say? 'Brasil, vamos acordar, o professor vale mais do que o Neymar?'")

These events very often last for many hours and continue through the night, which can be a good way to make a venue change. It can be by asking where you can find a place to eat, if they want to have a beer in a boteco nearby.

In addition, in big cities these protests sometimes jam traffic and fuck up the public transportation and sometimes make the streets a dangerous place. If you have good logistics, you ask girls back to your place no problem.

Yesterday, for example, I went to the protest that ended on Av. Paulista. Called a girl who I am seeing and went to her place, which was like 6 blocks away, as I wanted to kill some time because the subway was crowded. During my wait, the train line I take stopped working because of vandal attacks and on the streets below the riot squad blew tear gas bombs and arrested people. So I ended up staying there the night, as I couldn't go home.

Since there's a romantic, idealized notion of change, society and friendship at these places, the invitation can be made in a very altruistic way and can work smoothly. That's also the reason why the bitch shields are so low and you can talk to almost anyone.

Watch out for a few things:
- Pay attention to the large group and follow them. If you get left out or stay somewhere after the group is gone, there's a chance you'll be in trouble, either because of the police or because of vandals
- Stay away from the frontline. The first people on the march are there to lead the movement, take the rubber bullets, get their pictures taken. There's no cute girls there either.
- Don't stick around too long. Sometimes the police comes, other times people start to get drunk and violent. GTFO if you feel anything is wrong.

Heres a pretty famous picture from a Vancouver riot a few years back.

not the best atmosphere for that pbby... but who knows, sometimes even the police can get lucky. This one was taken in Lisbon last year.

Hahaha, I love this thread. This is some ultimate frame control right here.

I bet it would actually work pretty good. Most people in a protest/riot are just sheeps being led along by a few troublemakers. Broads would already be in a following state, so you just have to make yourself their leader.
