This girl speaks English far to perfectly to be just an average Brazilian, that and the fact that she's white, blonde and pretty, therefore most likely more well off than the average, makes me think she's a spoiled rich kid who studied abroad and is going through her "let's save the world" phase. Not that everything she said is not true though.

Yea, I agree. I meet ex-pats from various countries in DC that are like this. I have to remind myself that they probably come from really well-off families. Not all, but most.

You really have to go to the country and talk with the people to get the real picture.

Yup, lip service until she hook some well connected compatriot and move into her Rio beach condo while helicoptering crosstown.

Coming from a guy who speaks Portuguese and has visited Brazil twice, you gotta give home girl credit for making the necessary sacrifices to learn English, which I think is a tough language with many irregularities & tough conjugations in a country where NOBODY seems to speak it. I read her website as she probably had to overcome some obstacles to graduate from college while going the cheaper CC route at first & learning the lingo to get accustomed to life in the US.

Still though, her entitled Americanized mannerisms get on my nerves as I'd probably hate her guts if I ever met Carla Dauden...lol. Therefore...eff that chick.

Picked a good time to go, will be there in two weeks. Will post a data sheet on Brazilian protest game when I get back.

Where will you be?

I'll be spending some time in both Rio and Sao Paulo, as well as some other less traveled areas.

You can really see the faint signs of Americanization of Brazilian girls you guys have been talking about (see her "wait, what?" snark @1:19).
That whole video. I think foreign girls trying to be "witty" and do the whole American thing is even worse than our American girls doing it [Image: shudder.gif]

These charts show why Brazil may be in big economic trouble in coming years:

I've been in contact with a couple of my pipelined girls tonight and both said it's nothing I should be worried about. One was showing me pictures of the protest(she went) and said its mostly a proud and prideful protest, with the occasional oddball taking too far by throwing rocks or trying to start a fire.

Nonetheless, it's concerning and I'll have to monitor this very closely.

Looks like it's rapidly getting real. Supposedly 1 million folks protesting on the streets of Rio. My friend in Centro said there's tear gas outside of his apt and that he can't even see across the street.

Hope it settles down by the time you make it out there.

Business Insider blames this on the global currency war.

There's a reason people overseas hate the US.

Huge Protests in Brazil

These past couple of years have been plentiful with protests. We've had them all over the middle east, several countries in Europe, Turkey and now Brazil.

Interesting times.

Thanks Man!! I'm back!

Things got very huge here this last days. President Dilma gave a speech in national TV last night, and the largest movement who was calling for the protests (MPL) announced that they will no longer call for other protests in the short term.

at this moment i feel that the momentum is really up for grabs, things could go either to the left (a left wing group gaining support) or to the right ( MPL actually stated that one of the reasons for their withdrawal from the street protests was that they accused far right wing militants and groups that support the return of the military rule to be "capturing" the momentum and trying to drive the popular movement to their agendas).

Or it can led to nothing and everything stays the same.
