The No-Shampoo Challenge

The No-Shampoo Challenge

I want to try this.

Would you guys recommend this for someone with long hair? Mine is pretty long at the moment; it reaches the bottom of my neck and curls upward when I slick it back.

My hair is also pretty oily naturally. From what I've gathered reading this thread the best products for me would be baking soda and probably coconut oil (should I get a tub of this from whole foods/trader joe's?).

I've been sprinkling a decent amount of baking soda into my long hair before entering the shower over the past few days, but my hair still feels oily. Is it supposed to feel this way? Am I overreacting?

Any help appreciated.

The No-Shampoo Challenge

Nobody is asking but it has been 3 years since I started, I dipped out of the forum for a long time but I'm still No-Poo.

Currently, I'm using baking soda and apple cider vinegar once a week.
Anytime I'm going out I usually use Coconut oil to fashion my hair into whatever I want. At the moment I'm trying for the long on top, slicked back look.

Any questions that anyone actually wants to know ? [Image: biggrin.gif]

I do this already and like Cernovich has said in his periscopes shampoo is a giant scam.

I do want to point out that there's a difference between dandruff and dry scalp. Do not use dandruff shampoo if you have dry scalp. I personally like using coconut oil since I have dry scalp. I really need to get better with my water intake haha.

I'm a fuckin' believer. Been going no-shampoo for about 3-4 months and my hair has never looked better. Like others have said in the thread you can style your hair without the need for gel. Personally, I think no-shampoo supplemented with baking soda every once in a while is the way to go. I might look into these scalp brushes, there might be something there.

As for dandruff, I never had a problem when it was warmer but once it started getting colder my scalp got drier and dandruff came. This was after about 3 months without shampoo so I don't think it's in response to chemicals in shampoo. I think I just have a naturally dry scalp. I just used regular ol' head and shoulders one time about a week ago and the dandruff is pretty much gone. I wonder how long that will last.

"This works" +1

4 weeks after trying this I went for a cut and asked my hair chick (seeing her for years) how my hair looked and felt.

Hair chick: "It looks great! What product are you using?"

Me: "Water"

Chick: [Confused]

Me: [Explain]

Chick: "EWWW!!!" [takes me immediately to sink and washes my hair]

Me: [Pepe smirk]

Still not shampooing, still loving it. New hair chick, though.

I tried the challenge and then gave up. My skin and hair are extremely oily and so the oil from my scalp came down to my face. Believe it or not this resulted in my looks changing for the worse.

But I really want to do away with shampoo. I've been using H&S for years and my hair is not in a good shape.

"Believe it or not" haha...

Thanks for sharing, dude. It's good to remember that what works for me might not work for everyone. Take care of yourself.

It's been about a month I've been trying this again. Now with short hair oiliness is less of a problem however I now see that the parts of my hair that have been getting thin, are getting more thin. Dandruff is also coming back to some of those areas (mostly in front). Maybe I should wash it with baking soda.

I've been doing this for a week. My hair is smooth as a well shaved pussy, and not one bit oily. This is surprising because my hair would get oily as hell if I would go one day without washing it, so yep...I'm blaming the shampoo. Combing is super easy now too, so that's another plus.
I will report back when I hit the 1 month mark.

Got to reverse my previous thoughts on this. Did it for 2 years and was noticing my hair was flat and lifeless. Switched back to shampoo and now much more volume, smoother, getting way more looks and compliments from girls. It's pretty night and day.

PM me for accommodation options in Bangkok.

I haven't use shampoo in any regular fashion for years. The only reason I will ever use it is if my hair is genuinely dirty, as in there is dirt/mud/etc in my hair from whatever and my hair and scalp needs to be washed with soap.

It's great. My hair looks good is never super dry and is always soft. TeamNoShampoo

I forgot about this entirely. Almost two months since the last time I used shampoo on my hair. It is better than ever, shit, I think I might even regaining some hair that I lost!

I've been mostly team no-shampoo for a couple of years now, the only issue being occasional dandruff emanating from mainly the back of my head. What works for me is twice a week, working a tiny bit of Head and Shoulders into just that localized area with my fingernails and then quickly rinsing it out to minimize my exposure to sodium laureth sulfate and other chemicals. Just enough to keep the issue under control.

Aside from that, I wash my hair daily and use a comb while under the shower head and really get into my scalp to help slough off any dead skin, and then rinse with cold water. Overall seems to keep dandruff to a minimum.
