Renting an appartment in the US as EU resident

How would I go on about renting an apartment in the states? I read that most of them require a credit score...

Rent from private owners, not corporations like forrent.com. What I have done when renting my condos on Miami beach to foreigners is to ask for first, last and security deposit to move in (3 months in advance rent). This gives me a secure feeling that you will not bail-out on rent, and should you leave before lease is up, I have your security deposit, and you last month to cover my expenses.

Now, if you are only a tourist on a 6 month tourist Visa, I make sure that my lease is only good for 6 months, and my monthly rent is more expensive than a 12 month lease.

Most landlords of private condos will accept these terms.

Oh, I see. Thanks. But the problem is that I can only stay for a maximum of 3 months on the Visa Waiver Program. So I have to rent an apartment for 3 months and if I'm right I can only enter the Country again after 3 months, so like 6 months maximum a year....

craigslist.com under sublet / temporary category. You should not need a credit report or anything. And you can always simply pay the entire lease up front anyways (assuming you have that kind of cash on hand). So then a credit score becomes irrelevant.

All you have to do is leave the country for 24hrs is my understanding, then you can return, and upon entry into the USA, you will be granted an additional 90 days. So, you can venture into Canada or Mexico for a weekend and return.

You are allowed 180 total days per year on the VWP, but you must leave after 90 days for 24-48hrs, and then get another 90 days.

Double check with the US state dept to ensure accuracy on this however.

That's how it used to go 10 years ago, not anymore.

Given your circumstances, you probably won't be able to legitimately "rent" an apartment. You'll have to sublease for someone or rent a room. What city will you living in? You might try renting out a student's room while they're on a semester abroad. You can get good deals doing that.
