I don't think having a college degree means anything and I don't mean to disrespect anyone who has one or wants to obtain one. Grade inflation is on the rise and college is a business, so graduating students is in the college's best interest. Some online schools, which are part of a legit college are fine (I am guessing) but not the fly by night online schools. Also, because most student loans are backed by the government it is easy money to bring a moron into college. Why wouldn't a school accept them? And having a degree doesn't make you a better or smarter person than someone who does not have a degree. I have met enough people without degrees to confirm that.
Not to start on my rant again about dumb young people - but many struggle to form complete sentences without slang. And everyone thinks they are at least above average and lame parents who can't tell kids they are dumb or ugly just makes it worse. You can't even discipline kids in schools these days, really think we are turning out intelligent people when the prisoners run the prison?
Here is an article saying that 2M college students are taking remedial classes to learn things they should have learned in highschool. Keep in mind when people fall behind early it is a lot harder to catch up. So if there are 2M 18/19 year olds that are lacking the right skills, rather than learning more important things - they are learning things they should have learned in HS for 20K - 50K a year tuition/housing/etc.

More than 2 million U.S. college students this fall will be spending a good bit of their time reviewing what they were supposed to learn in high school or even earlier. They are taking “remedial” education courses.

Here is an article on grade inflation from the NY Times.

Imagine the impact of getting an A when you really didn't deserve one or if students successfully argue for better grades than they deserve. Definitely creates fucked up entitled people.
I pasted a bit below.
What accounts for the higher G.P.A.’s over the last few decades?
The authors don’t attribute steep grade inflation to higher-quality or harder-working students. In fact, one recent study found that students spend significantly less time studying today than they did in the past.
They then attribute the rapid rise in grade inflation in the last couple of decades to a more “consumer-based approach” to education, which they say “has created both external and internal incentives for the faculty to grade more generously.” More generous grading can produce better instructor reviews, for example, and can help students be more competitive candidates for graduate schools and the job market.
The authors argue that grading standards may become even looser in the coming years, making it increasingly more difficult for graduate schools and employers to distinguish between excellent, good and mediocre students.

Here is an article of a college student SUING a college for a poor grade.

Megan Thode isn't the first Lehigh University student who was unhappy with the grade she received in a course. But she may be the first to sue to get it changed.
The C+ that Thode was given scuttled her dream of becoming a licensed professional counselor and was part of an effort to force her out of the graduate degree program she was pursuing, said her lawyer, Richard J. Orloski, whose lawsuit seeks $1.3 million in damages.
